The Unrest Cure same!! I was just thinking that while watching/listening. This singular moment in music turned me on to alternative rock in the late 8o’s. Changed my life.
I went through my loft a couple of years ago and found my old singles. This was with them. I played it to my kids on my daughter's record player and they didn't have a clue. Looked at me like I was mad
Just heard this on a Netflix tv show, "One Day" and realized I knew this song. That was a flashback of the best kind. Hopefully a new generation will hear and appreciate this song. Listening in 2024.
Me too but on Netflix and when I used Alexa to locate the name it kept referring to Modern English lol. Were 80s songs that similar??? lol Shazaam nailed.
Prince loved the Cocteau Twins. He said although he couldn't understand a word Elizabeth Frasier was singing, the the music as a whole put him in a hypnotic, dreamlike state.
@@peteywheatstraws4909 you were able to mention Prince, Cocteau Twins, Ravi and Shakti all in one post, impeccable taste in music! Kudos to you! Love me some ethereal music too, regardless of the genre
@@777pusher do yourself a MASSIVE favour, go out and get their last 3 albums, maybe don't listen to them all at once though ( a few weeks apart should do it). They have a similar sort of sound, but never before have i forgiven a band for making such similar albums one after the other ! In order of release they are : Heaven or Las vagas Four-calendar cafe Milk and kisses You will thank me for it, they made the beautiful of all modern music. Rob, western australia.
I recently lost my beautiful wife karen to cancer this stunning song and the voice of an angel just reminds me the love and the beauty of karen I am sobbing xxxxx
I’m so sorry, I lost my husband at only 48 just over a year ago to cancer, he loved these and her voice so much. I just heard this on a tv show and it brought a flood of memories and emotion. Thoughts are with you!
Sorry for your loss. I went through exactly the same 12 years ago. You will survive but there will be many more tears as with me.Hang on to those memories. Stay strong.
Does anyone else feel more confidence in themselves after listening to this? I have no idea what Elizabeth Fraser is singing about in this song, but her delivery is so moving. I could listen to this song on a daily basis and never grow tired of it. It's that timeless and beautiful!
+Devin Grant Here are the lyrics: I'm seemin' to be a little alive I'm happy again, caught, caught in time Expose the daughter of yourself well Me, I think that you're in her heart You're the match of Jerico That will burn this whole madhouse down And I'll throw open like the wall not safe More like a love that's a bottle of exquisite stuff, yes You, yourself, and your father Don't know, so part in your own ways You're really both bone setters Thank you for mending me babies You're the match of Jerico That will burn this whole madhouse down And I'll throw open like a wall not safe You will seem more like being that same bottle of exquisite stuff Yes, you are the match of Jerico That will burn this whole madhouse down And I'll throw open like the wall not safe You, yourself, and your father don't know So part in your own ways You're really both bone setters Thank you for mending me babies
+DanieL Plainsong Just remember those are not the actual lyrics; they were never published. That's one person's transcription of what they hear. Some of it sounds right, but some is clearly wrong. Like "part" should be "but." And "wall not" is more likely "walnut" believe it or not.
It's never too late! Cocteau Twins are timeless. You have lots of adventure in front of you! Trying to understand lyrics when sometimes they aren't even real words. The band is fun to listen to while driving or cleaning or zoning or making love or sleeping!!! I am so happy for you !
Oh you are about to fall down a deep and beautiful rabbit hole. In the northern hemisphere, we’re heading into peak Blue Bell Knoll season. Victorialand time happens right after the holidays. But seriously, any season works for any of their music.
They have been my fav for 35yrs. They are the very first search I did on the world wide web in 1997 lol. 2024 still my fav. You will be pleasantly surprised at how unique they are. Lorelie was a popular one they’d play at alternative dance clubs. The whole Heaven or Las Vegas album is good
You can tell the education level by What lyrics people make up in their head you got one person here talking about Macho Cherry Coke and the other one talking about the walls of Jericho 🤔😂🤣
I knew this album in 1992 from my roomate at the time and It took me some years to really appreciate how good Heaven or Las Vegas was. I was mostly a metal head at the time.
They started very dark and gothic in 1982 (Garlands / Head Over Heels) , transitioned in 1984 (Treasure - has both dark and dreamy - see "Pandora" ., then became ambient and dreamy (Victorialand / The Moon and the Melodies) - then found their identity with the last four albums I think (Blue Bell Knoll / Heaven or Las Vegas / Four Calendar Cafe / Milk and Kisses). It's almost like they started with severely dark music to severley light and dreamy music, to a balance at the end before they called it quits. My favorite albums are Treasure and Milk and Kisses. Also look up the singles. There are a lot! (Spangle Maker, Pearly Dew Drops, An Elan, Dials, Love's Easy Tears, etc.) Yes their music and instrumentation is exceptional and moving.
Just a little Twins trivia: they were originally going to call this song "Exquizitstuhfaze" after one of the lyrics in the song but they agreed that it didn't make any sense and wasn't made up of real words so they changed the title to "Ice Blink Luck" which they agreed didn't make any sense but was made up of real words. Then they did some massive bong hits
I was 15 when i bought this album and it was the most amazing thing i'd ever heard. Now 32 years later, i still get the same feelings listening to it as i did when i was 15. Their music is just timeless.
@@cl8804 America isn't a racist country. Your ignornace is just astounding😂. All races and nations have their share of bad history, but it in no way defines us as a nation...not then or now...unless u mean the Democrats who love identity politics (they are the racists). And you know u understand what he means too is what's so cringey. It's obvious that musical taste isn't directly influenced by ur ethnicity but to deny that most black people don't listen to music like this (because oof cultural influences) is just obnoxiously self righteous. The lengths u must go through to prove to urself and everyone around you of how woke u are 😂😂😂 i can't even begin to imagine. Also, what sense does it make to point out racism when the guy himself is black?
