Wow.. so much energy, this song is amazing! Finally we manage to react to Cold Chisel - Bow River! Hope you like our reaction! More about us on our vlog channel: • DIY VAN CONVERSION #ColdChisel #BowRiver #Reaction
Pre-internet and before the large scale FX laden concerts and DVDs of bands we have today there was "pub rock". Bands like Cold Chisel and so many others cut their teeth playing before seething drunken working class hordes who wanted nothing more than a good time. These "pub rockers" went largly ignored by radio at the time and famously, Chisel refused to appear on our weekly pop TV show where groups mimed their hits to the camera. When they were finally recognised for a local music award, Chisel changed the lyrics of one of their songs for the live performance on TV to take a jab at the industry before smashing up their istruments on stage.
Ian Moss on the guitar, a great singer and songwriter, really the beating heart of Cold Chisel. Pretty sure that's David Blight on the Harmonica, absolutely the star of that performance. Great reaction to that one. Really love seeing you two enjoy some of the music we have been enjoying for years.
I remember seeing the Angels live on a rainy day in New Zealand and a bottle came flying out of the crowd and opened up the scalp on one of the Brewster brothers...The guy didnt miss a note with blood pissing out of his scalp never missed a beat.
Something magical happens when Phil, Steve, Jimmy, Don and Ian play together plus Dave on harmonica. They have a huge catalogue, I hope you get to enjoy it as much as we all do here in Australia. Part of our Aussie pub rock scene that became the soundtrack of our lives.
Never too late to get into Cold Chisel. If you love this, you'll most likely be very satisfied should you decide to go down that rabbit hole 😊 Plenty of great songs to add to your playlist!
So many great Cold Chisel songs.. Saturday Night is my favourite.. also Jimmy Barnes as a solo artist - one of his greats is Working Class Man. I really hope you do more you won’t be disappointed!
You guys popped up due to the algorithm and boy an I glad you did!! Aussie rock is world class, and I'm a Finn living in Australia saying that lol. CC is phenomenal and I'll have to check out who else you reacted to from Down Under. Cheers 🍻
Glad you're discovering one of our greatest Aussie bands 🇦🇺 This song was written and sung by lead guitarist Ian Moss. He and lead singer Jimmy Barmes often shared the vocals in Cold Chisel songs. Don't know what other Chisel tracks you've reacted to, but my favourites are When the War is Over, Flame Trees and Forever Now.
Cold Chisel are just pure perfection. Welcome to the world of Aussie pub rock. So many good Aussie pub rock bands. Would love to see your reaction to "Ice House". And of course more Chisel. Thanks. ✌👏
I love this singer, Ian Moss, even more than Jimmy Barnes. Both are in the band, Cold Chisel. Now if you like the vibe of this song I think that you will enjoy, "Playing To Win," by the incomparable John Farnham. The song is fast-paced and hard-hitting and you will see another side of John's versatile talent.
I still think you need to do the orginal Female of Austrain rock - Chrisy Amphlett (Divinyls) singing 'Boys in Town'' - Do people in the comments agree?
The Divinyls are like the female fronted version of AC/DC in my opinion. I agree with you and I’m not sure which song would make the best introduction, as you suggest, ‘Boys in Town’, or Pleasure and Pain’, or ‘I Touch Myself’… all great. 🙂
Yesss, love love love Cold Chisel. Other songs to check out are Forever Now, You got Nothing I want, Khe Sahn, Flame Trees, Cheap Wine, there are so many. Ian Moss (the magician guitarist) also had a solo career, my favourite song of his is Tuckers Daughter.
Saw these guys many times over the years... but one live give at The Charles Hotel in Perth - Jim nearly blew my eardrums out... he was sooooo powerful... awesome band.. nothing like their live gigs. Thank you again !!
Love your excitement ❤️. Does it fascinate you as much as me and other Australians, that the rest of the world has heard so very little of our musicians and singers, until now?
Phenomenal musicians, phenomenal band. I see the energy from the band and the audience coming through the screen into your eyes almost two decades after they walked off that stage. Stored energy. Extraordinary! Great reaction.
Awesome reaction to a great song. Love you guy's you're reactions are so genuine and heart felt. I thought I'd suggest a song by Mahalia Barnes yes she is Jimmy's daughter the song is Riding with the Kings Mahalia Barnes and Joe Bonamassa.
Ty for yet again visiting our awesome COLD CHISEL, I have seen many many great live bands here in Australia some from overseas but for a fun rock and roll concert nothing beats COLD CHISEL they have become a standard here in Australia sadly a few members have passed but they still reform the band and have fun. Jimmy and Ian Moss get together and have a great time keeping our spirits energy and souls fore filled. Enjoy some other great ones from them you now have entered what it means to be an Aussie. Keep Safe Keep Strong
IAN Moss on GUITAR wrote this song… and also did Lead vocals….. Ian also has a solo career…. You should check out some of his material….. Tuckers Daughter, Out of the Fire, Mr Rain, Broadway, Love rewards it’s own….Australia’s greatest guitar player.
Loved the reaction. Bow River is a river in the northern Western Australia that part of the country being referred to in the song as the Top End. Bow River is where the protagonist of the story is heading for a break from his regular job to just relax and enjoy life for a bit before getting back to the daily grind.
