While in Reykjavík, for Iceland Airwaves, Mark Wheat spoke with Simon Raymonde, head of record label Bella Union, formerly of the Cocteau Twins. Raymonde and Wheat talked about the early era of the Cocteaus, the founding of Bella Union records and the label's strong ties to Iceland via artists like John Grant and Mammut. They also discussed Raymonde's new act, Lost Horizons.

He acts exactly how I would expect, eloquently, gentlemanly, and intelligent. Thank you for the music…

The ending of the cocteau twins was the saddest ending of the most Briliant music ever. Its a shame they couldnt keep it together or start touring again when all the issues are way in the past.

Simon is such a lovely guy. So down to earth and genuine. .......Gus Gus ....what a band...... It's indicative of the type of guy he must be to have a record label for 23 years.....amazing

Elizabeth Fraser was Lovely, in all of her sounds. A beloved friend of mine from Newcastle, knew Elizabeth and I was blessed to meet her when she played at The Stone in San Francisco.

Far North Weaver you are so lucky! How did that go? I think I would have caught a terrible case of stage fright if I met Liz in person. She’s like a Goddess to those that know.

I met her and froze up a bit which is unlike me. Meanwhile, I spoke with both Simon and Robin without any issues. Go figure.

would love to speak for all of America, but I can only for myself but we'd love to have Lost Horizons play here. Perhaps at SXSW in spring it will work out for all. I'll be first in line.

1982 - 1996 is early 80's? Simon Raymonde joined the band in 1984, has nothing to do with the referenced early 80's period, he actually brought the Yamaha DX7 sound to the band of which Robin said somewhat negatively referring to the 1984 LP that it was the most easily recognizable Cocteaus LP because DX7 was ubiquitous.

I certainly did not buy the dx7! Lots of sounds dated the band, and robin was not being critical of me when he said that! He was making the point that some sounds like the drum sounds on treasure for example do date the albums and we were always aiming for a more timeless sound. I played the piano a lot but don’t even think I used the dx7 more than on one song! But glad you enjoy the pre-simon releases! They’re great too

@@simonraymonde3416 Hello Simon, my reply to your comment has disappeared probably because of the two posted links or uploader's policy, anyway, in my original comment I was referring to 2 articles, Robin was quoted as saying "and the album sounded, “half-finished, and so 1984, what with the drums and the DX7 [synth], instead of sounding timeless.” The other source, when referring to Donimo: "and asked them about Donimo, the last on the album: Robin: "There's even little bits of synthesiser on that..." Simon: "Emulator..." Robin: "No, there's synth as well; DX7." What I can hear in addition to that on Treasure (I may be wrong) is a DX7 on at least Ivo and Lorelei. I was thinking DX7 was used on Head Over H. as well, on Tinderbox of a heart, but there is no info on that available. (unfortunately I can't post the links again)

@@krasteff not possible that a dx7 was used on head over heels as it wasn’t even available in uk till Nov 83 and that lp was released oct 83 so recorded well before that time
