I just bought this knife and I am planning on comparing it to my BK2 that Ive been using since 2019. Im well aware of the limitations of the BK2 in terms of finer wood working tasks. The SRK is very light and im sure it will be limited on the heavy lifting tasks that the BK2 excels in. The major tasks I require of a survival knife are simple. 1. Making a shelter with cordage. 2. Processing wood for fire making. Im looking forward to testing it.
These Carbon V Cold Steels are probably the best knives to ever come out the CS factories. They sharpen easier and hold an edge longer than the AUS8, cheaper than 3V, and just overall better bang for your buck. I have a Recon Tanto coming in a few days and can’t wait.
why does everybody compare this to falkniven? Seriously!!! falkniven copied cold steel, because they were cold steel distributors before producing knives. oh, also the srk was out first.
SYMPOL BMX debatable. For a 40$ knife, it’s very good. Is the Falkniven you paid between 200$ and 400$ five times or ten times better? I don’t think so. And if you step up to the CPM 3V model for the SRK, it’s also a different story. And remember DBK did an abuse test for a Falkniven and the tip broke within seconds
Amazing test! I love that you review the knife after dragging it to hell and back rather than unboxing it and and judging it on looks alone like most other RU-vid channels! Keep it up
The Cold Steel SRK is a great survival knife for anyone serious about such things. I've seen so many videos of people beating the tar out of this blade and it simply smiles back. Thanks for the video Mayor!
I'm pretty sure this design has been around since the mid 80's so I'm pretty sure they didn't copy Fallkniven. In other news, this video was extremely entertaining.
Tim Balzer falkniven copied cold steel, but because falkniven is a higher end brand people assume it came first when they were the European distributors for cold steel then borrowed ideas and went their separate ways
As far as I've understood, it's the Fällkniven A1 that's inspired by the SRK. Love them both. If I could have an A1 in Carbon V, I would be crying of joy....
Mayor your knife tests are the best you helped me to buy best knife possible i got myself SRK and it it THE ultimate knife thank you keep it up YOU ROCK👍💪🤟
I got the SRK SK 5 and even though it's an inexpensive version , it's the only knife I cut myself Everytime I pick it up. It's just that sharp. Great video.
Hello, interesting and original video above, based on your experience is preferable to this or strongarm of Gerber? Let me know what you think, Michele a greeting.
Hello Michele, I think that the strongarm is pretty nice, as it is lighter. The strongarm cannot chop as well as the SRK, but the strongarm is easier to carry around. Thanks for watching ! Mayor Fuglycool
Totally love your videos. It’s not only informative, but also entertaining and amusing as well. For a moment there, I almost thought it was Arnold Z who was talking. Great review! Subbed as well.
I got mine from my buddy it sat outside on the coast for about a year stabbed into a board. I cleaned it up and it’s nearly new. I polished it to a real cool dark metal. Light fading on the rubber handle is the only noticeable thing. Still my favorite blade.
How come you don't test the popular new Schrades like the 30, 36, 28, 58, etc... I bought one and want to know if it's a piece of junk or a good knife. I would also like to know if these SRK knives say China or Taiwan on them Thanks
Happy Easter Mayor, I have this exact same Cold steel SRK Carbon V made in USA that I bought back in the day when Lynn Thompson was selling these from Ventura California. Great review as always. I'm currently going to buy a Cold steel VG-10 in San-mi steel so I was doing my homework as always before I buy and came across your review. I remember viewing this review back in the day before I bought this knife. Thanks again and be stay safe. "A man can never have to many knives "
Do you think you could do a video on the ESEE 5? i know there are other destruction videos out there but I'm pretty sure your test would be a true test of purpose and performance.
I can't find a source but I read somewhere that Fällkniven actually based their A1 and S1 design on the Cold Steel SRK. Obviously improving a lot on it as well. Still haven't got the S1 in my collection sadly. It is one expensive knife!
An SRK will take a razor edge. I've seen video of guys beating the absolute bleep out of it. They ruined the rubbery material the handle was made of but the metal part inside the handle didn't bend even a smidgen. These are very, very tough knives. I do own one.
I recently got one of these from a guy who said he carried it in Afghanistan. It says SRK COLD STEEL CARBON V MADE IN USA. the sheath it came in I've seen on others but mine is unmarked. Is this normal? I read they were counterfeit. If this knife is fake, it's a good one. Has black epoxy paint, balance is excellent. Any help? Thanks
I love my old carbon V SRK. I bought it used from a veteran of one of the many Middle east campaigns the USA was involved in. $20! He said he was going to pick up a new one. I gave him the Jackson thanked him for his service to our country & wished him luck. I didn't have the hart to tell him that they no longer make them in the USA or out of carbon V. Was I in the wrong? sweet deal. 10 years ago. even more of a deal looking back.
