I love it! 😂 I picked up that cup about 15 years ago from a yard sale for $.25 each (I bought 2) Much like yourself I just loved the way it looked, the way it felt in the hand, the weight, it was just a really nice heavy duty glass. And I can also confirm they are perfect for hot chocolate 👍🏻
My grandmother had a set of those Nescafe mugs back in the early 70's and I hadn't thought about them (or Viewmasters and True Vues) until I saw this episode. Brought back good memories! You're so right about the power of RU-vid and finding kindred souls who share your interests and post helpful and interesting information. My wife thinks I'm crazy for the time I spend on RU-vid, but I wouldn't get much of her honeydew list done if it weren't for the helpful information I learned on RU-vid.
17:16 oh, that’s nice! Thank you so much for showing me how easy it is to fix a Phillips. I’ve been wanting to grow that skill for my whole life. You are a beautiful human!
Believe it or not, just as a coincidence while watching this video, I'm having a coffee from fresh ground beans from my great grandmothers coffee grinder that I finally repaired and cleaned last week, served in my grandfathers old mug with a sturing spoon from the truck brand he drove for over 50 years.
2:10 my mom had a set of those mugs. Wow, what a trip! She died in 95, and I never saw them again. I might have to search those out to relive the old days. She was a programmer at MacDonnell Douglas, and wrote the in-flight diagnostic program for the C-17 Globemaster
Thanks John, I remember having a Viewmaster, it was a nice old one made of a black bakelite like plastic, we were given it by our neighbours who had travelled extensively and had picked up tourist disks on their travels, so we have sets of Egypt, New York, California, India, Italy, Australia etc, we spent hours clicking through those images. Later on my little brother had one which had cartons on it, but by then they were much more cheaply made ! Great "tip" on re-gtinding the screwdrivers, I find these days with the hardened tips they are more likely to shear off than deform and wear the edges, then the only option is a narrow flat tip or an Awl ! The meter comparison was interesting, looking forward to seeing what you do with the vintage meter. Back when I worked in financial services I used to drink 6-8 coffees a day, but nowadays I have between 1 in summer to 3 in winter per day !
John, when i was in the food business, a buddy of mine worked for Nestle, those mugs were sold in a set of 4 and were to promote their instant coffee as being the Best in the World Instant Coffee! I remember he had a trunk full of 4 mug sets and would give to grocery store managers and buyers to get them to put up displays and buy promotional amounts of the coffee. Of course he gave all his buddies (other sales reps) all we wanted. Back in the 70 and 80’s, there were reps for all the major food companies, there were about 45-70reps here in Shreveport. On Friday afternoon, we would all meet up at a Denny’s , back our cars up in a huge circle, raise our trunks and the swapping would start….anything you wanted or needed was available….it was a benefit of the job as we were not paid that well…..
Love that mug.. Now I know where my B&D grinder went... I purchased one new in the late 70,'s..same exact model... It was way under powered, but it was better than nothing... But like most of my stuff, it disappeared... Thx for sharing, see you Monday...
Hello from UK. Thank you for showing the top on restoring Phillips screwdrivers. It's appreciated. How about a video suggesting second life tips for old screwdrivers/ tools, such as modifying an old screwdriver into a pick, for example? I'm sure there are loads more tips we could learn.
My buddy came up with a cute slogan for Fluke meters: “If it’s a good meter, It’s a Fluke.” I use a 100 year old anniversary Kellogg’s breakfast bowl, reminds me of your mugs. Like the tip on Phillip’s tips regrinding. I drink 4 cups of coffee a day, use a Keurig one cup coffee maker.
Wow! You just took me back to being a kid. I can remember my Sisters, Cousin, and I all playing with our View Master, while my Mom, Aunt , and Grandmother would be drinking coffee from those mugs. As I kid I would drink my hot cocoa out of them after sleigh riding. Now I wonder where those mugs got to ? On a weekday I have 3 to 4 cups of coffee. I usually have a few more than that on the weekends though. Thanks for unlocking a great childhood memory. Maybe I will see you at Jacktown.
