I ordered the sr lite tanto myself. Can't beat under$60 such a beast. But I'm waiting for it to get through this messed up mail. Been 2 weeks from blade HQ On a side note some of my smoothest knives were Teflon. I had a kershaw Emerson that is butter an cost me $15 but nothing tops a coldsteel You know thats a small knife for coldsteel people. Now skinny jeans an the knife nerds that never use their knives carry tiny do nothing knives that cost hundreds. I'll take a real user anyday
Bit of a run on sentence there lol but I feel you! Too many people carry expensive knives just to look cool, and especially these days people get all pissed if a knife weighs more than like 2oz.
This is my daily carry, it’s perfection for me. Love it so much I’ve purchased several for backups just in case. Still carry the o.g. I purchased years ago and it’s good to go still.
Just ordered both blade version in the Lite. Along with the AD10, AD15, 4Max Scout, Recon 1 Tanto, Ultimate Hunter, Air Lite, these will be nice additions to my Cold Steel collection. I can't see spending 3x the amount for the G-10 and S35VN versions. IMO, the Teflon washers work just fine and are very easy to replace. Teflon is very tough material and has a better friction coefficient than PB. Demko even states in a podcast why he chooses to use Teflon in his knives. If sand or grit happens to get inside, the particles will embed into the Teflon and not cause as much damage during use.
what do people expect - it says it on the blade - SR1 - Search and Rescue 1 - these are robust hard use work knives - soldier knives - they are not for peeling a apple - they will - but they will not be kind
There are several sites dedicated to "knife kits" where you make your own....they have all kinds of accessories, blades, handles, springs, etc..... I'd say they probably have what you're looking for.
The bill on the clip is proper. I have a blade with the bill more neutral and about once in ten times I catch it on something. It now points downward now.
Nice, in CA nearly anything that has a button of any type will get you seriously looked into..........unless it is under two inches, in other words only strong language is OKAY here:(
I have the clip and tanto versions of the Lite! They're GREAT knives, period! You get WAY MORE knife with the Lites, than what you pay for... Excellent value!
I just came across the SR1 Lite recently and within 10 minutes bought one. I went Tanto for the thicker tip because I figured if there’s one folding knife capable of being a reliable thrower it’s this one. But I might get a clip point as well. My only complaint(s) is about the pocket carry. That clip is so damn thick/stiff and so tight against that rough plastic it’s impossible to get on a pocket. I need to sand down the texture some then start bending the clip back to make it wearable. That or just remove it and drop it in a back pocket and have a smoother grip for throwing. Minor improvement would be a little larger choil and more aggressive jimping since it is a semi-survivalist knife. That would aid in carving/safety when choked.
Does the tape work on your measuring calipers. Got a civivi vision fg in Damascus, will get the standard it's now one of my favourite it's a great knife really love it it took all year to find it in the shops here in Australia so really stoked I've got one now it has to b one of civivi best knifes the action is super smooth.,...great locking/unlocking system.
No Knife Center links? C’mon dude I just joined their rewards program. Maybe I’ll get a free knife in 2030 ha ha....no but seriously no links yet? As for the knife, it still seems kinda heavy at 6 0z or so. To me “lite” is 1-3 oz, like a bug out or Osbourne 940.
I really like the SR1. I find that Teflon washers work well. As you mentioned, they give the knife smooth action, but because they self-lubricate, there is also less need for any maintenance. Knives that I have that use Teflon washers can be washed out under the faucet if they are exposed to grit.
@@2873lonewolf Where I got the idea that Teflon washers self-lubricate is from knife makers and the scientific literature. Also from practical experience, the knives I have running on Teflon washers have never required any additional lubrication.
Both are similar weight to many other large folders. Ka-bar Mule is at 7.5 oz. Camillus Beast is 8 1/4 oz. I'm sure there are many others with beefy frame locks that are even heavier.
For the price, I think I'd just buy an AD-10 over that tanto. Little less robustness, but way better slicing (and still overbuilt). $220 for the tanto versus $160 for the clip point is fairly ridiculous.
Hey MC, great video. Just to let you know, Amazon has the premium Sr1 in clip point for $125 and the tan to for $145. Great deal, I bought the clip point about a week ago. One hell of a knife. Keep up the great work brother.
I've had the g10 clip point and both blades of the lite. The lite is a great value but if I get one again I'd get the green g10 for the better steel and the color but that's just me.
If you are interested in these type of Cold Steel folders I definitely recommend checking out the 4" Large Voyager. It's the same price as the SR1 Lite but with AUS-10A steel, damn near equally as tough & also comes in multiple blade shapes. Cheers MC & thanks for another informative knife review. 👍
I bought the 8cr SR-1 Lite Tanto to be a primary blade when camping, since it’s blade is only about half a millimeter thinner than my Bravo 1. I’m going to remove the unusable pocket (shredder) clip and rely on a lanyard large enough to go around my wrist for chopping. And yeah, carry it in a dedicated belt sheath because it’s for camping, not edc.
I’ve only had one knife in 8cr……. It was awful, it rusted worse than D2 never held an edge and the edge rolled during light use. It was on the ceramic rods virtually every day. In the end I gave up and put it in a drawer where it still is I think. As a result I have never bought another knife in 8cr…….. Was I just unlucky and got a Friday afternoon knife? I wanted the S35vn SR1 but I’ve realised I could get the Lite and a Recon 1 for the same price. Is Cold Steels 8cr decent?
Man, if cold steel made an edc line with the tri-ad lock, it would take off. Less thick, shorter, and more carry friendly. I don't want a pocket sword, i want a strong locking edc knife that doesn't cost over $100 CAD and doesn't have garbage steel.