Completely unique voice and vocal style, it's like speaking in tongues. Her first child had been born shortly before they recorded the album (the father being the guitar player, Robin Guthrie) and the sense of motherly bliss is all over this beautiful song and video, even in her posture I think... :)
This is my go-to song whenever I feel like I need a boost. This song gives you that warm hug and the reassurance that things will get better. Mentally I am here.
Got a wonderful reminder of this outstanding music watching One Day on Netflix. Elizabeth Frazer cuts through the Cocktoe Twins wall of sound. Genius 😘
It was a ritual for me an my gf to listen to CT every year driving to Newquay for our jollies. Only seen them live once at Wolves Civic. So glad I did. They were bostin!
This song feels simultaneously like the absolute essence of the feeling of true love, and the realisation that we are all temporary, mortal beings, and that we all, one day, return to the Earth. It is beautiful.
I remember listening to this song back in the 90s and then forgot about it. About a year ago I heard it in the pub and re-fell in love with it - maybe even more so than the first time. I spent the next year with the song in my head but I just could not rememeber the artist or title. I spent ages trying google what I could make out of the lyrics (mostly cherry cola) but drew a blank. Then today it pinged up on my apple music station! Result!!! Listened about 10 times. Cocteau Twins - wow - just had no idea it was them. Lovely song.
I listened to a lot of music in the 80s and 90s, but somehow missed the Cocteau Twins. But so glad I have discovered them in 2023 - their music is just beautiful.

I listen to this and i feel so lucky. Lucky to experience such music. Lucky that I discovered them in 1989 when I was 15. Lucky to have seen them perform live on 3 occasions. Lucky despite all of the misery in this world. Lucky to know that someone like Liz exists... Thank you...
If there are beautiful singing angels in heaven than they will look and sound like Elizabeth. She is my all time favorite musician. A truly God gifted woman!
Ms Elizabeth Fraser is singing in tongues and we couldn't be happier. More power to her singular, gorgeous language and command of 3 minutes of fabulous pop.,
have to be sober from all psychedelics bc of my meds. if i ever one day decide to go off them, i will listen to coceatu twins on dxm. at least 1 more time before i die i have to feel the music engulf and become part of me, as i float out of my body and mix with the music. shits rad but boy does it do a number on ur brain.
i've been listening to the cocteau twins since the 80s. Never will I tire of their music and Liz's extraordinary voice and sounds. The mystery of her sounds lasts forever. A truly unique musical experience are the Cocteaus...
I once read an academic essay on the Cocteau Twins that argued, convincingly, that their music is all about being born and giving birth. There is something primal about the emotions here.
Well at least that's nicer than the other two commonplace theories. (A) that Cocteau Twins music is predominantly "about" omens of death and especially of the extinction of the human race. Or, and for various reasons this makes a lot of sense to me, (B) that the Cocteau Twins music is predominantly "about" post-traumatic stress disorder, self-loathing, and fear of (the consequences of) direct communication.
Carl Horowitz Considering that a lot of this album was written and recorded right around when Elizabeth and Robin had their child, I think your theory is pretty correct.
The lyrics on all these songs are total mumbo jumbo so I doubt that. What draws everyone is the power of her ability to sing combined with the harmony of the music. Sometimes she doesn't even use words but makes sounds that seem to be words. Again, that's not to infer any kind of meaning but more a creative expression of emotion.
Yes Yes!!!! Somehow the voice and the music create a sonic euphoria that I’m not sure one could create without the other! They are Sooooooo made for some sort of reunion tour, are they not?
Never heard the band before today, but it makes me feel like a child again for some reason. Just so bright and her face is so caring looking all their music makes me feel cared for I have no idea why. And from looking at the comments from their other videos other seem to get an inexplicable feeling from their music too… what is it???
The same comment over all cocteau twins tracks on youtube … i cross my fingers for the right person to read this one day … Cocteau twins is a reminder of the best years of my life … in london many many years ago … my first day as a salesman in a shop in london on camden high street … i'm french … she's from sweden … i can barely speak english … she's amazingly beautiful … i pop in the shop to start my shift and this music is playing … then i feel shivers all over my body blushing red facing her amazing beauty and thought : "what on earth is this music !!!" … since then but even more after i left london i can't sleep without some cocteau twins … her name is merrethe she was, she is & will be a friend for ever !!! I miss you Merrethe my dear friend …
I think Elizabeth is so unique in the way that not only is it amazing to listen to her sing, but also to watch her sing. She has a beautiful voice but her instrument is so much more than just the sounds coming from her vocal chords. It's her, her facial expressions, the way she moves her mouth. It all seems to just flow out of her so naturally. To me this is artistry in its purest form.
I love this Scottish band. When Elizebeth sings, my soul and time stops just to wait for her to keep the time in her heavenly voice. I love Cocteau Twins. They have been with me since the 1990s.
Always thought there was a deeper meaning in the lyrics and the music. And the the aural flavor... at 1:19 ;"you yourself are your father...sooo, going your own way"...Ambiguity of the lyrics and the angelic voice of Liz Fraser is ambrosia.
One of my favorite bands from the 80's & on. Elizabeth has such an ethereal voice that goes well with her dialect language. Loved their concerts, too. 3:)
I love the aesthetics of the video and the effort by the members. I usually prefer listening to audio tracks before moving to video but, as always, I'm enchanted by Lizzy's angelic presence and her breathtaking voice. Long live CT!