John you were saying you can find other people on RU-vid with your same interests as yourself I didn't even know tool restoration was a thing till I found your channel years ago .been hooked ever since and as far as coffee goes finally I'm above average way more than 3 cups for sure
Great show today. The Phillips tip grinding was an eye opener. I drink 6 cups in the morning and really don't want anyone talking to me. I watch RU-vid in the morning to start my day. Thanks John
I drink an 8 cup pot of black coffee a day. I also consume a few glasses of water. I think I’m immune to caffeine. Some nights I can have a double espresso and go right to bed. When I was out of town on a project and out in the field all day without any coffee I never got that coffee withdrawal headache that some people get. Those Tru-Vue viewers are pretty neat. That Bakelite one cleaned up nice. I’ve noticed that some Phillips screwdrivers have a pronounced point whereas the screws are flattened at the bottom. So I’ve taken to grinding the tip off and they seem to work better. Another great video. Thanks.
Great episode Scout! Thanks for showing us how to fix a Phillips screwdriver. I needed that! One cup a day for me, I consider it a breakfast drink. I’ve known people that drink it all day. Whew! 🇺🇸
I usually drink 2 cups of coffee a day. That's my limit. Also, the tip for grinding the phillipses screwdriver it's a great idea. I'm going to be trying it this afternoon.
An old boss of mine left HP to become CEO of Fluke. He left days after the last time I saw him, but the news was out because it was a friendly departure between companies. When I ran into him, I complemented him on the new job. Thats when he said to me with a grin “you know what they say… if it works, it’s a Fluke!” Cracked me up. True story. By the way I love Fluke products.
I liked the part about TV collectors. Used to help fix the tube-type with my Dad in the early 70s. That's when I got started drinking coffee. Now I finish off a 12-cup pot before daylight... but that pot only fills 5 of my mugs, and it's mostly decaf, so I guess it doesn't count for much. ☕
I never had a mug like yours. I remember as a kid going to the fair and coming home with 2 bags of glass ware for my mom. We used Klein meters for work. They were so post to be re calibrated once a year. It never happened. You were a teacher today on regrinding Phillips tips. Thank You
No coffee for me - but I’ve had that exact globe mug from nestle for more than 35 years - I would serve my little girl chocolate milk or hot cocoa in it - and I would purposely call it the “world cup” not globe mug, knowing that as she grew up and moved away, anytime soccer “world cup” was ever mentioned, she would think back fondly sharing time with me. She's all grown up, moved away, has a little one of her own. “World Cup” means that globe mug with cocoa and time spent with her dad. Mission accomplished.
Excellent show Scout! Loved the lesson on bringing back a Phillips head driver. I do remember those Nestle cups. The Mrs. and I enjoy our coffee every morning. 😉
Very interesting. I am a simple guy. I fell in love with the the inexpensive automatic multimeter you recommended and it fits me perfectly. I am also guilty of wiring without shutting off power so will invest in the insulated screwdrivers if I live that long. 😂
Love the old analog gauge. Elegant product from a bygone era. As kids my sister and I had glasses from Marathon Oil that featured BC comic characters. The Welch’s jelly jar ones too. Three cups coffee/ day minimum. Fun show SC!
Love the mugs, I think Mom had a set back in the cabinet as far as how much coffee I call myself a coffeeholic I drink on average 5 to 6 cups a day myself. I own a small coffee shop here in Makassar Indonesia so I am my own best customer. Love the video on Phillips, always wondered how to fix them, now lets see you make one from scratch like you do your regular screwdrivers. That is my challenge for you. Thanks Scout, always look forward your videos every week.
I'm drinking two mugs of coffee a day and I've searched for this special Nescafe Globe mug, but it is not ofgfered here in Germany. Good show, as ever. Have a good time at Jacktown
I remember those mugs. My grandparents had them I always filled my hit chocolate in it and slowly filled to watch it pass the countries... That was a great trip back in time. I thought you had to send in labels to receive them.
