I've been taking codeine in any form for 10 years now. It all started with a car crash and I was prescribed dyhdrocodeine and that was that, hooked. I loved the high I got from the codeine but hated the feeling of not having any and felt like crap. I'm currently on day 6 cold Turkey and the only thing that is really bothering me are the headaches. Hopefully they will disappear this week. To everyone fighting this battle, we can do it, have faith in yourself.

I'm on day 4 of withdrawals, my body is still aching so bad, especially my back and hips. I've been throwing up, hot and cold shivers, sweating, insomnia but if I have dropped off for a minute,I wake up out of a delirious nightmare. Nose is blocked, it now feels like flu, yesterday was the worst, I pray to god I make it through.

I totally get when you mean. I’m a week clean now and there’s times when I’m so happy and I’m like yes I’m coming off these tablets I’m turning my life around, and then there’s times usually later in the day when I’m like I’m never going to feel happy again unless I take these tablets and my body is screaming to take them. I found it hardest mentally, the physical symptoms are shit but I can deal with them, it’s that powerful overwhelming urge I get to take them resonating in my mouth that’s hardest to deal with. Great video mate thanks for sharing

Day 2 going cold turkey for me, second time round over 6 years of heavy codine usage. Really glad I stumbled across this video as it made me take the decision to accept what I'm in for and not make the decision in the morning to go get some more after running out of prescribed dosages and all the other sources I have, which is a situation i have every two weeks in reality. There isn't many videos from the uk talking about this sort of stuff openly. So thanks for sharing your story! It does help to talk, cheers Adam....Manchester

I've withdrawn from 1000mg a day tramadol habit. Even though withdrawing from codeine wont be a severe but still be awful. Best advice I can give is have plenty of water and make sure to have plenty of showers and baths the sleep loss and restless leg can be worst part. Nows the time to stop.. Don't let the idea of withdrawals put you off stopping as I feel the symptoms can make people stay on it. Any advice I can give people let me know I will try my best to give ppl my advice.

I can't do it tried for years guys my advice is DONT ever start!. I've been using opioids for 22 years now started off with distalgesic (co proxamol) as it produced a nice intense high was on them for 7 years until they were removed off market ,then switched to co codamol, wasn't enough then tramadol then dihydrocodeine! I was put on bupronorphine in 2009 been on them till this day and even now I struggle. I still slip up now and use dihydrocodeine every now and then! Very hard to stop and as we all do find it very hard to cope with lifes struggles as I have one hell of a lot ! Everytime I've fought it I'm drastically knocked down again for example my ex wife always on my case and uses my children as a weapon because I absolutely love them and she knows where it hurts me! Plus every other thing what goes on I find it impossible to quit myself! So I know all of you who have problems with drug use dont be like me be strong! Remember your not alone

I was addicted for yrs and was taking 60 Neurofens per day. When I quit abruptly I was squirming on the floor in agony and had acute agitation like a million wasps under my skin. No sleep for almost a week which was the worst part. Week 2 was a little better with short periods of sleep. Eventually I got that morning where all the symptoms abated by about 60% with cycles of ups and downs. After I was clear the next month I was exhausted with low energy and depressed as shit and wanted to cry many times. I was craving the highs again and this is the most difficult part to resist buying them again. It was hell all the way and make no mistake...if you have been a serious addict these withdrawals are as bad as any other substance but it depends on how long you have been using and how many you have been taking. I really hope all codeine laced over the counter meds are made script only.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. We are very lucky to still have you with us my friend, I have friends that have overdosed on 20 ibuprofen tablets at once, if you survived 60 a day there must be a higher power watching over you. Love to you and your family my brother. I daren't take more than 2 nurofen + when i'm ill. I really hope you can remain as strong as you are now. I hate to say this but if you ever slip up again please look into 'Cold Water Extractions' on google. it is a way to remove paracetamol from the codeine (kind of). I really hope you never need to luck but it may one day save your life. Good luck down this lonely road, my friend x

@@lonewanderer1219 Thank you. I will never go back to that hell again I'm certain of that . It would of already happened by now If I was to relapse. I simply will never allow codeine in my system again just as I do not allow alcohol either. I don't need them and life is better without them anyways. I wanted people to know that over the counter pain meds are killers and even the best of us can become addicted without even knowing it has happened. Most of us won't touch heroine or crack because we know we will very quickly end up like the guys on the street fully addicted yet we buy pain killers which leads to the exact same place! I believe there are millions of addicted people now living a secret life as an addict simply because you can go and buy them so easily. Its a sad world.

I’m the same, 60 neurofen plus (ibuprofen and codiene mixed. You can’t cold water extract them I don’t think because of the way they bind them together, I used to do it with the paracetamol ones but the CWE was a pain in the arse and was easier to just buy a packet and drop them. I’m starting cold turkey again today and just been to the shop to buy stuff to make it easier and that’s why I’m here, looking for advice on help with withdrawals. Got sick of driving round different pharmacies all the time and somehow hiding it from my wife for all this time(over 3 years) well here it goes. I used to feel like someone is patting my back ...trying to wake me up whenever I lay myself down in bed....I started getting frequent bouts in head left leg hand, back....man what a terrible thing drugs are...I finally decided to quit ..couple of weeks back(withdrawal was hell, heartbeat raised, exessive sweat, cramps in body, no dyhrria, shivering hand n legs, I could feel the flow of blood in my veins but now after consulting a psychiatric..so far so good...I m only suffering from insomnia....I guess 8 years to drug abuse, insomnia will take time to get fixed..

