Omg brilliant choice Rory!!! This song is etched into the DNA of every Australian- if you were to blast this on at any pub in London you’d find every Aussie within a 5km radius singing it at the top of their lungs. Chisel did some awesome performances in the late ‘70s, definitely a wombat burrow worth exploring.

“Khe Sanh” is an anthem in Australia. Bit like “American Pie” or “Hotel California” - it’s one of those songs that comes on at the end of the night at a party or a pub and everyone stands arm in arm and sings along at full voice. Absolute classic.

I seen grown men put their hand on their heart like it's the national anthem, well not ours coz ours is offensive to play & sing our national anthem these days 🙄 but could u see this song being played at the Olympics after winning a gold medal at the medal ceremony? I actually could tbh with a host of other Aussie songs that could pass as our national anthem lol

Young? We were all young😂😂 I was only 16!!! So he would've been 22/23!!😮😮 He's 67 now and just got out of hospital, from hip surgery. Yes, they were such a top band. 'Khe Sahn' is a classic song, known by everyone here, whether you're a Chisel fan, or not. Now you have to listen to 'Breakfast at Sweethearts'❤❤ Roll on November, I can't wait 👍👍👍👍👍👍❤🇭🇲

First single, off their first album and I dare say this was their first time on TV. Absolute anthem that is still sung along to with eyes closed and voices raised. Another gem, amongst so many to hit is 'Four Walls' - superb songwriting.

Glad you like Cold Chisel. They are probably 'the" Aussie (pub) band and many of their songs are classics - although Khe Sanh is probably the most iconic of them. As said below: " etched into the DNA of every Australian". Such a talented band. They all wrote songs. To mention just a few, Khe Sanh was by the pianist Dan Walker. He also co-wrote Flame Trees with the drummer Steve Prestwich. Ian Moss wrote Bow River. Jimmy wrote You've got nothing I Want. My Baby by bass Phil Small. There were so many good pub bands around during the 70s, 80s and 90s. We were blessed. We didn't know how lucky we were. Almost any night of the week you could go out and catch a great act. I was fortunate enough to see probably every single one in a small venue before they graduated to the larger stadiums. The crowds could be anything from 50 to 250 people and the atmosphere and energy was amazing,

@kayelle8005 Not to mention Midnight Oil, Hoodoo Gurus, Painters and Dockers,The Black Sorrows, Weddings, Parties Anything and Cosmic Psychos. Even John Farnham was a great performer if not exactly in the pub rock style.

The line is 'nothing like the kisses from a JADED Chinese princess'. It was the line about their legs being open and the drug references that got them banned.

Yep (nearly) all early Aussie bands cut their teeth on the pub rock circuit. Sad that it has almost disappeared in this country because of converting pubs to the yuppies and the pokies and just changing wants… a few pubs have transitioned back and seem to be doing well so who knows - but probably just like people who buy vinyl still in the face of streaming

Oh yeah, if you’re talking genre, Cold zchisel is pub rock for sure, even though they bring in influences from all over the place. First record was quite jazzy, Breakfast At Sweethearts has a touch of Jamaican reggae, they did a lot of working class anthems, and yet also the lingering slow sweet Jaenelle. For something really poignant and different, Jimmy Barnes singing Chandelier by Sia. The lyrics are haunting when you know how alcoholic Barnsey used to be and how sober he is keeping himself now.

People dont realise, this is a country song! Still good though. Check out No Sense, Don't Let Go, Good Bye Astrid, or, they played at the Star Hotel the last night, then it closed down, which caused a riot in Newcastle ( jus south of Sydney. They recorded a dong about it called Star Hotel, also a banger!

Hey, Rory. Do you just react, or actually listen to music? It's clear that you love Chisel. I suggest you purchase their first five or six albums, in whatever format is available, and enjoy ALL of their work. No need to tell Australians, and best kept warm in your heart. Cheers, from somebody who was there.....