"Snoop" abides, being a plumber in my working years spurs my interest in watching others still engaged in those practices that have change because of new products. In my day cutting different items was always a challenge but not so much today with a 4 1/2" grinder and a thin metal blade is awesome or jointing pipe water still dripping water is no longer a hassle to get back in service using a number of different choices available to the us all...BITD all I had up the proverbial sleeve was stuffing copper water pipe with bread to stop the dripping (not whole grain)...thxs for sharing
Hi John. Great video again. I hate to admit it. But I drink way too much coffee every day. I remember using one of those old wooden viewers when I was a kid 😅. At the time that was all we had. No tv 😮. Love your tip on the Philips screwdriver. Have a great weekend. 👍👍❤🙏🤠...
Hi John, I had one of the stereo viewers when we lived in CT. Our house was built in 1913 and we had fun furnishing it with antiques. We even had things like the stereo viewer and a bunch of cards. In our foyer, we had a 1920’s play bill from the Amsterdam Theater, a period ladies hand bag and a set of opera glasses. It was fun decorating our home with those things. Great meter segment. I had to chuckle as I have the exact same variac. And then the Phillips tutorial. Oh boy, the safety Sally’s are not going to like your grinder, but you sure have an amazing knowledge base. Well done. I spring 1 cup a day, but it is a 32 oz. Ball JR coffee mug with a nice beefy handle and a lid with a hole for a straw. I start sipping at 8:00 when I start work and the coffee is done by lunchtime. Hazelnut is my flavor of choice. Cream no sugar. Thanks for another great video. Best Regards, John
Tea is the beverage of choice in our home. One for me at breakfast, but my wife may drink 2 or 3. I also like iced tea, which down here in Tennessee is called "sweet tea".
I remember those Nescafe mugs, probably from seeing ads on TV. What kind of maniac doesn’t have a dozen or so old Phillips screwdrivers to practice on?
Zero coffee, zero roasted tea, zero craft beer (roasted). Walking into a foo foo coffee shop is smell hell. Allergic. Very educational video. Thank you.
I absolutely need to use my bench grinder to tune up my screwdrivers. Thanks for the great video on that! 3-4 cups of coffee per day. Black coffee only though.
Nice Friday mosh John really interesting stuff about the electric meters Love the mugs I have glass coffee mugs but they look way better heavy duty Nice in the hand god bless take care 🇺🇸🇳🇿🇮🇱🗽🪖🦅🐬🐝🐕🦔🙏47
This was great! Watching you grind the Phillips screwdriver to the correct angle was a big help as I have a couple that need reground. Thanks for sharing this.
I drink at least a half-pot from a Mr. Coffee 12-cup machine. If you like instant coffee, go to an Asian grocery and get their instant coffees. Single servings with or without sugar and creamer. Very tasty and inexpensive!
Great show as usual, Mr. scoutcrafter. I hope the adverts are urs and not youtube randomly sneaking them in and not giving you the ad revenue. It's about time you made a bit of money back. Keep up the great work.
Interesting stuff John! Great tip on the screwdriver regrind. Thanks for sharing! I used to drink coffee all day and evening long, but these days it's one cup in the morning of regular and 2 other cups of decaf during the day. The quality of decaf has really improved over the years.
Nice little tutorial on reworking Phillips screw drivers, have never even given it a thought about doing that for some reason. As for the coffee 2-3 cups a day, and now I have to go get a cup of hot chocolate, see what ya went and done now!!!!😮😊😂😂. The collecting aspect and You Tube vids, there are some amazing channels out there with some unique topics/ subjects and collections, me, I just collect all the really great ideas that presented, amazing content for sure. Thanks for the video, enjoyed watching.
Old TVes I have one in my house that my grandfather gave to my parents in 1950...an old G E With two doors that open to see the picture tube screen...nice tip on restoring a Phillips screw driver...🖖
I drink two cups of coffee a day. Interesting show! I have a Viewmaster projector made by GAF. I still have many of the reels, mostly old TV shows Flipper, Lost in space, etc.
Wow WOW Those nescafe mugs! I remember the commercials they were all about world travel! Thanks for sharing! 2 cups a day! COFFEE other wise known as starter fluid 😂🤣
3 coffees get me started first thing in the morning and then another 2 cups later in the morning to keep me going the rest of the day. Thanks for another great video!!
