In the second of the two part video series, we'll track a full band using the Coil Audio CA-70 and CA-286, using Vanguard Audio Labs new V24 microphone. We'll go through the settings and sound samples of each instrument, as well as run a full mix back through the Coil preamps to achieve a final, front to back Coil sound. You, sir, are incredible for making EVERYTHING - the music, demo, video - top shelf! I give a slight edge to the 286 for that touch of sparkle, but you can't go wrong with either.

Superb demonstration and musicians :) CA-70 = warm king-sized -waterbed- honey-bed to melt into CA-286 = animated, smooth, fast, and forward Both are sounding strong, thick and as rich as one could just about ever hope for...amazing pieces.

A lot of natural compression on the CA-70. When I mixed the song, I used the CA-286 files and then applied the same settings to the CA-70 files for comparison. The acoustic guitar track needed a little bit of compression with the 286 files. When I heard it on the CA-70 files, I honestly could have taken the compressor off on that track and let it sit with just a little EQ.

Great video brother! Those Coils have been on my mind a long time. That Mic though, holy cow! So it's a Tube Mic I presume since it's C24 inspired? Sounds like a Tube Mic, but just making sure hah. Amazing Musicians! Everyone was awesome, but that Violinist blew me away especially!

I put a link in the description of the video I did on Vanguards new V24. It’s kind of a clone of the AKG C24, but lots of improvements. They basically put two channels of C12 in one mic, and added a switch for each capsules that will turn them into a 251 circuit. Not a cheap mic, but that’s the reason no one else is trying to do that. It’s one of a handful of stereo tube mics on the market right now, and the only stereo tube mic with fully adjustable polar patterns on each capsule. It’s wasn’t easy to do…

indeed based on the original C24, although not a rote "one-for-one" version of it. A tool is only as good as the engineer wielding it, and Matt did a fantastic job.

It's super hard to find the TC stuff to loan out, it was hard enough coordinating this with Coil as they're super backed up with orders. One of these preamps is probably going to stay here with me, if you can find someone that's willing to send a Rooster here for two weeks or so, I would be open to it! They're pretty drastically different units though, I don't know if it would be worth doing a whole video one it. Maybe we can find someone with a rooster and run some line level signals through each?

What's the processing on the various instruments? Is the reverb from a room mic or just a very live room?

The clip of the mic in M/S as well as the full mix clips both have some reverb on them. Individual instrument clips are all raw/flat without processing.

Haha. I still have Barefoot's, those are their MM45's. At some point, they make the MicroSub system to add on to them, so you can have a smaller version of their massive MM12's. Hoping to save for those one day! The Footprints were awesome though, they had a LOT more low end than these MM45's. But the MM45's are definitely a step up...