Having tapered off painkillers like Tramadol and Gabapentin in the past, I would NOT recommend just stopping painkillers. I have been taking the maximum prescription dose of Cocodamol for a few weeks now and when I stop I will be tapering very slowly. I was in agony when I stopped Tramadol. Flu symptoms, insomnia, head zaps, I lost weight and looked terrible. This lasted for months and it was because I tapered too quickly. You need advice from people who know what they're doing and I would go to a doctor if in doubt.

Is it me or are the doctors prescribing this drug total arseholes? It says all over the Internet that no one should take codine (cocodamol in my case) longer than 4 to 6 weeks. It's as if they give you whatever it takes to get you out of their office then forget about you. The government needs to put strong regulatory guidelines and rules in place, stopping them from abandoning patients like this. Clearly the days of the caring family doctor are long, long gone. The medical profession is now manned by mercenaries.

Im about to do this. God help me. Been taking panadeine forte for 5 years. It started with 1 tablet 3x a day, then after 2 years went to 1 tablet every 6 hours, 3rd yr, 1 tablet every 4 hrs, and 4th yr, it went up to 1.5 tab every 8 hrs, and 5th year 1.5 tab every 4 hrs. The longer ive taken the more codeine i needed to feel the effects. Never had a side effect or health problems but the C*nts in medical centres are refusing to prescribe them to even someone with spinal injury. To survive we need to accept that the government will always want to control you, its not because they care about your health - if they did then smoking & drinking should be banned too but it makes money so they dont ban those things. In order to be free, we cannot remain addicted to anything because they can easily take that away. We must be independent. If i could grow codeine and make panadeine forte in my backyard i wouldnt be quitting. Im quitting because that day is coming when it will no longer be accessible. Im not quitting because its harmful, ive spoken to 8 doctors who verify that codeine is harmless in controlled amounts, just like chocolate and sugar. Its not the codeine thats bad for you, its the paracetamol that is toxic. Yet they have paracetamol in grocerry stores like tic tacs and easily bought by kids. Ive had more patients overdose and die from paracetamol and none of codeine (unless you have the gene that multiplies its morphine metabolic affects where a baby died from drinking breast milk of a mother who took codeine which was 0.02 % of population) Other than that Codeine is harmless, you literally have to take 300 mgs in 7 hrs to overdose. And 1 tab only contains 30mg. Its a bullsh#t world full of politics and control. Why? Because Codeine activates parts of the brain/consciousness similar to weed. Government doesnt want you to be there. Im quitting so i no longer rely on something that can be taken away. Simple as that.

im on day 2 of withdrawal, i was taking 600 mg codiene a day (ie up to 64 neurofen Plus a day, took them all at once), for about 3 years. I have only 4 vallium tablets left, they have helped, but I fear I'm in for a hell of a ride. Any info on whats in store for me? Doctors refused to help, and "drug centres" in the UK have all closed down thanks to Tory government. Any info will be appreciated.

@@tomg5187 As odd as it sounds, dont fear for my mortality. Ive had tests before and theres no damage to kidney/liver, despite years of 300% overdose levels. My Brother was the same.. On day 9 now, and everything is better, with 2 exceptions: Akathisia and Severe Insomnia. Not sure if you're familiar with Aka, but its probably the worst symptom, and it lasts a long time. And yes, staying off them, PAWS, its a concern to me. Its almost scary going ahead in life without the comfort of those pills. Thanks for the response, I dont really have anyone to talk about this stuff with. :)

@@LordWardenOfThePrivy I'm really pleased that you feel you can open up about this. Honestly I felt the exact same way as you explain, I cared little to non for my own health, i was in care/group homes/homeless aged 15-18, i took a lot of tablets, drank a LOT after that. I'm lucky to be alive, and honestly, I'm so happy i am. I found happiness, stability and security in life that i had never known before, and for the first time, death SCARES me, A LOT. I always think about dying and it worries me for the first time! You are so incredibly brave to take this first step to recovery. You still sound young, and believe me now is the time to do it! I am almost 20 now, and I gave up drinking two years ago, i could never imagine drinking again and i believe that is because i quit young and as you change so much when you are young i believe our brains section that time of our life off and henceforth we see it as "another life", and it becomes like it's not even an option to drink/take substances. This differs from adults whom are often drug/alcohol addicts all their life, and will struggle to the day they die. Please let me know if ever you would like me to reach out to you via a contact of your preferance and i would be happy to discuss this with you in greater detail, Thank you Ravanna, Please take care, One day you will find the happiness you deserve. :-) LW