When I was flying to Europe a lot, the hotel room coffee was usually Nestles instant. Really pretty good. But not so good asxt hff e dmall CV orner coffee shops usually nearby. Was at Jacktown tuis afternoon for a preview, and it is going to be a fantastic one...
I drink zero cups of coffee per day and zero cups of coffee per life, last time I tried some which was about 5+ years or so ago I spit it in the sink. I won't be trying it again ever but I do have a bit of a Cocoa Addiction when it's cold, in the Winter I'll make a Big Mug about every night. I tried to get the Pumpkin Spice Marshmallows last grocery order but they were out........But I did get Carmel Apples and had one this morning for the first time in years, talk about a flavor explosion. 🍎💥
Wow. Thanks for the tutorial on Phillips! I have some old view masters and a truview with some slides that belonged to my parents. We always had a bunch of those as kids. I love those Nestle cups. Did you try moving those meters to different outlets on the power strip? I wonder if that affects the reading. You can drive yourself nuts with calibration and accuracy. Great show!
I’m with you Scout, I just don’t watch TV anymore, even programs I like because I hate those bloody commercials blaring at me. Only one of my friends are into restoring tools, but he lives 7 hours away, so I have more interaction with people on RU-vid and FB interest groups. Looking at your cool mug I see it’s happed again, Tasmania has been left off the bottom of Australia not that anyone on the main land cares😂😂. Cheers mate, Stuart 🇦🇺
Great episode! I drink more coffee than one should😂 I even have a collection of mugs😅. I definitely enjoyed the regrind tutorial! The meter testing was very interesting and informative. Thanks again and see you Monday
Best solution for Phillips screwdrivers I have found is boil them in salt water for about 30 minutes' Let them dry in the sun. When completely dry dispose as soon as possible.
Great show love those 3d viewers and I am usually a 2-3 cup coffee drinker per day sometimes I brew it sometimes I use my Keurig and drink instant at work to cover all bases 😂
I had that mug years ago but somehow misplaced it or threw it out. I drink three cups of coffee every day. I used to have a Mr. Coffee but switched to Keurig. It’s easy to use and you can use different pods for different tasting coffees. Drinking coffee black will no sugar is the only way to taste the real taste of coffee.
TGIF! No less than 2 cups a day... and some days 1/2 a pot! I like it brewed on rich and take it Black! I think I'll go have a cup now 🤠👍 I shot ya a email I think you find interesting Mr. John👍
Nice thick glass on that mug - last year I bought a half gallon thick glass syrup jug from the thirft store for $2... Been using it for my daily water every day since. No chance of spilling it since it weighs as much as a couple bricks LOL
I brew 6 cups in the morning. Drink all of it. I use Maxwell House and make it Marine Corps strong. Drink it black. No coffee during the day. You know that service coffee could be served by the slice. Semper Fi
1 cup of espresso or tea (Barry's green preferred.) I have to admit I am surprised you do not have a fluke multi-meter for all the electric based repair and tinkering you do their meters are tops. Have a pleasant weekend.
Bill- My Father’s friend passed away and left him 3 Fluke meters! I figured they were too advanced for me and gave them to my Dad’s friend when he passed. 😃👍
Hi Scoutcrafter I sent for a set of those cups in the mail with instant coffee I think in the 80s. I saved the coupons I believe you had to pay $6 and they came with 4 cups a sugar bowl with a lid and a creamer I used it for many years but when cups go through a dish washer to many times, they get ugly we got rid of them
Cafe mocha latte gets me going in the AM. 8 o'clock brand coffee & grinder. (Old A&P brand) I have a couple of view masters with 50 yr old disc's of NYC, cartoons, movies, etc.
I don't drink coffee. The times I drank it when I was young I got the runs so I stayed with tea. Don't know how true it is but they say the reason Americans alway drink coffee is because of the tax the British put on tea and of course they decided to have a large tea party in Boston. Coffee was not taxed so many started drinking coffee. Of course they drank a lot of hot chocolate in those days as well. Think of 90+ percent dark chocolate in water with no sweetner.