You can tell by the look on Ian's face that he's enjoying himself. Ian Moss is awesome, bothhis voice& guitar playing. He has such a recognisable voice. & then you've got Jimmy & that harmonica is great. All the members of Cold Chisel are fantastic and contribute.
"Bow River" is a stereotyped small outback settlement in Australia's Northern Territory, a huge area (six times the size of the UK but a population of only 246,000 (less than half of Manchester's)) that ranges from a high rainfall, tropical coastline to harsh, dry deserts. Chisel are Australia's greatest rock band, no half measures, always full steam ahead, take no prisoners. I first saw them in 1974, a few months after they formed in 1973. They have split and re-formed a few times over the years but they have maintained their ethos. This song was written by the pianist, Don Walker, the main songwriter for the band. It contains bits about the guitarist Ian Moss (who is from the Northern Territory, referenced in the song as the "top end") and the lead singer Jimmy Barnes (who worked in a car factory in Adelaide for a while and quit, just like in the song). There are plenty of great songs from the band and there is variety, including some ballads.
I love seeing the live versions of these classics!! If you want to see some great harmonica action by an Australian band check out "The Waifs" 'Crazy Train' is one of their best.
For classic Aussie 80's please try Busting loose by moving pictures. 1981 and 16 years old on the northern beaches of Sydney the song captures it perfectly.
Okay - I just had to laugh when you said "well I'm happy"!! And then you came out with "crikey" and I though - bonus points for you!!!! One of my favourite Chisel songs, the others are - You Got Nothin' I Want, Forever Now, Flame Trees & Cheap Wine.... oh and Shipping Steel.
So many great Cold Chisel songs. Breakfast At Sweethearts. Khe Sahn. The Khe Sahn version at this concert is incredible. There are three Bow River's in Australia, plus one in Canada, and one in Ireland. This song is about the Bow River in the Kimberley region of Western Australia that flows into Lake Argyle. Bow River Mine is a diamond mine near the river.
You should react to Ian Moss the singer of this song, who is supported by Jimmy Barnes, a great guitarist, and signer on his own. Ian Moss - Tucker's Daughter great song.
The reason why Dominika likes this one so much (I'll guess) is very likely the same reason I do. The best Cold Chisel songs are the ones that feature Ian Moss (guitarist) and Jimmy on lead vocals. Their voices, so different, yet so complementary. With that in mind, other songs that have the smooth Moss intro and then the "Jimmy kick" - When the War is Over, Saturday Night, Janelle (Last Stand, 1983).
You guys are fun! And they are sooo great and I’m glad you enjoyed it 🥰👍. They are so fantastic and they have so many different styles of songs - I would recommend you checking even more out - LEGENDS! inAustralia - we looove them. I live in Canada now - was home just recently - and I have a Barnsey screaming alarm clock. 🤣🤣🤣 you don’t wanted be jolted awake by that 😳😬🤣🤣🤣🤣. My mother never understood why I loved him and him - she’d say he’s just screaming! 😂 Isn’t that art of it 🤣. Anyway love you guys and your reactions ... keep it coming .... from a huge fan 🥰❤️💕💋💋
Another lovely reaction 🥰 . As you are probably coming to understand Australian musicians are are very close knit group , working with each other and don’t suffer from the ‘ BIG EGOS ‘ that other overseas artist display. The music , providing quality entertainment and most importantly ENJOYING themselves is what it is all about. 🤗🤗
Nice reaction 'guys' 👍🙂 Been watching your channel for a few months now & could tell when you first did Barnsey that your wife really liked his voice. Chisel were the mainstay of Oz music throughout the 80s +. Fine fine players with Jimmy Upfront...solid stuff! Aussie bands are known for great Live shows...as they all did the pub scene as their 'apprenticeship'. 🇦🇺 ✌️♥️ Keep em coming
Hey you two, this is the first video of yours I've seen. I love that you enjoy it! This song was released in 1982. This is maybe a 1990's version, a good one, but in your own time go back to original version or an eighties live performance - it'll be better again, trust me. Also listen to 'Letter to Alan', bow river and 'You got nothing I want' all from the 'Circus Animals' album - check it out!!
Love this! Great reaction. I believe the song is (basically) about a guy stuck working in the city & wants to get back to Bow River, a small town in the Kimberley region of Northwestern Australia, to live a better life with the heat & tropical rain. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong ✌🏼
Every Cold Chisel song is excellent, from their hard rocking ones to their ballads. They are great live too. I subscribed because you are doing Cold Chisel. I'm another fan from Australia. All members of Cold Chisel wrote songs. The harmonica player, David Blight was not a regular member of the band but did play with them a lot live.
Love your reaction !! Years ago when Cold Chisel disbanded, they went on an Australian tour, I went to a concert in Adelaide, Australia, they ROCKED !!! the Thebarton Theatre where they played, I didn't hear dry well for a few days and lost my voice. Huge fan of Jimmy and Cold Chisel, they do tour from time to time. They started out in my home town. I'm a young 70 year old, still rock out now. Ian Moss is the guitar player you were talking about, he's a hell of a musician. Take Care. 🦘🐨🦘🐨🦘🐨🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Hi Guys, love your reactions. Can I suggest you react to DMA's cover of a Crowded House song, Better be Home Soon. DMA's is an underrated Australian band and the lead singer Tommy has an amazing voice. Cheers and keep up the reactions
