Hey Jesse in the late seventies I swapped from bass to drums and Steve was one of my greatest influences - analysed him every gig. This was pretty easy as I developed a bit of a friendship with the band in the mid seventies and am pretty sure I saw every gig they played in Melbourne and can remember when some had an audience that could be counted on two hands. Steve was a great guy and funny as. But also a very stylish drummer and a great songwriter. Also credit must always go to Phil as well as a rock and roll bass player -a freaking steam train

You were truly amazed at this performance, but that was one song out of one concert out of one tour. Jimmy, Mossy, Steve, Phil and Don did this EVERY NIGHT for multiple nights in a row, amazing audiences all across Australia. Yes, we are blessed here in Australia to have grown up with Cold Chisel, AC/DC, INXS, the Angels, John Farnham etc etc, the list goes on.

Saw the concert for this tour in Townsville. We were always up the front near the stage for concerts & it was wild!.They were always amazing. I was in my teens through the late 70s & into the 80s & it was an incredible time for live music in Aus. I moved to Sydney & the live music scene in the pubs was unbelievably good. Love this! And what you’re doing for Australian music by showing everyone how great it is and WHY it’s great. After over a year and a half of lockdowns the live music scene is on it’s knees and so many of our artists are dependent on live performance for their bread and butter. One reason why they’re great is live performance. These guys are our legends, but there’s a whole new generation of musicians that need to be heard more widely so people get behind them and support them. I’m going to send you some more contemporary suggestions. And no, Wild thing is not Cold Chisel’s song but this is way the best cover version ever!!!!!!
@NeilBlanco
@NeilBlanco 2 года назад
Hey Nick! The guitarist in Cold Chisel is Ian Moss. I think you might have reacted to a version of Georgia that he does. His voice is so smooth and the perfect contrast to Jimmy's power. Cold Chisel were the best Australian band in my opinion. RIP Steve Prestwich (the drummer)...
@80sOGRE
@80sOGRE 2 года назад
The guitarist is Ian Moss. Both him and Jimmy share lead vocal duties in Cold Chisel. Moss like Barnes went on to have some solo chart success with some very nice pop / rock tunes in the mid - late 80s. The Cold Chisel song pile of awesomeness is A MUST. and you haven't yet gotten into their most well known and loved tunes yet.
@Ulbre
@Ulbre 2 года назад
I wouldn't say they share lead vocalist duties....Jimmy is definitely the lead vocalist. Ian Moss has such an amazing voice that totally compliments Jimmy's singing...and enhances each song.......all through the brilliance of Don Walker's music writing (although each band member also wrote their share of great songs). Best band ever is Cold Chisel

Just look at the fact this is towards the end of the concert. So he’s been singing like this all night and still is flawless power. Also, his drinking cup is probably full of vodka. I've watched several reactions to this clip, and you are the only ones that seem to get it. Cold Chisel was never the band that shunned their fans. They walked the streets with them, they drank at the same pubs and bars, they partied with them after the show. Cold Chisel songs and performances are about normal everyday life in Australia [at the time] and about the struggle to get somewhere better while chained down in the 40hr working class. Jimmy has since described their shows as an opportunity to let go and not worry about everything for a while. This clip is part of Cold Chisel's Last Stand tour. They went on a long tour to farewell as they were breaking up and there is a concert video created from the last 4 nights in Sydney.

I always think and this is my personal opinion, that although AC DC is Australia's biggest band, Cold Chisel is probably the best band Australia as had. They have a line up that could play all different styles of music, soul, gospel, ballads rock and roll, blues, whatever. I could never see AC DC singing river deep mountain high. Chisel had the versatilty. They can perform everything

They really don't have any bad songs. Don Walker (the piano player) is such a great songwriter and the rest of the band all dabbled in songwriting too. The guy grabbing Jimmy was from security... which is why Jimmy was telling him to fuck off! I worked as a stage sound ( foldback) technician in my younger days... had lots of singers wanting me to make them sound good to themselves. I always told them that I can't make them sound good, I only can make hear, to themselves how they actually are singing. I refused to ever use "effects" on stage monitors. I fucking love your descriptions of what it is to sing, and to have the ability to do it well. Cheers Bro.

Jimmy is awesome. Cold Chisel is next level. Doesn’t matter what Jimmy does if its solo or with Cold chisel it’s always 110%. Look at another of their live albums, The Barking Spiders Live it’s brilliant. As for Mossy he would be one of the best guitarist around, if you like acoustic check out he’s album 6 strings does a few covers it’s brilliant. Cold Chisel is Australian royalty. Don walker one of if not the best Australian song writer ever. There song Khe Sahn is more of a National anthem then the anthem itself. Cold Chisel Rock👌

I’m spoiled rotten! Seen him live like this so many times, back in the day, like way back. My friends and I were drinking the same energy drink as Jimmy was here in Adelaide, it was awesome, seriously.it would get rough sometimes. Love it !!🙆‍♂️

It was pub rock. Jimmy was usually off his head. Fans loved it when he jumped in. Always 💕

I watch music reaction videos like yours (and other singers) do deepen my appreciation of music (of all 'genres'). Listening to credible people with knowledge of a subject that I know little about does NOT make me an expert does does broaden and deepen my appreciation of those things. Keep on sharing your knowledge, and giving your opinions, to help the musically ungifted such as myself enjoy the astonishing talents of musicians!!!

I saw somewhere that Jimmy has a one in a billlion vocal cord defect where he can control his secondary vocal cords which are the muscles outside your main vocal cords and he can use them to produce controlled tone where 99.9% of human beings can't

the fact that jimmy was usually already drunk on hard liquor before he even got on stage at this particular period of his life and was still pitch perfect every single time is a testament to his skill and natural talent and puts him in yet another league of his own. i’ve never seen anyone else who can do that

That Guitarist is Ian Moss. Great player and great vocalist. Had a few hits solo in Australia. Fantastic live act.

TSR You do have a great voice! I'd like to hear more of it. Jimmy was great in this (although given the "crowd participation" he may have had a little bit to drink), AND how good was Mossy's guitar???

We have the best artists. You should check out Daryl Braithwaite. Daryl has so many songs. In the 70s he was lead vocalist in a group called Sherbet who had many hits as well.

Hi Mate, Barnsey was what rock music was all about in Australia early 80s. Another vocolust to look at was Johnny O'Keeffe. Circa 55 to to 76. Good onya for paying this attention to Australian rock music.
