When Cold Chisel reunited and got together to rehearse after many, many years apart Jimmy Barnes said: "After five minutes together we were all wondering why we ever broke up. And after an hour we remembered."

The keyboard player here, Don Walker, has to be close to the best Australian rock music songwriter there is. No Don Walker equals no Cold Chisel, imho.

Mr modern Renaissance Man, I would love to hear your reaction to the "Star Hotel" by Cold Chisel. This is a song about a riot that happened when a pub closed down and on the final night the police arrived early and told everyone to leave. The Star Hotel was in Newcastle which at the time was a very blue collar, steel and coal city. One thing you never do in Australia is cut off the beer. SO when the police did just that, there was a riot. It really was just an effect of the times. Low wages, poor working conditions, etc. The blue collar worker struggling to just pay the bills and then they cut off the beer. Silly mistake.

This video just might mean I'm no longer the only American who listens to Cold Chisel.

This is an Aussie band, no 4th of July over here. This is just classic Aussie rock, we only have 24 million people over her and we are a young country, this is good Aussie music just because it is!

This band is around 45 years old and they kick more ass then artist today.

G'Day, this is a great song, "Jimmy Barnes" is the soul of "Cold Chisel", and two of their best songs are "Khe Sahn" and "Working Class Man". I left home at 22, moved to Cairns in North Queensland. "Cold Chisel", were at their peak, at the same time I was."Working Class Man" showed scenes of sugar cane burning and harvesting from North Queensland.

When recording our song in 1993, Chris the harmonica player wandered into our studio "zone" and gave some amazing feedback that lifted our spirits and left us starstruck. Chisel themselves are huge legends and have aged nicely. $0.02

Saw these guys live in 83 in my local pub - I was 18 and they were at their peak. They are a big part of my youth and I raised my kids on them, AC/DC (with Bon out front), Noiseworks, Models, Icehouse etc. Gotta raise them right!

At the risk of sounding like an old fart, music was better when it didn't matter when a musician was ugly as a hat full of arseholes. Cold Chisel/Jimmy Barnes is the ice that runs through your veins then turns to steel that pumps your heart full with ochre red liquid. A top drop if you're a vampire.

The thing with aussies rock n roll bands your not a true aussie if you dont know all the words to certain songs. The bands and songs we like may not be well know in america or overseas. But to a lot of us aussies certain songs are the soundtrack to our lives. If your in a pub or just hanging with mates having a beer everyone knows the words we will all sing along. Just how us aussies roll.

I was lucky and caught the guitarist singer, Ian Moss at an intimate show in a restaurant and it was really good.

First heard this and it was wow!,and it never ever gets old.

Classic. One of my favourite songs of all time. First heard it as a kid playing my dad's records, loved it ever since. For me it embodies a working class man who dreams of kicking back in the country but is stuck in a factory job in a dead end town, his plans of being back in Bow River fading into fantasy as he's "pissing all his money up against the damn wall". Where have I been all their life?

The GREATEST Aussie Rock band. Unknown or under appreciated internationally. They have a number of songs that are unofficial national anthems. No pretense, no BS just straight at you and still delivering the business 47 years later. I first saw them in Adelaide in 1975 just after Jimmy Barnes joined and was an immediate convert. Not just elemental rock but great social comment and observation in many of Don Walker's lyrics. Like a fine wine or a classic car, never out of fashion or out of place.

I have never heard of them. Loved the harmonica....my grandmother was really good on the harmonica, too. I remember her playing when I was very young.

For me it reminds me of catching the north coast mail train on a Friday night beginning of the school holidays heading to Coffs Harbour in 1980. That train was a party.

The thing that made Cold Chisel so popular is apart from being dam good, they sung about everyday Australians and everyday situations which meant people could relate to their songs.

Funny to see all the different reactors to this one. This band filled with elite musicians. (Don’t think you quite caught this one. )

Like most Australians bands these guys did the Pub Circuit, playing a different Pub every night usually travelling in a van packed with all their gear. AC/DC, Midnight Oil and many others and many became world wide phenoniums.

Cold Chisel when I was 27 with my Mum and my best friend Jimmy Barnes live when I was 29 😵 Foo Fighters at Brisbane Entertainment Center... Wow bajibbers wow... Dave Grohl spoke with me.... It was orgasmic 😎

This song came out when Australia, like most of the western world, was suffering inflation and unemployment. Many of cold chisels themes were about youth dissatisfaction.

I remember going to see Cold Chisel at a Uni bar in the early 80’s they were amazing. It was my first time hearing them play. We have some amazing bands from that era. We were the luckiest generation with the musicians we were privileged to hear back then and all this time past the music is still fabulous. RIP Michael Gudinsky, Australian music legend.

Cold Chisel are just the soundtrack to our lives, but l do think it's very difficult for a non Aussie to fully appreciate Aussie pub rock. It just really doesn't translate or compare well to anything else. Farnham is different, he has that broad appeal, but Chisel, no sorry, they're ours.

This is twenty years past the band's prime. The only time I was able to see Chisel live was 1983, on The Last Stand tour. When they broke up. .. The 1983 Bow River is the lads at the peak of their power. This is very good, but they're older, and struggling ever so slightly with those vocals... Just for your information sir. Cold Chisel broke up in 1983, and in spite of being offered massive amounts of money, they never took the bait. In 1997, just because they wanted to, they recorded The Last Wave Of Summer album. In 2003 when this was done they just decided they wanted to do a tour.... The balance off us, that in 1983 they had been playing 250-300 gigs a year for about ten years... it makes a difference. In 2012 they got together again and have since recorded more albums and done tours... the last album being recorded was Blood Moon in 2019. The bands peak is the trilogy of studio albums - East - Circus Animals and 20th Century, accented nicely by the two live sets, Swingshift and Barking Spiders live 1983. In recent years we have had the blessing of The Live Tapes series, with classic concerts on cd and dvd. I think you may like "It Ain't Wrong", which never even made it onto a studio album at the time. God bless brother
