Thank God you didn’t edit out the little recta rack combat seen lol. Most people don’t believe this but if you’ve ever caught it on a game cam like I did years ago bigger bucks will actually run from spike bucks! The only logic I can see in it is the big buck has a full rack hanging off of his head usually creating almost a crown, he hast to go up against per se like a spike a shot in 2004 2005-ish a two spike deer with spikes that measure out 14 inches skull to tip. The only thing I can figure out as to why they would’ve ran from him before I shot him was if he got a good poke at another buck it would be like two daggers going into the bigger buck. That’s the only reason I can see as to why this spike buck ran off a 12 point, and an eight point from my property years ago. Sucks to neighbor got the 12 point and that was a gorgeous rack, I got the spike LOL didn’t hear the end of that one for a couple years about how I had Fed 12 point for months and then ended up with a spike
Maybe make a paste with instant coffee and paint it on, let it sit for a while, then pressure wash it off to leave a natural color. Then hit it with a matte clear. Anyway, cool video, thanks! Got me thinking about doing all my old euros.
I just had a guy do a European mount for me for a freshly killed deer. The antlers were beautiful in their natural state. Contrary to my instructions, he painted them with some early American stain that made them much darker and way shiny and unnatural looking. Any tips on how to lighten them back up to their original condition?
It depends what he put on them, but you could still (even 4 months later) scrub them with a mixture of borax/baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. then, leave them in direct sunlight for about 1 week.
It's up to you Kimberly, I know most people either lightly bleach the skull, or paint it. just make sure its clean and dry, especially before painting it.
Do you clear coat the antlers after the coffee stain? I recently just used this method and loved the results. Just wondering if it should be sealed after?
I’m getting ready to do one I shot this month Who is antlers or a little bit late, so I’m gonna do the coffee grinds but, I’m going to stick with just putting mop and glow over top of the antler instead of clearcoat. I’ve been talking to guys on other channels and people in Europe I guess that’s what they do. Also it was highly recommended to use espresso ground coffee beans they get into the antler much better and all the little nubs get coded really well. Over there they recommend leaving the grounds on overnight then rinsing them off the next morning sometimes it takes two or three grind jobs but the results are spectacular
