I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for my geographic ignorance. At the time I recorded this video, I was clumsy in lumping Pakistan into what many Americans think is the 'middle east'. I've since educated myself, learning Pakistan is part of South Asia and the Indian subcontinent. I'm trying every day to learn more about that part of our world. Silly American!
Does not matter John as long as you are true in your reaction. For more on the singing and instrumentation - this belongs to the Hindustani Classical School of Music. The Indian Sub-continent has another school of music known as Karnatic Music. Both are worth exploring for all lovers of Music.
This is the Bhajan Meera Bai used to sing... However, with time many singers filtered the words their way... But you can feel the soul of the song.. as meerabai singing Chap tilak sab cheen li re mose naina milai k..means just by looking into eyes my identity and name have been stolen by you... Lord.
Abida parveen is so high spiritual intellect that she wanders and enjoy in next level of singing. Her focus remains on the message of the lyrics. Many ppl find her difficult to understand. But she is the greatest sufi singer at present. You can see here she doesn't adjust to music, the music adjust with her 😇😇😇
'Chaap' is worn by muslims and 'Tilak' is taken on forehead by hindus. So the chorus roughly translates to, 'You've snatched chap tilak and everything when your eyes met mine. ' And it's not wrong saying 'You've snatched every trace of me' because chap and tilak are symbols of Hindu and muslim religion. But when you're finally awakened and englightened and that one universal soul's eyes meet your eyes there is no turning back. You realise all these religious symbols and rituals and everything are nonsense. And every lyrics which seems like romanticised is actually refers to that one ultimate reality which people call god.
@@shantsagar woah! This was an eye opener. I never knew true intentions behind the lyrics. This cut-down version-made-into-song one is only half the story then.
@@f2pgamingcastleclashmore119 well we dont know that, but if you really come to understanding the classical music, you cant have a reaction, rather it will produce a euphoria sort of a catharsis.

@@MrRahul6464 I wish to congratulate you for considering literally every piece of art, music or literature as a methodology to convert various communities to Islam. While I cannot blame you, there are various incidents favoring your claim. But irony is not every link or website you visit will give you authentic claims. Sufi qawali or songs are also one way to connect with divine and inner God, just like any bhajan or shloka sung by saints. Amir khusro was in the era where mughal tyrants were invading our country. At that time they didn't need a propaganda to force convert, mere threat of life was enough or at the max luring towards a source of business income was enough to push communities to change their religion. Don't belive everything which one source tells you. Listen to these songs and decide by yourself, are you getting tempted to convert to other religion? You will get an answer.
@tarannum rana Really, so that's what you interpreted!! 👏 Just like Mr peace, I would say to you that it's not your fault. Time is such. But try to interpret this spiritually, you will get that. The moment you dwell your inner consciousness into Prabhu, these outer wordly identities become secondary. So once again, do some more search. Peace out!!

I’m black African and Christian, and not familiar with Pakistani music, but this touched me to the core too. It transcends culture, race, religion, geography.....I sense something of God channelled through their voices.
Just the singers are Pakistanis the poem is written by amir khusro a sufi Saint, from region of magadh, now bihar. Pakistan came into existence after 1947. Typical Western problem.
@will hart this taste of the music is known as Sufi Music its connected with Spiritual emotions...and there was subtitle showing for each and every line .
It’s a sincere response. This song takes you deep into your being. :) It had the same effect on me the first time I heard it. These artists are so invested in their craft that they go beyond themselves and allow the supreme to come through. That’s what music is supposed be.
Another fun fact - Amir khusro was Muslim and he had written this for his guru nizamuddin Aulia and language is braj which is pure local Hindi of the region where lord Krishna was born and lived. This represents bhakti/ devotion towards the guru❤
@@nbanime6100 It says otherwise with those religious landlords, we must bring the space to discuss things and lets see whether we agree or not, but we duely can agree to disagree!
Abida Parveen connects you to something so pure and heavenly and beautiful and deep that you never want to leave her world. God bless Abida Parveen and all the other brilliant singers, especially the classical traditions of South Asia.
On hearing this for the first time I felt the same thing, it's beyond words really. It's the divine soul resonating through her voice that opens your heart to rapture.
That's actually truly and purest connection to almighty God. They are singing a song (Kalam) written by a Muslim saint. It's pure Sufi song and connects listeners to God directly beyond their religions, race, languages and region.
And the singers are classically trained singers who are legends in their own rights. The vocal range, powerful belting, the nuances can but touch anyone

This is the love of Amir Khusro for his mentor , his Guru Khawja Nizam us din Aulia. This is power of true love without any compromise just pure love for the beloved in which he sees the God and his beloved Prophet Muhammad Salal laho alyhe wasalam. What you have experienced is a fraction of fire which Amir Khusro was going through.

I know, how you felt though, we all get the same emotional crunch when these legends blow our hearts and souls, believe me. So glad to see you enjoy these treasures. No words can even come close to describing what we all feel collective. Just blessed with grace and blessings to have witnessed this. Amen
Agree completely, music is totally universal. Also when masters put their whole heart into it and make the piece emote it does touch the soul at a very primal level . This piece was originally written by Ameer Khusrau (1253-1325) in the late 1200s , as an emotive transcendent tribute to his spiritual master . And obviously the love he talks about is both human and through that to the spiritual love of the divine .
Hey John, that was so generous of you, undoubtedly you're a true & pure soul.. and of course, music needs no language, it carries the divinity & purity with it.. so true music hits the soul really hard.. for your further info, this song *Chhap Tilak* was originally written by Indian Sufi poet, singer, musician and scholar *Hazrat Amir Khusrow* almost 800 years ago in 13th century, when Pakistan was just a part of India, it is always sung in India & Pakistan with the genre of Indian classical music.. and this is not the only creation of Khusrow which is frequently sung in India & Pakistan.. you'll find so many even on RU-vid.. and what can we say about these 2 living legends.. they're just out of this world.. stay blessed..👍🏻
OMG....!The greatest and purest ever reaction....You are a genuine soul...That is called Sufi music,it is genre of music that connects you to Divine's love...This masterpiece is about 150 years old from Nizam uddin Auliya(A sufi)Ofcourse,no one can judge these living legends...

An ardent fan of Abida Parvin, since the era of tape recorders. Every time I listen to her voice, can feel explosion of divine joy in my grey cells. This particular composition transcends all the boundaries of language, religion, ethnicity and even that of human existence. It's cathartic! Cleanses the blemishes of my soul and for a brief, very brief moment I can feel the presence of the divine within! Ahom Brahmasmi!!
Two of the Greatest singers in the world in the same room singing together ❤ The word legend is often used to loosely these days but should be reserved for true LIVING LEGENDS like these two 👏🙌👌
That is the power of words bro. Even without music if you listen to this you will feel it. Amir khusrau wrote it signalling towards Nizamuddin Auliya Sahab. Nizamuddin Auliya's grave is in Delhi near to Humayun's tomb.

@@alexi2460 no, it's Indian in origin. Parts of it are in Persian language and the rest is in Khadi Boli(Hindvi/Hindustani/Hindi). This is pure Indian poetry, it's not a 'Ghazal' btw
So refreshing to see your real and raw emotion from these two legends of music. There is only one god and when our minds are pure and free music can take us to that spiritual world. Rahat ji and Abida Ji both were outstanding. God bless you John your a good soul buddy
