It really makes sense for runners. World class runners have been soaking in ice water for years for recovery from races & hard workouts. It helps reduce inflammation & soreness. But now that I know of the other benefits mentioned in this video I will start doing this myself.

I love cold showers. I started about three weeks ago and have never looked back. An added benefit is the cold weather seems less cold now. It really has been a pick me up. I find myself running longer, doing more, and feeling less fatigued during the day.

Tell me, please, did it have any effect on muscle growth? Because research is often cited, which indicates that a cold shower after training stops protein synthesis, as a result of which muscles are destroyed and are not restored .

My happiest and best self involved a lot of self-care that felt easy at the time (and feels difficult now)! One of the things I did when I felt my greatest? I took a lightly warm shower and ended it on cold for about a minute. I believe the benefits of this looking back at the clues of what made me click.

Recently, I've been running somewhere between 4-5 miles then jumped in freezing cold lake for a swim afterwards (right now it is about 35-38F degrees). I have always been scared of cold but the experience was phenomenal. I didn't feel cold at all after my body is so warmed up. And when I got out of the water, I feel more alive than ever before. It's a new addiction now. Run in freezing temperatures and then go for a polar bear plunge! What a way to end a workout.

Thank you for the information. You really explain the sciences and the benefits of cold showers clearly. Most people shower everyday. I generally work out 4 days per week. I understand doing the cold shower after the workout. Can the 3 off days be a normal, nice hot water shower?? Got be honest, the hot water shower feels really nice...

Thank you for sharing all this. I have a few questions, hope you can help me by answering some. Would you recommend a cold shower in the morning to start the day or straight after a run to cool the body down? Is it effective if I just expose my head at the end of a hot shower or it needs to be the whole body? And how would you deal with not getting a cold in winter days? Wouldn't I ruin the effect if I use a hair dryer straight after? Thanks!
@TheRunExperience
@TheRunExperience 2 года назад
Great questions! You can use a cold shower for both a morning routine to boost wellness (immune system benefits, thermogenic reaction, and dopamine release) and after a run for recovery + wellbeing benefits. It’s better to expose the entire body if you want greater benefits. There is research to show that cold exposure improves immunity so reduces the chance of catching a cold. Using a hairdryer won’t negate too much of the body’s rewarming so won’t ruin most of the cold shower benefits. Thanks for watching. Be sure to check out the 7 day cold shower challenge and the follow up video in early August.

Hello! I've been watching many videos on cold exposure but can't seem to figure out what the best time to do it is. Would you recommend to do it before or after workout? If after, how many minutes after? (We have a folk illness here in my country called pasma and you supposedly get it when you expose your body to cold water or just water after intensive chores or physical activities such as a workout. I really would like to try this but that's one thing that's holding me back. All these years, I've only ever done room temp or warm water shower after workout.) Thank you in advance for your response.

A cold shower first thing in the morning to prime your day or after a work out are both beneficial. An ice bath following a workout isn’t a great idea as it can negatively affect some of the adaptations.

Everyone talks about the cold showers, but what temperature is considered cold? Is it what just feels cold to you or is it as cold as your water gets?
@TheRunExperience
@TheRunExperience 2 года назад
Start with what you can handle and progress. I recommend 10-15sec at end of shower as cold as it goes.

Thank you for sharing knowledge, i have questions am using colds shower 2 reduce stress but after cold shower i feel increas of strees in my body .. Secondly: is it good to tacke cold shower befor sleep
@TheRunExperience
@TheRunExperience 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for questions. If you are feeling ‘stress’ after a cold shower work on your controlled breathing during the shower to help adapt to the stress and promote the calming response. Cold showers can help with sleep if you don’t take immediately before bed. Cooling the system before bed can aid sleep with the thermogenic rewarming and studies also found that cold showers increased the production of melatonin, a hormone that plays a crucial role in regulating our sleep-wake cycle

So cold showers are bad after weights but good after runs? Also if I take a cold shower after a HIIT running workout will I be benefit from it or the opposite? Thanks for the video.
@TheRunExperience
@TheRunExperience 11 месяцев назад
Cold showers are fine after weights. Cold immersion in ice baths within 6 hrs after a strength session can dampen down some of the training effect eg hypertrophy and strength

I work in and out of a large walk in freezer. Does that help as well, or only being in cold water?
@TheRunExperience

Good question. The water will create far more of a thermogenic reaction due to its ability to cool the body more effectively than air. Also I assume you will be wearing warm clothing?

A few years ago I took a bath in a river. It was autumn. Recently I decided to try these cold showers. In both scenarios, I ended up with a fever the following day.🤒 People say that exposure to cold makes you more susceptible to contracting viruses and it weakens your immune system. Given the sickness I experienced, they may be right.
@TheRunExperience

Sorry to hear of your negative experience. I would start off more gradually to allow your system to adapt.

I've been cold showering for well over a decade and I absolutely swear by it. People think I'm crazy, which lately tells me that I'm doing something correctly (!), but the very few times per year that I do take a warm-ish shower are if it's really late (and cold outside) and I'm going off to bed, or if I'm under the weather, and I'm going off to bed right after said shower! Give it another chance; the feeling afterward when you step out and dry off is very well worthwhile.

July 18, 2022 Cold water to me tends to prompt a freeze affect or a slowing down effect. On aging? On healing? On a positive affect on INFLAMMATION? To awaken? Maybe or maybe not! Cold to have a health or an unhealthy benefit CAN BE a possibility for the use in its body lowering temperature affect. Regarding of your study or reading, the abuse use of coldness can be bad for your health despite any population or groups to live in lower temperatures for a long time. ADAPT AND SURVIVE OR TO LIVE are a Marine Military soldier qualification to sustain a decent career. Thanks for sharing. It's jogging at your pace not running from problems or anything else to interest me. Thank you, Marcus Pea
