this is the most useful video out there for learning how to decide what kanthal to use and what design is appropriate for noobs with RDA builds.. i very much appreciate your info, thanks!!
thanks a lot peg, ive been watching all kind of build videos and trying to make it exactly but I never really understood the why or the science behind it I love the way u explain things. keep up the good work u have taught me a lot and cant wait to learn more
Im so glad you are teaching us this ! Please keep it up I do want to learn this its important plus you are taking time to explain it ! Again thanks for your time !!
Cant wait for the 201 etc classes as I just purchased my first RDA and I'm not 100% on dual coils (parallel vs series?) Etc. Right now just running single coil mode, thanks for these classes!
You could turn these videos into a paid course tutorial on a place like Udemy it's that good. Excellent work in fully explaining what can be a very confusing subject. I've been looking to advance into RDA's and this tutorial on kanthal is spot on and well worth a watch.. Liked and subscribed :)
Great information peg, yt needed a how to like this When i first started building i remember trying to do rip trippers pro tank mini build with 28awg 5/64th bit 12 wraps ... I got it in the end but was a little tricky with the amount of room and experience etc, kept shorting as there was only little room, i generally have 26 to 32 guages now and 30 or 32 would have bn much more suitable then if i had known that then .... Superb layout and presentation man --- thumbs up
I'll just come out and say, Rip is nuts. LOL Sometimes hes genius, sometimes he's WTF, but we all know that by now. 28 gauge in a protank head is really pushing it. How much wick can you shove in a protank without clogging the air flow? That being said, without enough wick support. 28 gauge heat is quite the BBQ. Sure, now that you have the experience we can laugh about it, but for those just getting into building, really don't know what else to tell them except, "please don't do that" lol.
Thanks man! watching all your video's! Love the pbusardo reviews about the stuff and all, but this gives explanation of what they are doing! Thanks for the effort!
This is video like this and all of your others videos i watched that convinced me to subscribe to your channel. You are awesome Pegasus1337, i watched a lot of video on youtube and i was unable to find a small detail "the basic" to build coil. Keep up the good work, i can't wait to see your next video to put another like and support you.
Ya "got" me with this video, Peg.Ya hooked me and reeled me in! This is the vid that got you a new Subscriber! This is Buy FAR the BEST explanation on said subject matter that this DIY vapin' dude has viewed yet. Thanx Sooo much for yet Another clear, concise, and EZ to understand tutorial. You are a Most Xcellent teacher. Ya ever think about being an instructor/teacher?!?(or Are you???) And wishing a Most Xcellent Holiday Season to you and all your Pegs!
I have a jig builder to make my micro coils. What diameter is the size 0??. Thanks for the video it has solved a lot of the grey areas that I was missing.
Love the vid man, still need alot more knowledge, Im using a crius rta on a ipv d3, exclusively a dual coil, but then my tank gets super hot. Btw i do chain vape. I used to vape using the subtank by kanger, a single coil but the tank would'nt get super hot like how my crius does. What does this mean is it the build or resistance.
I'm a few days into rebuilding Kanger coils for my mini protank 2 and this video is exactly the info I was needing. Explains why my coil performance isn't as expected. Thanks for taking the time to make this. I've watched more of your videos and found them equally helpful. I subscribed. Quick question, If you were going to rebuild a coil for a Mini Protank to work with a standard Kanger 3.7v battery, how many wraps of what gauge would you recommend I start at? I'd like more vapor production than the original if possible, at least equal. I have 28, but 30, 32 and 34 gauge are on order, due to what I've learned from your video. Thanks again.
I used to think all those ohms were silly. but truthfully when rebuilding smaller coils do not overdo it because they are not meant to be built hardcore. its not possible there isn't enough room so really 32 gauge kanthal making those 2.0 ohm coils really is optimal. not just for the battery you use but also for the device itself.
Hey Peg, I need to ask. Yesterday I built a micro coil 6 wraps 28 gauge on kayfun 3.1 - 8.9 ohm and yesterday it was a hot vape. Today re-wicked & changed the juice and found it to be a cooler much smoother, pleasant vape. Yesterday I used a Cuttwood Sugar Bear 70/30 VG/PG & today it was a EC Blend reduced PG. What was the difference? Wick or juice, ratio or a combination? I would appreciate your input since you are now my official go-to guy. Thanks.
if you're not using a kick and its not as hot as before, could be you need a fresh battery. If the screws are not tight ohms go back up. juice has no affect on heat accept for some menthol juices that will give the perception of a cooler vape. you should meter it again to make ure its the same ohm. if you're using a kick make sure your kick setting hasnt changed.
