nick, thanks so much for your tutorial videos. no flashy crap just good builds. i like watching your technique, and your voice is relaxing, no hype to be found. you taught me some really good best practices. thanks.
I watched your alien video a couple times and the info you provided in there , especially how to stretch a 14" decore to 11ft. Also to POV camera helps a lot to see the angle you run your alien clapton on. Thank you so much I tried my very first attempt at a 2x24/26gn80 alien and couldn't get over how easy it was after following all your directions! Thank you again bro!!!🙏🙏🙏🔥🔥💨💨🤘👊
Hey Nick, I just got interested in coil building recently. You are the most thorough and patient teacher I found online. Got my drill and swivel start of the week, managed to pull off a simple fused clapton. Waiting for more wire to arrive, thanks so much for the just starting out series!
Awesome video and tnx for the details, it really helps me a lot to finally make my own aliens!! I spend like and 30 minutes to make 2 coils but I don’t care I made it haha!!
nick, could you talk alittle about the no-stretch method im seeing other people do? like you take the decore and strech it using tension off the run, rather than pre stretching. this is suposed to allow more room for error to get the distance between coils right? they did a shitty job demonstrating it in their video i think yours might help me better
i agree Nick. i never bind my cores on aliens. but then again i also dont secure the non drill end. i leave them free. it looks really odd, but works for me
usuall when making 3 core aliens, i secure only the drill end. no others. so the three cores are flopping in the wind. lol. i get perfect untwisted aliens everytime. i have an extremely "odd" style of making coils ive been told. its all in the way i position my finger that feeds the wrap wire. how i hold my finger makes the cores flatten out right before the wrap is laid on the core. but the way i see it, as long as the coil is being made, and being made properly, then everything else doesn't matter.
Adnan Sabljic wick tighter, hot spots will do that too! And thin juice will crackle heavy. I’m Rambo, the guy who Nick was talking about. Hope that helps if you didn’t figure it out since this question is a year old lol
Man watching this video made all the difference to my tri core alien build. I could never get my stretch right! 14" stretched to 11 feet and BOOM! you are the man 👍
Hey bro I was just watching your video on how to build these aliens. So watching your video this would be my third attempt and I followed everything that you said pretty much to the tea bye it came out to be a mess again. How much wire did you waste until you finally got it down? And I noticed when I’m doing the final alien rap the alien isn’t wrapping tight enough It seems to be spread out too far away or as yours but up right against each other. I would appreciate your feedback
I ordered that new Unstretcher 9000 but sadly, it still hasn't arrived. Supposedly, it can also turn ribbon wire into perfect round wire and vice versa.
Hi, can I ask you a question? Why when I finish doing my alien, the end result is always wrong like a corkscrew and I can not put it back simply by making a few reverse turns?
thats the thing with alien,i prefer build 100 staggered fc rather than 10 alien.why?when the d core rolls back, you cannot fix it,when you over stretch it it all over
yeah, try no strecth method.me personally i like semi streched method,i stretch it a little then when im about to wrap the d core over the cores i put only a small tension on my tumb.pay attention to your tumb when wraping the d core,in my case i first taught it just like clapton/fused,i throw a lot of tension on the fine wire so it became flat and lose the spiral shape.trial and error, then you will fine the method that suited you.but still, workin with d core is pain in the ass LOL
@@lazypablo8505 I like to under stretch a little too, but lately, when I'm adding that tiny bit of tension, my cores fold in on me. I've tried the draw strings, key rings, tape, 2 diff sizes of paper clips, and clothes pins. I even tried the pitch fork method at the swivel end. Just cannot get it.
For whatever reason, I'm having trouble making two core aliens. I can make tri-core aliens no problems. I think I'm not stretching my de-core properly or using the wrong gauge to clapton on in the first place. I'll finishing watching the video now. By the end of it, I hope to learn what I'm doing wrong.
