You are the first person to show a good way to carry this IWB, congratulations you won, I have been looking for an idea like this for weeks.
@dsbiddle

I like to carry this knife in a 12" hoagie roll split down the center. I wrap the knife with some roast beef and swiss cheese to prevent the knife from rattling around. A little mayonnaise will help the knife slide out when you need it. You can customize your carry from there - pickles, black olives, jalapenos, etc.

Thanks! I like your zip-tie idea for IWB carry, I'll have to try that. I've been wearing the Bowie Spike in my sock for years as a backup. Love it.

I love that idea for IWB carry! And I thickened the handle up by doing a simple wrap on the grip with 550 cord. It almost doubles the grip size and if you start the wrap after the groove for the pointer finger, it feels even more secure in your hand.

I don't normally watch many knife reviews, but this one intrigued me a bit. I am not one to pay much more than $50 for a knife for any purpose, and I don't buy too many. I have been thinking about a knife for EDC in gun-prohibited areas. I think one of these on the ankle might do the trick.

Thanks for the video! I just got my CS Spike in the mail today and did the paracord belt mod. It works excellent! Very comfortable sitting. Definitely the way to go for IWB.

The Scandi Grind is of course gonna break down faster than a flat or hollow grind with the secondary bevel.

Thanks for the review , I just ordered it!! I modified my CS KOBUN knife to be a neck knife too. It works GREAT!!

i'm proud to call the tanto spike my personal defender! (can't legally own guns here) i played with the thought of getting the tokyo spike as well, but i opted to the cs mini tac, mini pendleton hunter and secret edge instead :) i have a review of this blade on my channel as well. i carry neck knives daily! great job scout. really enjoyed the video--

Great review. I have a Bowie Spike in my collection. I don't carry it often but the odd time that I don't want a knife showing and I have a jacket or button / zip-up shirt on, it' goes around my neck ( or sometimes it's the Double Agent 2 ). For the price and intended use, the steel is fine.

Thats a single use, last ditch self defense knife. Its really not made for batoning thru tree limbs. I think its very well designed for its intended use.

Great review I have however found that a neck knife is one of the only carry methods that does fit an active lifestyle especially if you run or climb a lot

Putting a secondary micro bevel at 30° or 40° might solve that chipping and rolling issue. Will get one and give it a try because I really like the concept of those knives. Excellent review btw!

i just ordered the Drop Point Spike, i picked that one as i would imagine it has the strongest point to slicing surface of them (and i have had some bad experiences with cold steel American style tanto point knives and American style tantos in general, they just don't really fit my preferred style)

Krupp steel is some of the best steel for cutlery. The video where nutnfancy destroyed that pocket bushman, we'll lets get real bashing that blade into dry timber was prolly not the best thing to do lol I have a pocket bushman and it's been a great knife for the price. And holds a good edge

I like the neck knives for the most part I do not carry one everyday, but I do carry one like if I'm fishing or wading creeks if I'm wearing swim trunks or something.

I like neck knives. I carry a CRKT S.P.E.W. 70% of the time. The other 30% I carry a CRKT Minimalist. Both are Alan Folts designed. I have found them to be the perfect balance of size and weight for me. I don't have any issues with them swinging around though. I usually wear a t-shirt and a collared button down shirt and the knife rides in between. Neck knives work well for me because I am seated most of the day and I can access it easier than a folder in my pocket.

Good to know that they're full tang! I couldn't tell from the pictures I saw. And it wasn't in any descriptions I read. You'd think that would be a selling point worth mentioning. I might consider them now. Also, I think the term "Drop point" refers to the fact that the "Point" or tip is "Dropped" from the center of the blade. Also, the edge side of the blade drops. I don't think the back of the blade has much to do with a drop point getting it's name. A spear point drops on the back side as dos a clip point (kind of).But with those two the point is in the center of the blade, or at least pretty close to it. Any who, that's just my two cents. I enjoyed the video. Keep up the good reviews! Thanks!

For me, I would choose weak side cuff-carry over a (wire mesh) sleeve, if it is legal in your jurisdiction. Grupp is cutlery steel (kitchen knives) and "the spike" is coldsteel's take on the prison shiv. So what it is designed for I would say the steel more than adequate.

