I've had this knife for a good while now. I have the tanto model. It is a absolute great work knife. I would go so far to say this is the perfect survival knife. Most people don't understand survival. They think you need a huge fixed blade. They are nice but you never carry it. See this knife is the type you will Carry when you go out so you have a great chance of having it when something happens. Then this knife is tough enough to do anyone need to survive. At least thats my opinion.
There’s definitely a case to be made for folders over fixed blades in that scenario, and if I were to carry one, it would oh so likely be a beefy tri-ad lock knife like this one. There isn’t much use of having a knife for survival/emergency purposes if you never carry it on your person 🤷🏻♂️ That tanto version has to be a step up from the clip point in terms of durability, so even better! Thanks for the discussion ✌️
I got my SR1 lite today 39.00 on Amazon, inspection looks great, sharp, centered, no flaws, open and close how it should, next campfire it will be put to work. looks like a beast of a blade.
Hey look out getting to the sweet stuff.. the SR1 lite yet to own one but I've heard nothing but good things about the especially the heavy duty SR1's .. I heard that's it's been built of the SRK..
From what little I’ve used it so far it’s definitely feeling nearly unbreakable. Yes indeed, I forgot to mention it in the unboxing, but it’s definitely modeled after the SRK. I’ll be sure to include that in the review 👌
I have the tanto. But I now want the clip version because the tanto does not penetrate as good since its 5mm think (same as the Recon tanto)! Tip: slide a 80 grit sand paper under the clip and slide it in and out until it wears down the scale. That will make an incredible difference with that overly tight clip
I had almost got the tanto myself but I’m glad I went this way. That thick blade is awesome, but it could use all the help in the slicey/stabby department that it can get. Thanks for the sandpaper tip! I will most definitely be doing that and spreading that tip to the good people of the internet 👌
Most always the fixed blade. Especially for the design and grind of that Joker knife, it’d be wayyyy better suited for bushcraft. HOWEVER, if you were to trust any ONE folding knife to never let you down and be ALMOST as reliable as a well-built full tang fixed blade… then it would be probably be the SR1 or SR1 Lite.
Absolutely! I’m hoping to do video series of “One Knife Winter Survival” and this would be a cool one to try out! I wouldn’t put my life in the hand of any folder, but this one I just might…
I’ve got this knife in tanto. I even carry it on me when I’m in gym shorts. It’s a real dandy of a blade. It’s kinda like carrying a Japanese short sword in my pocket. I friggin love it. I paid 42 bucks for it. What a deal!
In shorts?? Hot damn, I love it. Agreed on accounts my friend. Bang for your buck this folder is unreal. I may have to give a go next week as my primary folder… if you can handle it in shorts, I can sure as handle rock it in a pair of jeans/work pants for the week.
They put on Teflon washers cause some people don't take their knives apart to clean and do maintenance on them and some people don't know that can be done. So the knife will still perform for the ignorant people.
I got a second AD10, just because its awesome. Go for it! But this one is great to. I'm disappointed now that I got the 8CR13MOV one... It kinda feels like missed out on 1 MOV!
Lmao, that 1 MOV is haunting many people I’m sure! I’m torn between the AD10 and 4 Max Scout, but one of them will very likely be my next Cold Steel purchase 👌
@@HardOnGearChannel I.M.O the 4max is too big. If i'm going to carry around that kind of heft, it might as well be a fixed blade. The AD10 to me is the limit of weight and size that is practical for a folder. (Granted I own a Spartan 😅) But you have to experience the quality of the AD10....👌🤌. It is a CS, but on a whole other level!
I just ordered one of these Saturday from Amazon and hope it will arrive on my front door tomorrow looking forward to beating the living crap out of this hardcore Navy SEAL military badass Warrior Throwdown Mama Jama knife
@@kdf357 haha, I don’t blame you! I was handling one a couple of weeks ago and it feels amazing in the hand. That compression lock just takes a little getting used to as a lefty.
Nice review. I want to purchase one but I can’t make up my mind between the tanto or clip point. I will use it for hard work, hiking, emergency, survival.Could you give me your opinion please?
Thanks for watching! While I’m not a big tanto guy myself, tanto tips are if great if you’re going to doing a lot of punching through and prying of materials that you probably should be prying with a knife (i.e. dense wood, metal). You can still slice with it, but it won’t be quite as good of a cutter as the clip point if you need to do longer cuts of cardboard or cordage. I can’t say I’ve used tanto knives in the bush any amount, but feel as though it would wouldn’t be a capable as the clip point for bushcraft work. I’m sure that’s a debatable topic though. All of this is just my opinion of course, but put simply: if you REALLY plan to beat the snot out of it and do a lot of prying, probably go with the tanto. Otherwise, I’d go with the clip point for better overall utility.
This folder is OKAY for that stuff in my opinion, but there are knives that would be way better. This one can be heavy and hard to pull out of the pocket if you’re stressed. The most important thing is training. What you carry is far less important than who’s carrying it. However… fixed-blades are almost always better than folders. Less risk of fumbling the deployment, less chance of knife failure, and faster to deploy and get into action. Here are a few knives that I would consider to be more of what your asking about, but everyone has different opinions and preferences: -Emerson knives CQC series, Cold Steel Spartan, Spyderco Yojimbo or Yojumbo for folders. -KA-BAR TDI, TOPS Cut 4.0, Shivworks Clinch Pick
I just ordered one of these and an air lite as my first cold steels. Been collecting for years as more of a light-medium duty EDC guy, but this will be my first real "overbuilt" knife.
Well my friend, I think you’ve made some choice purchases 👌 You just can’t go wrong with these Cold Steel knives if tanky, overbuilt goodness is what you’re after 👊
@@HardOnGearChannel Just got them and I have to say, while I mainly like the more convenient and fidgety knife locks, there is something uniquely satisfying about that tri-ad CLACK.
@@Kyle-bb9zp Not a lot, but I’ve traded a couple of times when the right offer has been made and I feel like I’ve used the knife enough to give it a good review.
Il tanto se consumata tutta ka pancia da buttare meglio il v clip point o pteso clup point e tanto e poket busmano 70 65 50 3 carramTi il pou odioso e il tanto affilare e un dito 9n kulo 😮😮😮
“Pocket” indeed… You’re not getting much else in your pocket with most Cold Steel folders in there. Check out the Tufflite! Relatively affordable but incredibly practical. It’s different from most other Cold Steel knives, but it’s a great representation of the quality you get for very little money. Cold Steel is about as Hard On Gear approved as a knife company can get 👊
That I can tell I've beat the living crud out of my G.I tanto although I did some what make it curved and not tanto. On purpose. And it gets thrown around and at stuff...
@@HardOnGearChannel I normally don't publicly comment if it's a one off kind of situation. Because of the vast numbers of counterfeits, I assume that even brand dealers end up with a few every once in a while, and have it swapped out. But this last time, I used 3 separate dealers, (all brand direct) and all of the knives looked identical, with the same sheaths and markings. Out of 9 knives the majority developed broken tips and chipping issues during normal use. Not happy, but willing to keep looking into it due to the history.
Not on all of their Cold Steel knives ,most of them are steel made in Taiwan and uses Japanese or American steels as well as German steel but some from China also.
Lol, I got a nice slice doing the one handed close of my recon 1. Seemed like it came down a little harder that time? I don't really know why, oh well. Love my cold steels.
