I actually think Vince would pay 5 mil to bury Cody right away. I wish I couldn't say that. But when I look at the list of top stars WWE has had less reason to bury, and they still went ahead with it, I have no faith at all. Cody is the first AEW guy to come over. What if they want to make an example of him? Yes, it would be stupid to bury him and scare off potential AEW talent. But it was also stupid to squash Bianca in 20 seconds, never use Toni Storm, and practically hand nearly every NXT Champion to AEW, but all that still happened. It's almost at the point where the more stupid something is, the more likely it is to happen in WWE soon. Crappy Rumble? Done. Crappy Big E title run? Done. Dusting off more legends since no new stars have been made? Extra done.

To me there are many factors to this and I think a major one is his wife Brandi. That segment she had with Dan Lambert a couple weeks ago killed that entire show absolutely dead. Not even Punk vs MJF was able to recover the hundreds of thousands that tuned out. I think she was given a pill that was extremely difficult for her to swallow and that is with all the trials and tribulations she is not fit to be on tv either as a wrestler or a tv character. The evidence strongly supports it. I dont think anything she was a part of creatively or on the show was a success at all. No question in my mind Kahn gave her the cold hard truth and I think her days were numbered being prominent in the promotion.

@TenaciousJ2323 2 года назад
Brandi had far too much TV time for her personal storylines considering that none of them ever got over. She only ever worked well when she was playing the concerned wife for Cody's babyface moments like when MJF had Wardlow whip him.
@heymikey6793
@heymikey6793 2 года назад
I said to myself that it probably had something to do with Brandi. I said that Khan probably didn't want to keep/pay her, or put her back on TV given all these big names they're signing, and given how bad her segment was recently. I doubt Cody is going to WWE tho. He might go back to NWA, Impact and or New Japan, maybe even ROH, but he'll never go back to WWE unless they open the "FORBIDDEN DOOR!" And give him the creative freedom he wants, which I doubt they will.. look what happened to Bray, one of the biggest creative minds there is in the business. If Cody goes to WWE, to me it's a money thing, especially because him and Brandi has a child now and they just want to get paid. I'm pissed if this isn't a work. I don't even watch WWE completely, if at all. AEW will definitely be different and it's gonna suck to me not to see Cody on Dynamite and future ppvs. #NightmareFami💪y!!!

To me, this is one of the best explanations/theories I have seen and I think you hit the nail right on the head. One point I will add to piggyback off this, is I think Tony probably did the same for Cody. What I mean is, his whole tweener super meta character was not working with fans, and I think Tony realized this and began to say enough is enough. The company has too much valuable talent and only 3 hours of TV time, they are better served utilizing other guys/girls as opposed to wasting it on Brandi and whatever Cody was trying to do with his character. He had a hell of a match with Sammy and he was a valuable piece of the company, but I don't think Cody was so valuable that you had to put up with whatever the hell was going on everytime they were on TV. I think Tony probably expressed this to them and either A) Cody and Brandi valued themselves more and bet on themselves and said were gonna leave and stick it to you OR B) Tony said, I want you but right now you're only worth $______ to me and I don't see you being worth more

Dude there is no way punk or danielson have "better" contracts then the bucks, kenny and cody had. Sure maybe there money per year number is bigger. But what they don't have is ownership steak in the company. I know Tony owns the company but what I'm saying is if this company went public tomorrow, then there were really only 4 wrestlers who were going to get a big chunk of shares.

Not buying any of this. He spent over 2 years crapping on the company(WWE) yet trying to be like someone in the company just to go back? If he does, he will be jobbing after a month. The only person who thinks Cody is a star is Cody..and Brandi and now obvious Bryan (5 million? LOL) I don't buy any of this but if he does...he's a idiot. All this speculation is ridiculous. He's NOT going back to the place where he and his family was humilliated, hurting AEW's reputation in the process. Also, is Brian even aware what they did to Sting? "No, they are not going to spend that much money into bringing a huge star to bury him". Suuure.

Cody was the king of aew in 2019 and 2020 a funny thing happened aew sign bigger star like cm punk and Daniel byran also tony Khan has taken over creative and I think Cody thought he find a money maker so he could run a wrestling company that didn't happen now he's a free agent WWE offered him lots of money to jump ship and in a year he is going to be a midcard heel like miz Owen and Zayn

Couple of thoughts... 1) Why would WWE pay top dollar? Cody left AEW...which means its WWE fighting against small players like NJPW, CZW and TNA. WWE has room to low ball this guy. Not given him a Lesnar contract that dwarfs anything AEW would ever give. It's clear Cody doesn't WANT to work for AEW so you can take advantage of that. 2) What part of Vince's history in this business makes you think and actually believe they'd tread Cody well? How many times have you said people in NXT are can't miss? How many times have you seen people re-sign with WWE get used for a few weeks then get tossed aside? How many times has Vince brought in an outsider just to treat them like trash because at the end of the day they crawled back to him? 3) I think its telling that BOTH Cody and Brandi left at the same time. If Cody wasn't having the best time there why have his wife give up a fantastic job that any woman in the industry would love to have? If she goes to WWE with him she's falling 15 rungs down the ladder in the process and its a horrendous move for their family and her career. It doesn't make sense. 4) To go along with the prior point...I'm wondering if they both left because they want to pursue something greater. Be it a new promotion or taking over at an existing promotion. Maybe even starting something outside of wrestling. Again...going from AEW to WWE is a step down unless the offer is something crazy like WWE wants Cody Rhodes to run NXT 2.0 going forward. Could happen I suppose. 5) If Cody DOES get hired by WWE as a wrestler. I think the most realistic and best option for them would be to make Cody a someone who vents and talks absolute shit about AEW in promos. The same kind of thing we see most WWE released talent who goes to the indies..or to AEW. I suggest this because Cody can bury all sorts of things even if they aren't true. His position and the unknown nature of things behind the scenes gives it credibility. He'll be a massive talking point and centre of attention for every segment because juicy gossip and drama is big business. It also suits Vince's ego and pettiness. People who think Cody can go to AEW and just play his AEW character unscripted with creative control have no clue how the WWE works or how Vince works. Cody is going to be scripted. He's playing the character Vince wants him to play. He's part of the WWE system. He wrestles how Vince and the agents tell him to. He's not THAT special. So you have to consider this when talking about his time in WWE.

I've said it from day one and never stopped saying it "Cody Bland Rhodes". The more actual talented ex WWE talent that comes into AEW, the more he gets pushed out. He'd have to walk thru a doggie door to even get into NXT. Personally if he retired, wouldn't make a difference in the a wrestling world.

I honestly don’t understand how anyone cannot see it like this. He’s going to get a bucketload of money and if it doesn’t work, two years down the road he can just go back to AEW for another big payday. There’s no way he makes this move without tons of financial guarantees.
