Winter is here, and it is time to embrace the cold with some ice swimming.
This is a sport that Finns and some other cultures practice during the winter. Some people in Russia do it even at -50 °C. Can you imagine?
Would you love to try it!? Let me know in your comments below.

This girl is a real trooper! Straight in to frozen lake, no hesitation. I respect that 💪

That is quite a compliment! But I humbly disagree; I would have to learn your language and learn more about your beautiful culture.

Since youtube decided to recommend me your videos seemingly out of nowhere, I gave them a chance. I really liked your comparison between being overwhelmed by the cold water and life in general. Also enjoyed the couple older videos about nature/foraging.

I ice swim from time to time and usually combined with sauna. I think it's great that you found this hobby. Finnish climate is what it is and the best thing to do is to embrace it, if someone needs summer temperatures to get outside then I can only recommend moving elsewhere.

I did this 3 winters ago for a couple months, it became too much work to keep the hole in the lake open though so I quit. You covered it in the video, it becomes genuinely addicting, and after the first couple times it really isn't hard to just go in the water. (Not having done it in three years I would have to really work up to it now) I'll get back to it once I buy a proper ice saw.

Ice swimming. is a nice hobby. improves the quality of sleep a lot on swimming days. the winter frosts don't seem so hard. when summer comes and I've been swimming all winter, I got a strange feeling, it always felt like it was constantly hot, even though the temperature outside was only around +17. the water also felt too warm, that's when I really wish the water was colder

The funny thing is, when it's cold enough, the water feels warmer than the air and you want to go back down.

It is so funny that you want to put your hands in the water instead of the air. And the water is so cold!

for me that coldness gives such a shock that it feels also mentally shock and it is a big one. then when i get these normal life mentally shocks they feel less big ones, so i can coop with them better. it is like a small near death experiment and you look life differently each day after cold plunge. just do it, you wont regret it. small price (90seconds) pain for over 23 hours relief

I´ve never been colder than 6 celsius water. Even that i live in Finland. I live next to lake and about 2-3km from my apartment is place to do that. There is also sauna at the shore. It is popular place here in Tampere. I just can´t ever do that. I hate cold and i rather not even go outside if i really don´t need to. I have bad habbit of smoking small cigars so i have to go outside no matter how cold it is and i have taken small walks even when it´s been over -30 outside. As i were younger i used to have job in harbor area at sea coast. Damn it were cold to work sometimes at winter. I remember one week that it were -29 to -32 from monday to friday and at saturday were -25 and sun shined outside. It felt so warm after those colder days 😄.

NIce! How about sauna culture? Do they do the sauna in tandem with the ice swiming?

Absolutely! Unfortunately, in my swimming club, there is not a sauna. However, this is very common in saunas next to the lake or sea.

By ice swimming you probably mean swimming in water with an ice cover. This usually means that the air is clearly colder than water and of course snow is also colder. It is more common to go from sauna to roll in snow and back. You don't need to have a lake and make a big hole in the ice. If you have a private sauna, as many in Finland do, you're still less likely to have it at a lake shore and time to maintain a hole in ice. So it's not so common that just rolling in snow. But that again requires the right snow conditions to be enjoyable. It better be fresh and soft new snow.

Nice video but your volume level is all over. You need to edit volume levels to reasonable level.