I Am Lam Nick's videos are a treasure trove on RU-vid. Coil Wars on FB is neat though. People post pictures of coils and usually explain how they made them, you can also ask questions to those builders who you see are making the perfect coils you're failing at to get more info or help to advance you're own builds. I've grown from basically being able to wrap a round wire coil to pushing 3 sets of tri-core fused claptons 3*28/38 out in an hour after 2 weeks of practice worth 4 2 hour sessions. I've watched this video twice now. So I hope I'll finally be able to make an alien coil tonight.
I had been trying to make a perfect alien for 4 months and didnt make it. I started with a 2core 30awg+40awg and made only an 2,6 intch useful piece : 2,5mm 6 wraps for mtl. Decord was from 30awg so alien math was crap. I have to use 34 awg for that 2*30awg+ 40awg , an 34/40 awg decord. Any ways this was my learning process. Still, since i dont have 34 awg for now my mtl aiens 2*30+40 are made with 30+40 decord and alien math is wrong. Snce the previous 2 weeks i make my 3core aliens 3*27+40 with a 27awg+40 decord (logical for alien math). However i mess up quite often, because i stop and start every 2 intches (i use wooden paperclips to secure the 3 27g cores), but ive got some(many) tips that might help beginners from my prespective: 1. If you want to make a 10 intch alien piece, make the clapton 1,6-1,7 times longer, so that you do not have to worry about your clapton getting short too fast. 2. when you straighten your wire do not straighten too much, because it will have a better chance for the 3 cores to make a triangle. It will fuck up the alien clapton too. Just straighten little time untill the core wire is straight. Its much more useful when you dont use paperclips to keep the cores in line. 3. If you stretch the alien decord too much, you have to clapton in an almost 90 degree angle, whereas the alien decord is tilting towards the swivels. 4. If you understretch, the alien decord must tilt more to the swivels to get the clapton. 5. Locking on the angle and tension is a must. Thats the alien claptoning philosophy. To try and mantain the tension and angle until someone finishes his aliens. 6. For a easier life, a beginner has to start with a 34 or 36awg decord clapton. I build all builds with 40 awg, dont follow my masochistic shit plz. 7. Alien math: A tricore alien doesnt require nuclear science for alien math , just clapton the decord with one of the 3 cores. For ribbon builds/ 4+ cores just count the total length of your desired build in mm and divide with 3. This way you get the best alien wave as you see with all skilled coilbuilders (dont do my 2 core alien with the one of the two cores decord, you dont get that desired alien "waving" ). Eg a six core 30g alien has a length of : 6*0,25=1,5mm and 1,5mm/3= 0,5mm so 0,5mm=24g core for decord. For a fralien eg 2*28g + 8*0,3x0,1 ribbons you have : 2*0,32 + 8*0,1= 1,42mm and 1,42mm/3= 0,47mm so a 25g(0,45mm) core for decord should do the job. 8. Personally try once a week to make a alien when you stop and start the claptoning so that you learn to keep the tension mostly ( and the angle too ) intact. You are not supposed to make a coil oout of this, but it helps for having a steady hand during the process. 9. Always check your ball bearing swivels and lubricate them once a day with i drop of motor oil or motor grease to avoid rust and the bearing getting stuck. Ive got together a 10ml engine oil with me when i build coils. 10.Im not an alien god .On the contrary 80% of my alien builds dont give off a pair of 2 coils as i plan, but only get 1 cause i fuck up too often. I do really have to try aliens without paperclips. Stopping claptoning to move swivels and simultaneously using 40g is too much for me. And since i dont plan on using a lower gauge for claptoning, eg 38g ive got to stick with 40g. Btw its 2nd time i watch this video
Have you tried out the hollow wire clip jigs from amazon or where ever? Fits right in the drill and keeps the wires perfect and the other with a little tweaking fits into a ball bearing, i feel like recommending these for starters makes it so much easier to keep the wires perfect especially for more advanced difficult builds. Seen a lot of your videos but hadnt noticed those so thought it throw it ou there .. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054HJ76M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If someone is going to be directing every word I say and take me so litteraly they get offended, then I don't want them watching me anyway, seems like u are just starting trouble, or u would have just moved on