Great stuff on learning Kanthal wires.. i'm trying to rebuild my OCC stock factory coil that comes with when you purchased the Kanger Submini tank. I think i got the basics of coiling it to the size, BUT not installing it. My question is, why when i installed the Micro coil onto the OCC coil, it only burns the legs of the coil, but not the coil loops? Hope to hear from you soon Azrul
Thank you for all the great information, that you are putting together in these coil building videos. Thank you for what you do, keep doing what you do &Vape On.
Hi Peg I've watched your whole series on coils, luxury vaping and cloud chasing again, for the second time. I've been building coils for a little while now and although they sometimes turn out real ugly, they consistently work for me now. Not being of the younger persuasion, although I don't mind coil building, I don't enjoy it so I want to experiment, but experiment from the point of view that I have a good idea of what the desired result is before I do it. This video is extremely useful, especially the chart that you create in the middle about 7 wraps of X gauge roughly equals Y ohms. Your explanation of the effect of nano - macro coils is a bit more vague - macro equals hotter? you mean lower resistance? Also, what is the effect of twisted coil, triple twisted coil, uber duber Rwandan cheetah coils and so forth. I know more coil to wick contact increases cloud/flavour vapour.... but by how much? What is the impact on resistance. Is a seven wrap parallel coil the same as a seven wrap dual coil? You get the idea. Is it possible to boil all this stuff down to a chartable, if approximate, summary? If so, a page on your website would be great. If not, perhaps another vid to go through this stuff in more depth. Tim PS - How come your sound is so much better in these older vids than your recent ones? Seriously, if I didn't respect your opinions so much, I wouldn't watch/listen, they're giving me a headache :(
Thank you I have learned so much from you over the past few days. And plan to start building me and my wife a mods. She smokes and I have been trying to help her quit by vaping myself with her but with 0 nicotine. I think going with the higher mods will find that heat she is looking for.
careful on this topic. I will be releasing a video on proper conversion soon. I have some updated noobie stuff in the mail that I need to complete this video. It will talk about how to properly convert a smoker to a vaper. It will have tips on persuasion as well as an in depth explanation on smoke mimicking. This video will be intended for you and not your wife.
use nic then she will not jones. will make it a lot easier. also nic really is not that bad for you. it's the burning of that crap that (cigs) bad. the smoke and all the chemicals that come with it. (carcinogens) also its not really about no nic its about harm reduction. if your just vaping for fun who knows could be worse for you than nic. one nice thing about vaping is that you can adjust or reduce your nic levels which you can't really do with cigs. besides smoking lites. but with vaping you can make the smallest drops by one until you hit zero if you want. another thing that smokers don't understand, that say vaping just don't do it for them (most likely bad devices) is that they can't even really get the nic I can. its like they have a beat up old Ford and I have got a rocket ship. I don't like most, because nic has a way of making you self regulate or not feel good. you just have to remember this is harm reduction. it just the best form of delivery. a lot of smoking is mental helps nerves, passes time, helps with just plain boredom. plus you got the whole hand to mouth action and then the conformation on exhale (vape/appears as smoke).throw in the nic and BOOOM why smoke, your done. I can still do what I was doing before but even better and with a fun hobby to boot. bye bye cancer sticks. easy as pie. I stopped smoking upon my first vape!!
Dave Boyer He said that, in support of his wife... (even tho he is a non-smoker) he intends to vape right along with her- only HE will be using non-nicotine e-liquids- Not that she would be..... Hope that makes sense now. Live longER & vape on!
Thanks to your videos I feel confident enough to take my vaping to the next level. Ive been using tanks forever and always wanted to get into building a drip system. Ordered everything thing I need last night and cant wait to start building! Keep up the great work!
Karma is hard at work today my friend! I was just looking for this EXACT info! Well not looking so much as wondering, so i typed in coil building and POOF! Here it is! Subscribed and liked. I was building 1.4ohm coils using 32 gauge! Man like 3 wraps or something stupid, switched upto 30gauge, bit better still not many wraps 4 maybe 5? Using 3mm wick. Not a real good vape(except of course in the Pro Tanks etc!) Now i see why! Thanks man, 28gauge Kanthal for the next builds..