The Spike is a pretty neat knife as a backup. I have the older model in a Persin design, and I really like it. I prefer the original steel though. That "drop point" chipped/etc. pretty badly. Of course, the edge would eventually turn into a serrated one, lol.

Darn , I was hoping the spike would have been an alternative to a mora knife for food prep, light camp chores and emergency outdoor use. If CS kept the aus8 steel it would have been an awesome ultralight backpack knife.

I agree with you on the neck carry. I don't care for it either. I like your idea carryin it in the belt iniside the waistband. Fixed blade will outperform folder all the time. No way you can pry with a folder in an emergency. It will break. I still prefer fixed blade over folder for just about everything. Good vid. Thanks for sharing.

Honestly, I think it is a little large for a neck knife, I edc the CRKT minimalist, and I wear it around my neck, under my shirt, and it is nice to have a small fixed blade where you can get at it, especially if you can't reach your pockets for some reason

I have the drop point,and despite everything this knife carves wood ,slices food and cardboard like a kitchen knife.Very effective .What i mean is that this knife is way more than a pointy piece of steel.The handle is thin indeed and needs improvement.

If you don't want a IWB blade to shift when carried as shown around 06:00, use the 2 sheath loops to straddle a belt loop on your pants. Then it can't shift any more than the width of the scabbard because the belt loop don't move.

I'm used to metric measurements so, when you said 4 inches, I compared the length against my (at the time) EDC Spyderco Cat. It just seems far too long for EDC (for me). Still hunting for a perfect fixed blade office use EDC.

If you put one loop from the knife on one side of your belt loop and the other on the other side of the belt loop it might eliminate the back and forth wobble. Just a suggestion

I wonder if that steel is less brittle then competitive options. A thin spike might benefit more from a high yield strength steel then from a harder, but more brittle steel (of course the down side would be a weaker and shorter lived edge).

I enjoy neck knifes because of the easy access for example I am a fisherman and I enjoy fishing in a kayak and it is kinda difficult to dig into your pockets in something as small as a kayak I don’t like the spike as a neck knife the chain is to long and it flops around when you try to move with it at all I prefer the crkt minimalist as a neck knife it melts into your head anyway that’s a story for another time 😂 I have been using the old model of the Tokyo spike as a boot knife lately put it in my laces and forget about it it’s not to bulky my summary of the spike bad neck knife grate boot knife!
@GuitarLoveTV
@GuitarLoveTV 11 лет назад
Hey there lateboyscout. I have a s&w hrt boot knife. What do you think of it as a car knife/bob knife? I know its not the best metal by any standard but it is only a last ditch defensive knife for me.

I don’t do neck carry. I used the earlier version tied to the left side of my gun belt. If someone grabbed for the pistol, I could resist with the right hand and with the blade in my left hand, make him sorry.

This knife is designed to be just a prison shiv with nice handle. The only way it will work is to do a sewing machine attack in the spleen and then the same sewing strike to the neck. Nothing more will be achieved with this tool design, being 4 inches long..
@NestorNegronDiaz
@NestorNegronDiaz 10 лет назад
Point taken. I will have to add this point of view in my learning curve. My comment was in the sense that it is a simplistic design to tease Lynn Thompson fans. (And he does have a lot). I once participated in a Youth Prison Incident doing Social Work. It involved six, 15 y/o kids that made a weapon out of a bundle of 9 shiskabob sticks bundled together and were able to penetrate the abdomen up to two inches. It was not lethal but the boy stood 40 days in antibiotics because many wooden particles were broken into the skin.
@idontplayeveryday
@idontplayeveryday 10 лет назад
***** you dont know anything lol. the spike is suppose to be a one time use knife thats why the steel is bad because it is suppose to be a cheap disposable knife.

I completely changed my mind about this... It's still a shiv, but I've learnt that is good for many other stuff.

In my pov most people carry neck knives the wrong way. It should be worn next to your neck and not hang on a chain around your neck in front of your chest. Best way so far is using velcro and wearing it on your shirt, jacket or whatever. An alternative for women might be the same in long boots, fix it with velcro so it doesn`t move anyhow. If you do it right it is pretty concealed. Fixed blade vs folding knife: If you intend to use it in a defensive roll i`d compare the ways in which they are "deployed" with a glock vs a 1911. No extra on it which can fail when you deploy it under stress. As soon as it leaves the holster/sheath it`s ready to go.
