This was possibly one of the most disturbing scenes in the entire Cold Case series. How impressive it is that such mentally illness and abuse can exist behind the closed doors of a “loving Christian family”. My father was a high functioning alcoholic who’s condition got worse throughout the years to the point where he had paranoid delusions about others in the family. He wasn’t physically abusive but it was still hard. Very few people outside my family knew about this.
This show often went out of its way to take in the realism how there is no perfect families, no stereotypes that are what we assume when looking for the murderer, and the murderer/victims aren't always what you assumed and that's what I loved about this show. It really reflects the reality of what can and possibly was or will be. You watch other shows and often they have Hollywood murder, here there's no such thing. It helps that a majority of these episodes are based off of real similar cases too but of course the only fantasy element is the fact that they catch all the murderers or figure them out. Most cases they are based on never found the people responsible.
@@Tigressa101 I agree Cold Case that bring realisism to these's episode's because they're based on real case's some that are still unsolved like u said only part each episode's that is pure fantasy they solved the case and catch the suspect
Ultra great performance from all characters, beautifull camera play and the most creepy murder thatgot stuck with me until now. Every now and then i remember the "churchgoing people". Thats tragic at its peak, this episode is 10/10. Every time i see this scene i got real chills in my spine.
What a horrific scene. The mother more likely had a form of Borderline Personality Disorder, an mood disorder often characterized by irrational hostility, violent mood swings, and possibly psychotic breaks, as evidenced by the rising argument ending in murder. It's exacerbated by alcohol, and since the mother had been drinking, and already felt betrayed, she was simply an emotional time bomb waiting to explode. Also, the later stages can result in dementia, which she developed as time progressed.
Idgaf what her issues were. When someone hurts another person they deserve what ever is coming. She’s lucky her son didn’t leave her to rot in her own shit for what she did.
That's very likely (the Borderline Personality Disorder, I mean). I know someone who has it and Charlotte's tone of voice when she said "He loves me! He loves me! Don't you, Ryan?" made me think of someone who is, deep down, desperate to be loved, like many people with BPD in real life are. That doesn't take away the fact that she is toxic and abusive, but that moment made me feel a bit bad for her.
The mother was drinking and had no right to do that. Everyone has a choice . To kill is a sin. Hatred can really brainwash us but that is the devil trying to get to us. When your angry at someone stop and just hug them. Try and see what happens
This incident may have been symptomatic of Charlotte's dementia in its early form, before she lost a chunk of memory and was wandering through the cemetery with no memory of how her husband died. I have cared for people with dementia, and this is not a surprise at all. Charlotte remembers taking the call, and it impacting greatly on her emotional and psychological state. She blocked out this entire incident, as it conflicted with her core beliefs of non - violence. However, the illness that was in its early stages overruled that and made Charlotte into a killer.
No definitely not. Charlotte was always abusive to her husband which was why he had deadbolt locks on his door already. She always had the murderous selfishness inside her. She doesn’t get a pass on this.
The last part of her rational mind that was left realised what she had just done, and asked Ryan to get the van to stage the crime scene and cover it up.
Toxic, evil, dark, cruel, selfish, abusive, despicable, murderous, violent, Ruthless, heartless, dangerous, horrible and argumentative. How the hell could Mitch fall in love and marry a horrible woman like her.
My late father was also an alcoholic but he would never act this violent and dangerous to my Mom, brother and I. If she was this evil and dark why would Mitch ever marry her?
Maybe at first she wasn't like that, then she changed, but that wasn't said in the story. And added to that, there could have been the fact that they were boyfriend and girlfriend, had sex and she got pregnant, so being so religious, Mitchell decided to marry her before the baby (Ryan, I think, since it seemed like he was the oldest child) was born, but this second part is just a theory of mine.
@@carmensandiego328 That's not what I meant. What I meant was that maybe they were in a relationship, they already didn't get along that well, but she got pregnant so being as religious as they were, they chose to get married and ultimately were "stuck" together.

It makes me laugh so hard when Charlotte says "Judy Enright is cheap Christmas trash" in this scene. The rest of it is sad, obviously, but that insult and the way she says it make me laugh.
Since they're kinda similar(ish) cases, I have a question. For anyone who knows lawsuit and "Omori", can Basil and Sunny be sentenced to house arrest, or would they go to either normal prison or juvey for what they did ? Also, for how long would they be condemmed, if the lawyer used the "neglectful parents" bit ?
You can search “ Cold Case Churchgoing People” but the husband that was killed in this scene was having an affair with a woman from their church. His wife found out and killed him. She and her son dumped his body in an alley used by hookers and drug users. Their daughter never quite believed that her loving father died the way it appeared. The wife later develops dementia and keeps wandering off to the cemetery where her husband is buried and carries his obituary in her housecoat pocket calling for him saying “Poor Mitch, poor Mitch.” Her son is now grown and has to take care of her, living with the secret that he helped his mother dispose of his father’s body and hasn’t been able to have his own life. His sister is not aware that her mother killed their father and the brother/son helped cover it up to protect his mother.
