I don’t have a single coin but I love your channel. Your enthusiasm and insight makes me a better investor in the collectibles that I do collect. Cheers!

I was into coin collecting as a kid, and yes I had my little folders. I dont have those coins any more, and I have a few proof sets in my fire safe. I feel the itch coming back a little bit........and I want to start to read up and learn again, because I dont think the desire never left me.

I am not a collector but you seem like a likable guy and do a really good job explaining things and staying on topic.

This was fantastic. You answered so many questions on coins. I’m interested in rare coins. Particularly silver and gold ones since I already invest in silver/gold bullion. I already have some PCGS gold and some silver coins. But don’t know much about numismatics. I’d also love it if you went in depth on comic books since I think they’re becoming more established (but also seem to be more reasonably priced than 2021-2022) Thanks professor Shawn Regards Metal Bum

I’m new to collecting but I see examples of the importance of learning how to grade. In 2018 a 1934 s peace dollar graded MS65 sold for about 13000 which is double the price of other coins in that grade. It looked significantly better. The winner of the auction got it reslabbed in an NGC MS66 holder and sold it at an auction for 19000. The winner of that auction sent it to PCGS where it was slabbed MS66 + and sold it at auction for over 79000. The current owner is asking over 99000$. Quite a significant change in less than two years.

I would be interested to know how old the MS65 graded slab was...my understanding is that the grading standards were much tougher in the early years of grading as well as the Peace dollar was notoriously known for poor strikes

You can see it on CoinFacts. It’s the MS 65 that sold for 13,200 on 6-2018

@@PomskyAriel I looked at the coin...looked like a lot of marks for a MS66+ but the coin has it going on otherwise

Regarding 14:30 - Jim Rogers said it best, and I'll summarize; Invest in what you love, what you enjoy learning about, what you're passionate about, and you'll likely make money, however, if you invest in things you don't know about and don't like learning about, you'll likely lose money.

Really informative and seems to be a great place to start with coins. I am in the UK. Would the books you recommend be appropriate and have some overlap, or are the markets completely different and it would he a waste of time.going through the recommended books?

If you are collecting UK coins, the books mentioned would be of little use as they focus on US coins. The world coin collecting market is growing though...

Have you found a specific price that "generally" makes something collectible? Based on your $1k minimum for coins, it really makes me think that $1,000 is an anchored number that has significance for people. Compared with so many mass-produced, modern products $1,000 is probably in the 1% of single items. The most "expensive", commonly mass-produced items sold in the US that I can think of are vehicles (greater than $1k) and iPhones (less than $1k). Neither of these products are intrinsically collectible but they definitely have "emotional responses" generally if lost.

Wholesalecoinsdirect has been offering me discounted proof 70 gold eagle sets, but it’s outside of my understanding, I’m just a billion stacker. I came here to do some research, thx. I collect toys and exotic fruit and nut trees, mostly, and mopeds if I had a warehouse. I think I’ll stick to bullion.

did you know that gold and silver are extra terrestrial, these metals come from outer space and came to earth via asteroids and meteorites ;) real money with a 10,000 year history, who can beat this track record :)
