What was the original Deathwing tale?

@@k-leb4671 The Deathwing first appeared as an expansion to the original Space Hulk board game. The Deathwing were portrayed as Lakota Sioux with their own Empire Approved feral world called Plains World. This is where the Deathwing would recruit from, only the tribal Braves were allowed to try to become Terminator Marines. On a mission to gather more recruits, the Deathwing find that their planet's tribes have been mostly exterminated, with the survivors moved into a hive city. When they left the world was 1880s era technology. It turns out that a large vessel containing a Genestealer Cult crashed on the world and spread its baleful influence. The Deathwing knew the Imperial order would be to virus-bomb the planet (Exterminatus, back in the late 80s). So they performed the Ghost Dance, painted their armor white, said their prayers to their ancestors, and programmed their dropship to dust off. When the last Terminator died in battle against the Genestealers, the dropship would commence virus bombing. But the Deathwing would die avenging their people. They moved through the city killing waves of Genestealer cultists, smashing facility after facility. They were worn down from twenty, to four, when they finally killed the Broodlord that was in charge of the Cult. The rest of the Genestealers fell into confusion and the surviving tribe members and the four Terminators wiped the remainder of them out, and then burned down the hive city. As it happened, none of the surviving People of the Plains were infected (and the Terminators did scan all of them) and so realizing they had broken Imperial law, they shucked their armor, landed their dropship, and returned the People to their tribal way of living. Decades later, an Imperial survey came to the world. Finding that the Deathwing had _not_ betrayed the Empire but instead saved a valuable recruiting world *and* retained their honor, they were allowed to stay, but had to return the armor and weapons. The whole expansion was steeped in Amerindian culture and aesthetics and it was done very, very well. The reason that Deathwing armor is white (or rather, was, until it was retconned) was because Lakota Sioux warriors, when they would go in to a battle where they knew death was likely, would take the bones of their dead, burn them, then cover themselves with the ashes. The Deathwing did likewise, mixing the ashes of the People who fell with paint and applying it over the green that their armor had been. And _THAT_ is some of the coolest 40k lore, period.

@@thedungeondelver I remember that amazing history and the native drawings they used in their pale armors... no many angels that time. Original Space Hulk was plenty of good rules, details & good lore. That time i was close to made an army of Dark Angels because of that badass history.

Not being familiar with Hebrew ourselves all we could go by is what we could find online and multiple sources said it was 'Pleasant'. They could be wrong, certainly.

It uses different letters that sometime have the same sound, kind of like the A vs E letters in English. I actually did some research after reading your comment, and there is a reference to "Naa'man" (of the pleasant meaning) being the Aramaic name used for Adonis the demi-god from greek mythology. The word hasn't been used for thousands of years, but considering GW space marine naming conventions after mythic personalities, it's likely the reference, making your initial interpretation likely more correct - hats off.
