Col Conk Amber Shaving Soap! I had such nice results with Col Conk Lime shaving Soap, I thought I'd give the Amber a try.

George, I use col conk amber, Gillette speed razor 1964, a tea blade, pinauld after shave lotion, and fished with avon's wild country after shave balm. The most superb shave. I watched multiple videos of yours and combined several to come to this awesome shave, thanks

Hi Mark- Nice shave and review today; thank you! I have not tried the Col. Conk’s soap, as yet, but will definitely give them a try. I like the melting technique and the transfer into another container for lathering. Well done, Mark! Take care and best regards!

I've used Conk's amber for years, I've had trouble getting it in the past and found dial glycerin soap works to, not as slick but gets the job done.

Jeff, really? That sounds like something my dad used to do when I was a kid watching him shave. I guess with five kids, sometimes he used whatever he had rather than buy shave soap.:)

You can also melt them into a preferred travel container. I dont melt it quite as thin, but like the stick form and put it in chapstick type tubes Then use for face lathering or just as soap when traveling. Although chapstick tubes will not retract if over extended, unless you find the right size straw to keep it from melting to the adjuster threads(simple sleeve, then remove when firm). A chapstick tube, small alum block and a disassembled 3piece and or shavette is my micro shave kit. a brush is nice and holds a few more passes of foam, but isnt essential for the backpack kit.

Great video review, I’ve been looking at possibly getting this soap and am glad to hear about the slickness. I am more of a two pass guy that does a lot of sneak in touch ups on a couple of odd growth pattern spots during my second pass. So I tend to go over a small spot in another direction for a couple of strokes but Only if it’s slick. So the slickness is a great plus for me. Thanks again always a pleasure 😊
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 6 лет назад
Thanks.:) yes, it is quite slick.:) It likes water, so be sure to add water when needed. I didn't add much at first for fear of it being too runny. But, the slickness is certainly there. As always, be careful when going over an area a second time after removing cream. Slickness is retained, just be careful. If need be, simply dab a bit more later int he area. But, I had no problem as you can see int he video. I used thesdame blade this morning with my Vikings blade Vulcan razor and again used the Amber. I got an amazing BBS shave!:) I'm tying this three hours later and am still delighted by the result!:)

Thanks for another excellent video! Why not use the benefits of the glycerin soap and leave some of that good slickness on your face? That nice scent is identical to that found in Nutrogena amber soap, by the way. I didn’t have the success with lathering this soap that you did. Then again, I didn’t melt it down. I think that should let it bloom longer in hot water.
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 6 лет назад
Scott, all good and valid points.:) I think, sometimes, I become a bit concerned about the length of the video itself. I cut out a lot of stuff. As you can see, I use dissolves/fades and time compression in order to move things along.:) Regarding the lather, try using a synthetic brush. With hard soaps, it makes all the difference.:) Also, give the Marko Method a try: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b_0en7F-B_g.html

mark another great video from you, the problem with the pucks is that I cannot put them on my shave den, I was looking on ebay etc but cannot find the boxes ( plastic, cristal, metal ) to keep these pucks clean from dust, the boxes I am looking for are for aprox 150 ml max and diameter size 70 mm and 25 mm high, do you know where to find them or how do you manage to keep the pucks on your den , regards robert

Hi, robert broes. Thanks for the nice words.:) Here's what I do...I have a shaving bowl/mug whose top diameter is about the same size as a small plastic lid. These lids can be ofond on various products. think Pringles chips, only a bit larger. then, I place the puck in the mug, load my brush, face lather, etc. After the soap dries and I'm not using it for some time, I place the lid on the mug and store it away.:)

Hi Mark, I know this is a silly question but when you start a lather in the soaps container before moving it to a lather bowl, do you have to let soap dry before closing lid, do you since suds away etc.... Or can you just pop lid back on wet and store away......thanks
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 6 лет назад
mentaltmc I I always let my soaps air dry during the day. When I come back home that's when I put the lids back on. And not to worry, a very good question!
@mentaltmc

Thanks. Tonight I will be trying a new scent. Phoenix and Beau's Imperial Rum. A fantastic scent.
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 6 лет назад
My pleasure. Additionally, I don't rinse away any remnant soap or lather. There's not much there. What is left usually gets removed when I add water to the puck to prepare for the next shave. But, I definitely allow things to fully air dry before I replace the lid. Others may do it differently. This is how I do it.:) To clarify, if I load my brush from a soap puck and then build a lather in the shaving bowl/mug, then yes, the shaving bowl or mug gets cleaned out. But if I'm going directly from the mug/bowl the soap puck sits in, I simply air dry. Either way, I let the puck air dry. It's soap.:) You can't really go wrong with it.:)

I heard it was not a good idea to melt or reheat as it may damage the properties of the soap and won't perform as well I prefer to jus press it down and use it
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 5 лет назад
Yes, but I think that applies mostly to tallowl-based and Artisan soaps. My understanding is, Glycerin soaps are a little more forgiving when melting. But, if you prefer, simply cut up and press into a mug/bowl..or shave with a cheese grater... that sort of thing
@kwangnam9993
@kwangnam9993 4 года назад
Glycerin soaps are hard and I melt them in the microwave for 15-30 seconds and it performs the same. Soaps like Arko are very flexible like Play-Doh and you can mash it and form it in a cup.
@eminusipi
@eminusipi 4 года назад
Wouldn't it be better to melt it in the mug rather than transfer it? There would be no waste that way. I carefully melt it in a microwave, it takes just a few seconds. I like Col Conk soaps too they are nice and slick. Time to buy another variety pack.
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 4 года назад
Yes, possibly. But I was using a Pyrex beaker which can withstand a good deal of heat. I wasn't so sure about the heartiness of the mug. I was afraid of it chipping or cracking. Some time ago, I had a shave mug that started to chip just a bit when I attempted to microwave a Col. Conk Puck in it. So, this is why I use the Pyrex.:) I love Col. Conk.:) Lime is fantastic as is their Bay Rum.:)
