Ian Moss! One of the most underrated singers in Australia only because he’s in a band with Jimmy is singing and he’s amazing! Knew you’d love this one!
Everyone always mentions Barnsey and Mossy, while seemingly forgetting that Don Walker (Cold Chisel keyboardist) is one of Australia's greatest songwriters. He wrote more of Cold Chisels hits than the rest of the band combined. This is just a sample of his work.
Fun fact. The footage for this film clip was taken during the first ever Mardi Gras in Sydney. Which was actually a protest against how the police were treating their community. This seminal moment of our history is now preserved in song.
"Controversial but I think this is my favourite Cold Chisel song". With that statement Dom I think every Aussie Cold Chisel fan cheered in support. It's a bit like Led Zeppelin fans shuddering at people saying "Stairway to Heaven is my favourite Led Zep song". My guess is you'll be able to walk into any bar in Australia and never have to buy your own beer! 🇦🇺🤘
I think us Aussie's all have diff fave Chisel songs. For instance I'm a Forever Now, Flame Tree's & Bow River girl. When it comes to Chisel there's no wrong answer on what their best song is & who's fave song is what. We are just so spoilt for choice when it comes to Chisel. I think the best part about Chisel is they aren't defined to one generation. Usually as kids we find everything about our parents uncool even down to their choice of music except for Chisel. Chisel spoke to everyone no matter the age with no generation gap
Anything Mossy did was awesome, this track not even close to the best track on the album 20th Century. Janelle is my favourite and wasn't even a single.
Mossy is a legend in his own right! What a voice ! And he can play that guitar like no other!.. Definitely check out My turn to cry.. and Merry go round
Have you ever heard the Hoodoo Gurus? I think you'd dig their music😃 another great Aussie band. The best most fun concert I ever went to was the Hoodoo Gurus😃😃🎶👣🦘🌊🇦🇺😊😊😊😊
Sitting here in my Chisel t-shirt hearing “I think this might be my favourite Cold Chisel song” and thinking… yep, that’s fair. On the other hand, if I’m listening to a Chisel album, I probably have that thought each time a new track starts
Cold Chisel is one of the most underrated bands ever.... And you are forgetting Don Walker the pianist/keyboardist who wrote and arranged most of their songs.... Don was a genius....
This song brings me back to my youth, cruising the streets of Kings Cross in Sydney, where this song is based. If you liked this one, wait til l you hear Mossy and Barnesy in Bow River!!
Yeah nah mate me too but i was about 20yrs too late, i did go clubbing in the Cross most of my 20's & 30's. It's not the same anymore & way more dangerous
I love Jimmy, but Ian Moss is my fave voice. Tuckers Daughter, Bow River, etc. superb. 🥰🥰. You have done a wonderful job, considering your illness and loss of a loved one. Thank you xx
Have you heard Mossy doing Flame Trees on his solo album? That's a killer rendition. He does a great Choir Boy on that album too. You probably already know this if you're a Mossy fan though!
I can remember walking around on a Saturday night with my friends as we decided what venue we would go to next & hearing this song emanating from various clubs & bars as we passed by. My youth was fantastic.
Mossy is the other singer. Ian Moss is a legend in his own right. One of the absolute best live performers in any location. I've seen him in tiny little dive bars and at huge outdoor festivals and the man always gives his all.
You’re obvious love for the band is so incredible. I too constantly change my mind about which song is my favourite. I do love when Barnsey and Ian Moss sing together. “Bow River” is such perfection!
I have always loved this.. the "do do do, do do do do" under the "Saturday night" at the start and it echoed during the song with the sax Moss's & Jimmy's voices together...great memories 😊
I've introduced you to my 72yr old mum, she loved your reactions as I do. Good to see you're getting back to your old self. Cold chisel..well what can I say, they were my teenage life :)
Nick, I'm re-loving the sound tack of my teens with you bringing all this classic Chisel and Aussie rock.Your reactions to this were poigniant.. I love watching chisel bring new surprises. All the albums do the same thing... you hear new music, new vibe in every session they record. _ Adam
Dude, I feel you. Your reactions are on point. I feel like you're just a bro hanging out on the lounge with me watching some cool music. I did sound and lighting for the best Cold Chisel tribute band in Australia and I never got tired of these songs.
You definitely felt this song 💯💯💯 The man scatting at the beginning is Ian Moss. Be prepared when you hear him in his solo career. Songs of his I would recommend is “Tucker’s daughter” Telephone booth” and my personal favourite “Out of the fire” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The vocals are shared between Ian Moss and Jimmy Barnes. Don Walker (who wrote it) has said of the song, "The band I'd been in for ten years was breaking up. I think it's just a 'kissing all that goodbye and moving on into the unknown' song."
I don't know if it's possible to have a favourite Cold Chisel song... :) There's just too many awesome ones. Shipping Steel would be up there with this one, and Flame Trees, and Bow River... Khe Sahn... Ita... :) Too many!
Yes, the other guy singing is Ian Moss, who is the guitarist. Mossy also sang on Bow River and had his own independent hit with Tuckers Daughter. Glad you like it.
