You are doing a too tight cast on. Try to do a really really loose one and it won’t act like yours did on the first row.

Your yarn tension is too tight which is why you arehaving difficulty turning the crank. Pull out an armoenth of yarn from the ball to loosen tension and your machine will woek somuch easier
