I didn't discover CT until HOLV came out but since then it's been 30 years of delightful obsession.

Simon never got the props he truly deserved for CT. Liz understandably captivates and commandeers the proverbial spotlight...but his basslines were brilliant and TOTALLY critical to the overall aesthetic that CT created.

Ken Rubenstein for sure he’s one of the few bassist who isn’t afraid to play chords which I thing really rounds out CT’s songs. It’s kind of easy to mistake it as guitars but if u listen closely there’s a lot of songs where he’s playing chords and I really thing it adds to it. Spooning Good Singing Gum in particular has a really good rhythm section

Always such a nice guy, no rancor. I wasn't aware of the Cocteaus in the 80s, I'd heard of them but never listened. Boy howdy, did I ever miss out! Would've been so cool to be tuned into them during their most creative years. Still, they've had an enormous positive effect on me, such beautiful music! OMG!

"The key for me getting into music and being here today was punk rock." ❤ For you and for a lot of us too, Simon ❤

I miss the Cocteaus so much. They were my teen years and played a massive part of my life. So sad liz wont do anything else.

I saw her in 2012 in Bath, it was so emotional to see her again.

@@paulanderton9424 I was at the Bath pavilion too and it was very special, I also saw her later at the Southbank centre but the intimacy wasn't really there, don't be too sure she won't do more Paul, life waxes and wanes....

No need to "miss" them - there they are on their records. Playing every time you press play. It's their legend now that lives on. They moved on and left a great legacy behind them. Liz is doing just fine and there are some amazing bits of music she did and does post-Cocteau. The same goes for Simon and Robin. Let Cocteau Twins rest in their beautiful noise.

What a legend, but I was only thinking that for me at least, when they released Treasure in 1984, it was so pop that living in a former communist country and listening regularly to John Peel on BBC WS I actually didn't tape any track because the sound of Head Over Heels was gone, the band was totally different and Yamaha DX7's defaults were the main feature...

@dread true 'Treasure' is a masterpiece. Wholly unique. Streets ahead of goth music.

Cocteau Twins never actually used a DX7 (except as This Mortal Coil), and most if not all things on their 4AD catalogue that sounds like a synth is in fact a guitar. Treasure sounds nothing like a DX7... in fact Treasure sounds likes nothing else before or after! Truly unique... as was pretty much everything else they put out.

@@ssmith954 Yes they did. I can give you many links, here is but one: "Treasure followed, which many fans cite as their finest album, though not Guthrie, who felt the new trio were still finding their way, and the album sounded, “half-finished, and so 1984, what with the drums and the DX7 [synth], instead of sounding timeless.” thevinylfactory.com/features/an-introduction-to-cocteau-twins-in-10-records/.

@@krasteff The drums really ruined most of it for me, as they decided to go with the John Bohnam drum samples, and I can't not hear "When the Levee Breaks" in the kick drum almost every song. It isn't a great album, it isn't a terrible album, but if they had made and album out of the 4 EPs from 1985-1987, that would have been a great album. Tiny, Echoes, Aikea, and Love's. That's a great album all mushed together. Allows you to skip Victorialand for most occasions. You could add in the 4 tracks with vox from the Moon and the Melodies, plus Crushed, and have 2 albums, 21 songs. Then it would point straight into Blue Bell Knoll.