@@jaynekittycat9252 here’s a couple worth listening too: 1. AC/DC 2. INXS 3. Cold Chisel 4. Midnight Oil 5. Crowded House 6. The Bee Gees 7. The Divinyls 8. Silverchair 9. The Easybeats 10. You Am I 11. Little River Band 12. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds 13. Powderfinger 14. Paul Kelly and the Coloured Girls/The Dots/The Messengers 15. The Church 16. The Presets 17. Savage Garden 18. Dragon 19. Skyhooks 20. The Living end 21. Icehouse 22. Tame Impala 23. The Loved Ones 24. The Saints 25. Empire of the Sun 26. Hunters and Collectors 27. Noiseworks And this list could go on…….
I don't know about AC/DC 62, there more Heavy Metal. Crowded House are good. Men at work I like as well. But INXS all the way for me. That John Farnham I watched recently, apparently he is a Aussie Icon. Jimmy Barnes, and Jon Stevens are good. In England, we have lost 3 music icons. Freddy Mercury, David Bowie, and George Michael. If someone said to me what Country besides England would you live, it would be Australia 🇦🇺 , beautiful Country. Love the accent. Love to all you lovely Aussies. ❤
Spot on. This shows Chisels song writing ability, Ians and Barnseys voices, the bands talent and diversity, what a song! Thanks bro for loving our bands.
I saw Ian Moss live a few years ago and man he’s still got it! My 2 fave chisel songs are flame trees and bow river. Thank you for reacting to so much Australian music!!
Good to see you back Nick! We all go through tough times at some point in our lives and it really takes a toll emotionally and physically. Stay strong brother and thanks for another great reaction.
Hello friend! My name's Craig, from Australia. I grew up loving Cold Chisel and saw them live about 3 times (in the 80s). I think they are such a real band, their songs are from their lives,, and our lives as Aussies, plus they made timeless music. If you want to communicate about Cold Chisel, get in touch. I actually met Jimmy and Ian and shook their hands after a concert in Brisbane 1982. You said - "They don 't make bad songs." It was the time of albums, and I reckon "Circus Animals" is among the best.
so glad you did this one Nick. It is one of my favourite Cold Chisel tunes as it is just solid back. The singer was Ian Moss... the guitarist who sings when the war is over....... keep peeling back that onion skin that is the music of cold chisel.....
"well if you don't like it, why are you standing there watching it for 20mins" love the typical pub talk at the start of the song, really puts you in the setting of a pub with a live band.
'I can feel my luck, I've got two days money, if you lock me up, this hope will shine on' Jimmy's opening salvo after Ian Moss sings the intro, then follows those haunting Barnes/Moss harmonies they are so well known for.
I lived in a few places around Darlinghurst in Sydney near The Cross back in the 80s when I was about your age. I spent a lot of time in clubs, live venues & cafes around the Cross every week. The music captures that grungy, seedy yet alluring feeling the place had.
Saturday Night has to be one of the most sonically nuanced and rich Chisel songs there is. Don Walkers keyboard shimmers up and down the scale chromatically and Mossey's guitar just chimes in at all the right times. Great stuff.
Saw Mossy do this in Bathurst NSW Australia with just an acoustic guitar. A woman in the crowd tried to sing the “do do dooo” bit but was so off key that Mossy just stopped and started laughing. He started again and asked her to keep quiet, with a smile on his face. Great video. Also the video takes place in Kings Cross, Sydney’s red light district. The voices are real bouncers recorded out the front of the strip clubs.
As a teenager in the ‘80s, this is what reeled me in and introduced me to Cold Chisel and their complete catalogue that I have kept with me for life. LOVE IT!
I love this song because it brings back so many good memories of the Saturday night culture. Like the song says a the beginning "Saturday nights already gone" because you would all meet up at a mates place round 8 ish have some drinks to get primed. Being young not much money it was cheaper to drink at home first. Then call taxi's go to a clubs and it's 11, 11.30 before you even get there. So the nights already gone. Then go for it until closing at 5 am. Then it's "breakfast at sweethearts" . And stagger home. Good times my friend.
May Creator Bless you and my deepest condolences regarding your father! 🌿🌻🌿🙏🏽🌿🌻🌿 👵🏽👋🏾🇺🇸🍃🦬🍃 Respect for being with us despite an apparently very difficult time 🪶💧🪶💧🪶💧🪶
Original Chisel - is authentic and just so listenable to. SO enjoyable, and yup Ian Moss made Chisel the unique sound with Jimmy combined. Whatyou guys have missed out on all these years...glad youve got something to enjoy in these sad days ATM!
I remember hearing this on the radio when I was a kid and just stopped what I was doing to listen to it. I was instantly in love with it. It’s a cracking song.
The soundbites of the 80's city nightlife are gold. How's the typical Aussie dude at the beginning berating someone for complaining, "Well if you don't like it, why've you been standin' there for twenty minutes watching for?" Your reactions to classic Australian pub rock are my favourite - loved watching your face in this :)
Cold Chisel has a Dual Attack Vocal…. Jimmy Barnes and the beautiful smooth vocals of Ian Moss…..you need to check out more of Mossy’s Chisel vocals plus his own Solo Career…..Love rewards it’s own, Broadway are two newer Ian Moss songs …. Plus Ian is working on a New Album hopefully due in 2022.