I had the sk5 and the tip of the knife broke off stabbing wood. About one inch of the tip broke off. At first I thought it maybe just a factory defect but I have seen and heard of others having the same problem with this knife.
Was that Arnold I heard!? Cool 'work' on the cold steel SRK and loved your video's on the Ontario SP1 & 6. Will you do some work on the Cold Steel Recon Tanto?
wow, awesome knife that just took that test in its stride I bet you could put it through the test again and it would survive ,I would put this knife in the same category as the bk20 if it was a race it would be a dead heat as always excellent video thanks for sharing
Hey Mayor, you should try out the True Flight Thrower it was made by Cold Steel as well, it's a very tough piece of steel and I wondered if it will pass your destruction test
I used to own both a Fällkniven A1 and an SRK carbon V. Think I liked the SRK more, partly because of Cold Steels testing and when the knife isn't that expensive you aren't afraid to use it. Think I liked the SRK grip better also. I don't believe that Fällkniven is better. The most expensive one is over 500 dollars in Sweden (A1 Pro). Do you even want to use a knife that expensive?
AUS 8A is a decent stainless type of steel, I would say that the strength of the blade is the same, just more rust resistant. Thanks for watching ! Mayor Fuglycool
The recon tanto will probably come out next year sometime, I have a lot of them lined up for the end of this year. I will get around to it in the future, and I am sure it will hold up :) Mayor Fuglycool
hey major, cool you tested the srk! I purchased one 2 weeks ago. for sure I dont use it so hard like you, but I agree when it comes to durability and versatility. great knife! but one issue I find, the coating from my vg1 blade comes off very easily. ... I looking for more cold steel testing, espcially the spartan ☺👍 Danke für deine tollen und interessante Videos, mach weiter so wie bisher! super geil! viele grüße aus Süddeutschland
Hey Mayor! Are you planning on doing a torture test on the Gerber Gator Premium? Would be interesting to see if Gerber's premium knife is worth the money.
love the video mayor you prove what will hold up sir my boys who are 8 and 10 love your videos iam getting them out and teaching them a lot of outdoor activities and survival they love it as my father taught me I have to ask you mayor what happens to the knifes that make the test iam assuming you tidy them up and use them? lol my youngest said dad if the knife don't break from the mayor then it will be a good knife for us to use lol keep up the good work sir
Thanks for the support ! It is good to teach your children how to survive, and I am glad that they love my videos. Then knives that pass are usually put into my collection, and every once I sell blades to friends. My favorite knives would have to be the Glock knives, SOG Seal Pup, Ontario SP1, Full length Ka-Bar, and the Becker BK20. Thanks, and stay tuned for the next test ;) Mayor Fuglycool
*Question:* Can knives be used as weapons for self defense or are they *STRICTLY* tools and should be never used in the previous intention!? I would love to hear the opinions of the internet ...
I thought all the tests constitute extreme abuse but wow I'm impressed and I own a carbon v srk for 29 years. it's been through a lot of deer and steaks. they don't make them like that anymore . peace
One tough piece of Cold Steel,,I like that knife with that simple design and after watching this test I like it even more,,,plus it's made in The USA I didn't know that,,,,Cool test as always Mayor,,Keep Up The Good Testing,,,and as always Safety First,,,,Peace
Thought I already commented, but I didn’t. Have been enjoying your vids for a while. Recently found this SRK Carbon V at a pawn shop in new condition with the Kydex sheath. I had seen it on some other RU-vid channels as well, so I was happy to be able to pick one up without having to spend a lot on eBay. Yes, they are “collectible,” but that doesn’t mean they are expensive or you shouldn’t use them. What’s the point of a knife you can’t count on to perform that just sits in a drawer? I went straight out and picked up a decent stick off the ground and promptly got to hacking it up. Thanks for your vids and all the great destruction testing winners and losers.
Well, the Laredo Bowie has a wire tang I believe . . . And I am kinda skeptical if it will hold up to my tests. I am glad you loved the test, more Cold Steel to come :) Mayor Fuglycool
Nice test, a little bit longer knife, well than take the trailmaster from cold steel. It's a chopper king. The trailmaster, San Mai III is a incredibly knife. I own it and I love it
The shorter blades are harder to test, mainly on the brick and cinder block portions, but I will try to get around to testing a new one at some point in time next year. I do have more Ontario's coming in, stay tuned ;) Mayor Fuglycool
