Welcome to Schony747 Trains on Sunday. There is no Sunday fast 4 today as I was out filming at the Victorian Goldfields Railway.
Todays video is very short but well worth looking at. I captured V/Line Passenger A66's cold startup at Castlemaine railway station this afternoon. A66 and Y127 arrived from Melbourne the night before and A66 sat around for 12 hours before returning to Melbourne this afternoon. If you enjoy the video, hot the like button and smash the bell for weekly update on Schony747.
Have a great week - Brenden S.

And to think these original B Class were intoduced 70 years ago next year, 1952! A66 was the VR Bicentennial-liveried loco. Green and gold in 1988.

@@Schony747 A lot of the cold start videos I've seen are well below freezing. This looked a touch wamer than that, which probably helped.

Does it have a small donkey engine to start it? Compressed air?
@ryandavis7593
@ryandavis7593 2 года назад
It has two large starter motors. The can be either thirty two volt in series or sixty four volts in parallel. They are about eighteen inches long and eight inches in diameter. The also weigh about ninety pounds. Please don’t ask for metric as I don’t have those numbers off the top of my head. Some locomotives have air starters. The older straight DC units had generator start utilizing the main generator as a starter motor. I work on the same American class of locomotive, the SD40-2 as a composite mechanic. The SD and GP40-2 are among the best built locomotives of all time. Greetings from the high plains of Texas.
@jandlpearson
@jandlpearson 2 года назад
@@ryandavis7593 she's closer to an SD39-2, only a 12 cylinder after having the 16 cylinder 567 removed and upgraded. Unfortunately I can't post the photo I have of the starter motor set up as the heritage group I'm in has one to restore.
