Great presentation and demonstration. Such attention to detail. Very relaxing the whole process either watching or doing it yourself. Thanks for taking the time to share. Must make a trip to your shop sure would be tempting to buy lots. All the best Pete 👍

Great video. With 23 years in the forces under my belt, I’m more than comfortable with looking after and polishing black shoes. But now that my shoe selection is widening and becoming more exotic in colour than just boring old black, I’m leaving my comfort zone behind. Videos like this are invaluable for building that confidence to grab a shoe creme/wax other than neutral, and get to work enhancing and improving my shoes. Much appreciated.

Hi Richard, great video. I have a pair of these, had to buy on line as the store didn't have them in stock. Was a little disappointed that they were lighter in colour than they appeared in the catalogue. I have grown to love them and the quality and comfort is superb. Now I known how to confidently clean and care for them.

Brilliant video Richard, must have watched it a dozen times so far. I've got a pair of Burnished Dark Teals that I'm really keen to get redone. I'm not confident to wreck a good pair with my first try at doing it myself so will send them back to Frost Road and get the team there to do it, but I'm hunting for a pair of thirds from the factory to buy as a practice pair to try and learn from your tips.

Thankyou very much Billy. Each pair can be different, and results too can vary sometimes. So, don’t be afraid, just go for it, slowly slowly :-)

Depending the start colour, and the finish required I use a combination of dark brown and black. Fir a darker finish a little more black but only very little each time :-)

Great job! I think that more RM wears need to see this video so they can stop wearing their boots like they are made of sugar. Instead of the sponge with the nylon I use an old work sock; they are a wool inner but a nylon outer and when you have it over you hand you get that little bit more control but still can be vey light.

Hi Richard. Just a quick RM related question, I’ve just bought a lovely pair of comfort craftsman in Caramel direct from RM and although they will be for best so very little wear id like to use some sort of natural cream so not to change the colour or satin finish from time to time just to help keep them protected and soft. Appreciate a message isn’t ideal but I’m 2.5 hours away so not really viable for a quick answer although seeing the shop a trip will be on the cards for my next set I have my eye on. Thank you and kind regards, Mike

Hi Mike, I would use Saphir 'Cuir Gras' on the Caramel RMW which is made with an 'Oiled' leather. Cuir Gras is a neutral Colour Wax Dressing, specially formulated for oiled and waxed leathers, and will leave the matt finish you like. For colour enhancement or to help with scuffs and scratches, Saphir branded Shoe Creams in colour number 3. It will be a sincere pleasure to welcome you to store anytime, and if there is anything you might like to have but can't make it, feel free to call me anytime on 01302 360985.

@@theshoemandoncaster thank you Richard that is very very kind of you. It’s hard to find someone with the level and wealth of knowledge you have in their field. Think a trip mid December will have to be on the cards as the urge to treat myself again is already growing. Thank you again, it really is appreciated. Best regards Mike

@@MikeSpalding-zk1xs More than welcome Mike, and remember you can visit our store anytime day or night 7 days a week (private shopping out of hours available on request). You know the crazy thing about RMW ? I very rarely see a customer make their first purchase and we don't see them again. The vast majority come back after only a short time, losing for a different colour in what are now their 'go to' boots, and long may that continue Sir :-)

@@theshoemandoncaster I can imagine, I already know my next more everyday set, some comfort craftsman in Bark and I know you stock them as I e watched the video about 10 times 😂 See you in a few weeks and thank you again. Best regards Mike

@@MikeSpalding-zk1xs There isn't so much ready available stock in the Bark Mike, although it is part of the Core collection now. With that in mind, if you are seriously considering a pair, let me know the size and I'll reserve a pair from our stock for you if I can :-)

Good morning Hugh :-) I used........ A Suede Brush to clean out the Welt Stitching. A Sponge with nylon scourer to apply the Liquid 'Renomat' Clean and Conditioning Lotion. A Finger Cloth to apply the Shoe Creams and Waxes. Saphir Number 5 Dark Brown Cream for the darker Burnishing. Saphir Number 10 Cognac Cream for the whole of the Upper. Saphir Number 9 Mahogany Wax for final polishing of the Upper. Number 10 Cognac can be used for the Sole edges and Heel Stack if they are older, and have some darker colouring. If they are newer, then Saphir Cream Number 3 for the Welt, Sole Edges and Heel Stack. Don't forget, Shoe Trees, best fitted that fill the whole of the boot are important to put the boots close to original shape and to help during product applications. The flat of my hand was used for buffing the creams and waxes, although I did use a soft brush for buffing the sole edges and heel stack.

Great thank you so much. Keep up the good work! Just a quick question, what colour cream would be appropriate for a dark tan craftsman boot? Many thanks from Australia 🙏
@theshoemandoncaster
@theshoemandoncaster 2 года назад
@@hughmaddog5862 You could easily use the same Number 10 Cognac on the Dark Tan Yearling Calf. It is slightly lighter, but if required it could be toned down slightly with a darker brown wax ?

Hi Richard - brilliant work. I’ve just bought a pair of seasonal ‘caramel’ Comfort Craftsman boots and a pair of the same in black. The caramel are for play and black for everyday workwear. Are you able to do a vid on how to start caring for them from brand new? Cheers from Sydney! 🇬🇧🍺🇦🇺

Great video, is it possible to change the color from Cognac to the darker Bordeaux using the darker cream paint, what would happen if I used brown shoe polish? Thanks
@theshoemandoncaster
@theshoemandoncaster 2 года назад
Thank you for your interest. There is more colour pigment on shoe cream than wax, so I would use cream to effect the colour more than wax. That said, to go from Cognac to Bordeaux......Personally I wouldn't;t try it with shoe cream. You need more and permanent colour, so I would probably strip them first, then use a medium brown leather dye over the whole boot, and perhaps very sparingly and gently a little black dye around the toe and heel counter. The exact result you can't be sure of until it is finished. You can also adjust the colour with cream and polish during finishing, but you need a decent base colour first ?

Thanks for the reply, there is a lot of expertise in getting the right color and I am scared I may ruin a perfect pair of not so cheap shoes, so I may leave them as they are. I live in Adelaide SA so I can get another pair in the darker finish, cheers