Thanks for your videos. Does a larger size drill bit make the vape hotter or cooler. It sure is easier for me to get the cotton through with a larger size. I find my 1.3 ohm build using 28K to harsh for me. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
you can switch to 30 gauge kanthal. or you can back off the nicotine level a bit. you can also use a regulated device and back off the power a bit too.
this is EXACTLY what ive been looking for. No one could explain to me which gauge i would need to make my coils and how many wraps. the only answers i get are 'you have to just try it'. which i understand its a lot of trial and error, but i dont want to spend all kinds of money on kanthal that im not really going to use once i found the one i need. THANK YOU!
to be even more exact its the gauge and length of wire, theoretically it shouldn't matter how you to coil it up. but give or take little change. its really the length of the leads that sometimes throws off the build.
think like a two lane road but they are doing construction on it. when you travel on it day one its congested and slow. then day two they are done and now the "traffic" flows. or garden hose / fire hose.
Pegasus Vapor Academy What about the size and spacing of the coils? I read that more distance between the coils increases ohms. I assume bigger coils mean more ohms as well?
Pegasus Vapor Academy No doubt. Made me think of all the evil corporations and how they tend to use the mystery religion symbols and the ancient names of gods and goddesses. I though you might have been "Illuminati" (insert dark and dramatic music here). Back to coils...Dual coil builds...Have you done a video on them yet? What's the formula again? If you have a single coil that reads .75 ohms wrapped seven times (26g Kanthal), two of the same coils in a duel coil build will be half that resistance, is that correct? I really need to get an Ohms meter badly. I'm working from memory here after watching something about it a few days ago. I like your videos, you're sharp. A little less commentary would make them even better (no offense). I guess I've succumbed to the dumbed down attention span of the average American at this point in my life, what a crying shame.
Thank you! Really nice video! I have a request. Can you talk about Ribbon Wire in other video? With the sames exemples you gave in this video. Newbie question: 28 AWG = 28 Gauge?
"Newbie question: 28 AWG = 28 Gauge?" Yes absolutely. AWG is the acronym for American Wire Gauge. Again this country has decided to set its own standard. fuck the metric system I am 6 foot 2 wtf is A1 paper? Letter size is 8.5 x 11 My sneakers are a size 12 how come women in Asia wear a 38? and a small soda from McDonalds is a large everywhere else in the world. God Bless America
pegasus1337 Sometimes the nomenclatures confuse the hell outta me. How about the Ribbon Wire? Besides I want to know about it in the same way you explained in this video. I have another specific question. I want to rebuild my evod heads. I saw some people doing it with Ribbon Wire or 28 gauge. Maybe for a evod head 28 gauge will be too thick, right?
Hi Peg, really nice videos.... I do have a question about macro versus micro though. If I use 28 gauge wire 7 wraps on a 1/8" and do the same gauge and wraps on a 5/64" drill does this change the ohms? If so how? and what are some performance benefits between macro and micro coils using the same wire and wraps?
absolutely changes. unwrap your coil and straighten it out on on your desk. at the end of the day the total length of your coil in its gauge size is what determines the resistance. follow up question : so peg how come you don't use those coil calculator. Because they are accurate but not real world applicable. different devices require different amount of leads or wrap around the post type rig to properly install your coil. that distance must be added to the final resistance. so you will always get close not exact. this is why I preach adjust ability. use a kick, use a regulated device. build close to the ohm you want, then fine tune.
Was curious how I do the math to determine the best range of vape quality/ coil life for specific ohm builds? For instance, some atomizers suggest a .5 ohm coil should be used at 15-30watts, 1.2 ohm should be 12-25watts, 1.8 should be 6-10.2 watts? If i know the resistance of the coil how can I determine what wattage/voltage I should use it at to get a good vape quality/not over power or under power a coil without playing the trial and error game? Thanks!
Yet again another great vid Peg, these are the ones ive been waiting for which I knew would eventually come ;) over the months ive been looking at so many vids trying to understand this and have come away with more Q's then Answers! and in 16:23 secs I have actually understood something, well explained, thank you!
