Madinah means City in Arabic, proper name of city is Madina al Munawara(Lights), after Prophets arrival.

Though Atif is not a Qawal,, he is a marvellous artist but he did a very excellent job. This Qawali was basically by Ghulam Freed Sabary Qawals somewhere in between 1960 to 1970, but again they were well recognised Qawals. Superb job by Atif.

He has sung many many bollywood songs, they are amazing. But ofcourse personally for me, his private works and coke studios stand out more. My top three from him would be Rabba Sacheya- the album version is just as good as the coke studio one Tu Jaane Na- a bollywood ballad Channa- Coke Studio

Madina was Yathrib, inhabited by Ansar tribe, and Jews, for long before,, The Prophet was invited by The Ansar, welcomed tremendously by tribe, with girls singing his praises, at his arrival.

Actually, Tanya, I think you will enjoy Martin Lings' literary style as he was a Shakespearean scholar. He left his teaching post in Egypt and decided to study classical Arabic at SOAS, London, in his 50s. Which is really fascinating. He was also a scholar and lover of Sufism and Sufi saints :)

Hi Tanya great review. The lyric translation is done by a punjabi who doesn't fully understand english. They really need to be done by someone who has both a mastery of punjabi and English. The translation on youtube does not do the lyrics justice. I was born in the punjab and I understand the lyrics differently to those on RU-vid and the goosebumps are even more profound and tears well up listening to this song...absolutely magnificent song and production

Hi Tanya, a little correction Madina as a city was not built by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) it existed atleast 1000 years before Prophet (PBUH) migrated there alongwith his honorable companions. Fun Fact: the word madinah in arabic actually means city thats why we also call it Al Madinah Al Munawarrah (The Luminous City) its ancient name was Yathrib. Lovely reaction and have a nice day.
