So, for those curious, the reason that the school is abandoned is due to a funding issue. So, back in the 60's, the school closed when construction of I95 and then later I10 caused it to become isolated. In that it was difficult for busses and students to get to. The building was used as storage by the school district until 1980, when a developer purchased it intending to convert it into a senior living home. However funding fell through on that when the federal government decided to end the program which the developer was intending to use to pay for the renovations. In the 90's, another developer purchased it after a fire in 95 had caused the auditorium to collapse. That developer wanted to turn it into condos. but in 2000 it got marked as a historic site. A new company bought it in 2011, paying for unpaid taxes to the city, though to date there's no word on what their intentions are with the property. One thing worth noting, all the stories about kids dying in the place, or things like boiler explosions killing students... aren't true. The school had originally opened around 1920, when it was the fourth school to open in Jacksonville, and it was out of use by 1960'. Though some records suggest the even as early as 1950, when it was renamed to the Annie Lytle building, most of the building was already empty, with student numbers being under 40 for the entire school.

I used to hear that Jacksonville was worse than Miami. So, I was surprised to find out that Jacksonville has a crime rate of C, while in your Liberty City Miami vlog, Miami received an F. Additionally, Jacksonville's median household income is $73K, which is really good. Thanks for sharing

Sounds like you are the person for the job! Start by gathering like-minded people who share your vision for the city. Get involved with city hall meetings and actively participate. Run for a city council seat. Organize a program, reach out to business owners and entrepreneurs, and work on acquiring those apartments and abandoned homes. It can be done, but it will take a dedicated team of people who see's your vision.

Who ever running Jacksonville needs to due better with poverty and helping the homeless and all these condemned apartments on the northside needs to be torn down and rebuilt again so these people with kids can have affordable places to live can't everybody afford high rise apartments man

I agree with you completely. It seems that communities only get attention when gentrification starts. It's no wonder the crime rate is high when people are left without opportunities. What are the poor supposed to do if they can't find work-just sit around and starve? That city government needs to do better.
