It's just a huge shift from what they have been. Whenever a band mixes it up people will hate. Personally.... as a dude in his late 30s I'm liking the fact when bands "change their sound" nu metal is making a comeback. I never want to shit on a band for pushing themselves and their creativity, I love everything Code has done up to this point, and I get that they've probably picked up a much larger (and different) fan base with Underneath and touring with Slipknot and shit, but I hope the new album will have some more of their hardcore roots than this single has. It's not bad at all, but it's definitely more commercialized, which in a way is sort of the opposite energy of the tight knit hardcore scene that we love.
@VastChoirs
@VastChoirs 2 года назад
This is a nice way of saying that they used to produce some really awesome and unique original hardcore and now make generic nu-metal for idiots. I don't blame them, however. Everyone's gotta put food on that table and this is infinitely preferrable to them just breaking up. It's not for me but I dont hate the band for changing their style to something more predictable/mainstream. I'll probably even still buy the album just to support the band for all the great music they produced from 2009-2017.

It's so strange because I JUST the "hate5six" live show with these guys and the singer was on drums and after the first song or two, he literally started talking about giving props to those hardcore bands that has NOT given in to new "trends" in the scene, which got a huge reaction from the crowd. They sounded great and it was believable. . . . . Then i decided, "ok let me hear what their studio non live tracks sound like.........and I clicked on this video. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!?!?! I swear I thought i had the wrong band. They took him out of the drums into the spotlight, forced the girl to dress sexy and get dolled up and they sound like the a typical processed out of a factory commercial pop metal. How in the flying fuck did this happen??? I understand that the music business is hard to succeed in, but holy shit was this an unfortunate change that seems terribly insincere.
@mimidreamy6726

So they apparently forced "the girl" (you mean Rebah btw) Keep talking like you know shit about anything man, if a band changing sound makes you insecure and upset then that's a you problem. Literally who gives a fuck, there are bigger problems in this world right now.

I just recently saw them in Akron with $uicide Boy$ after not having seen them in probably ten years. One of the last times I saw them, they were still "Code Orange Kids" and they opened for a cd release show of the band I was in. They'd play with us every other weekend and had this insanely raw energy. We all knew they were going to blow up back then, but I don't think any of us thought they would end up sounding like this. It was very surreal seeing them play to thousands of people. It's cool they're "successful" because God knows they've busted their asses, and they went all-in for their music. I suppose that's what anyone playing music would like to see. It's just unfortunate that the spark that made them so powerful seems to have died out and has been replaced with played-out commercial radio tropes which they're clearly playing to pay the bills. My impression seeing them again recently: on the one hand, they're technically much better now, but the song-writing has just suffered so much. Incredibly boring to watch. Maybe it's just that I grew up in the 90s and saw so many horrible nu-metal and metal-core bands constantly, but I can't hit it off with the new stuff, especially the whole machismo cult-TOTH-school shooter thing. They still have some really sick riffs, but it's overshadowed by the post-grunge parts. The last few albums don't seem as coherent as the earlier stuff, and the whole head nod to nostalgia for 90s nu-metal is odd. It's obviously trendy right now, which is why it's amusing to hear them rally against trends, especially since they've ridden a wave. It's pretty obvious to see how absolutely hollow and absurd it is, but it's also still dumb when "true" hardcore bands say that non-sense, especially because hardcore is just one trend after another. I also find the constant ass-kissing and pandering to popular bands in interviews kind of funny: "We've always loved X, Y, Z and would love to have them take us on tour!" I guess that's the name of the game. Seeing them now, it felt like it was much more about "image" than the music: thus you have these stage outfits (oh look, Billie Eilish fucked Neo from the Matrix and had a baby, a greaser from the outsiders, Ed Norton from American History X, et al.). I just imagine some boomer record executive or manager being like "you've just GOT to have an image! Something that really sticks in people's minds! Trust me! Slipknot and NIN did!"

I think people in and around CO need to have a sit down intervention with Jamie and get him back behind the sticks. If he continues to steer this band, they are gonna miss the boat. If they want mainstream success they already have the perfect ingredients with what they were doing with Reba on Underneath. Sulfur Surrounding and Autumn and Carbine are so clear of this. They could do an album that's 50% that and 50% Forever era HxC (without Jamie straining so hard to be something he can't be) and they'll hit the big time.

@@520angling5 I definitely think it's just an experimental track from them. Their last two albums have been exploring ways to get a nu metal sound and use nu metal influences without just rapping over a metal instrumental, whether that be by using nu metal riffs or taking influence from hip hop production wise. I definitely think that's what their doing with this one, just to a bigger extent. This song isnt entirely for me but I appreciate it and respect the hell out of the courage it takes to release something like this in 2021.