Pegasus Vapor Academy Mark Buckle I've been vaping for more than 2 yrs now AND have a photographic memory However, even with that being said, even if I don't technically "need" to watch them for their info...... think it speaks volumes to both his knowledge AND credibility... to still be interested in watching each & every one & word by word, they hold my attention! Get excited to see new ones get posted, too... I mean, ya never know what one might gain from them & from each other- we never stop learning! :) So, on that note- VERY well done, Peg... I know they take a lot to make, etc... but hope you keep 'em coming! I'm sure SO many new vapers/builders AN advanced/experienced ones too... truly benefit! =) Live longER & vape on! Amanda/IL
yes you hit it on the head!!!!!! its like 3 months of wondering learned in 16 minutes . WERE NOT WORTHY WERE NOT WORTHY again you outdid yourself! The fucking GURU go to. YOU Are The Best!!!! Thank You cant wait until the next vid. Signed Grasshopper all kidding aside great job again Peg
Its a very informative, thanks you but i have some questions, Can you tell me more about Gauge, does it like Mm or Cm? How to convert? Then 24, 26 gauge is thicker than 30, 32 gauge? If I want a big( not to big) and THICK cloud, litte flavor, what coil should I build? I have 2 rda( singe coil and dual coil) There are some questions appear in my head, so hope you will reply me soon Thanks much ^^
Hey man, got myself a blackhawk with the Four posts (five including the smaller one in the middle) and am having a hard time getting it working optimal with regards to making the coils. Not really getting a lot of cloud. Any tips and tricks on how I can do this?
I'm sorry, is this a trick question? are you waiting for me to say, "A Black Hawk is a mod" If you're skeptical of my knowledge you can just watch my other videos.
Woah. No man you've been super helpful. Not once was I slamming that. Was being serious. My coils are not producing any cloud. Guessing that your not a fan of the blackhawk. I am new to this and a new vape store opened in my town and they reccomended it. Was being honest about needing advice. Not sure why you took insult from that...?
Welp, I didn't want to believe that you'd ask a question before you learned the lingo. I cannot help you because you don't know whats, what right now. Lets just say the black hawk is not what you're asking about, because that's not an atomizer, it doesn't have posts. Sounds like you described an igo-w3 but its more important that you're certain. So instead I just assumed this was a trick question testing me. so if that was not the case I apologize as well. right now your question sounds like this. Yo peg I got these Michelin's but its not going as fast as I think it should. What should I do about my V8? Michelin's (black hawk) is the tires, you need to tell me what car.
Im getting my 1st RDA in the mail soon already got Kanthal, Organic Cotton, and buying a Ohms meter this weekend. That being said if I build a 1.6ohm coil does that have the same effect on my mod as say a 1.6 kanger coil? Please let me know on here or my Twitter. Link is on my page. Thanks a lot Peg.
great video and thanks for that BUT only because you build a coil on a screwdriver and put tue wicking material in later it is not automatically a micro coil. a micro coil is a coil that has 2 up to 3.5mm inner diameter and has touching windings. any smaller than that it is a nano coil. any bigger it is a macro coil. and not every coil with 2-3.5 mm is a micro coil... there are the "oldscool" spaced coils where there are gaps between the wraps... at least is that how i was told it 2 years ago from a few builders. but as i saied great video
Norok Vokun This is good info. I'm trying to figure out how to rebuild a stock Tobeco coil head. It's not like an Atlantis. It's a parallel with what I think is a 4mm ID. I could be wrong and it's a 3.5 ID. But first I have to figure out AWG, just know it's smaller than 26g. So much to learn!
Peg Subscribers-allow me to show you why Peg is an asset to us vapers. Peg can approve or delete this. Look up Indoorsmoker's RU-vid channel and watch his video titled "Trying out mechanical mods and sub ohming"...... Nice guy. But this video shows the danger that is out there and the ignorance behind the retail counter. At least we are off analogs right? We don't have to understand everything. Why or how a coil lights up. We just know that it does. Ohms law? Yeah. We need that foundation etc. Not in the Above video though.....
Pegasus Vapor Academy Where could I get a set like that locally? I hate having to order everything over the damn Internet, sucks if you need it right away.
I finally took the plunge and made my first zipper coil with 3 stand 26 gauge coming in at . 2 ohms vaping comfortably at 40w on my Sigelei plus. i58.tinypic.com/14kadfd_th.jpg
I WOULD JUST KISS YOU ALL OVER. Thank you for this excellent video. And its so nice to see a guy with such a nice fingernails. It says a lot of you. I mean, if you know the camara is going to be shooting on those.. lets clean them, right? Most people on videos Ive seen have nasty nails. Anyway. I loveeeee all you vids. Been learning a loooot from you.
ive build coil for aspire nautilus with 26g wire.. and i try to hit that in 15 watt.. is kinda slowly reach max heat .. Suggestion pls for all vapers read this. thanks
My suggestion is throw that tank away, reason being is the floating positive pin. Since its floating you could cause a short if screwed onto mod to tightly( or screw coil in to tightly) threaded positive pins are much safer given you are still being mindful of the causing a short aspect
