We'd probably need to re-add back in either Victoria 2 or Victoria 3 pops, demographics, voting pops, voter issues, elections and all of that detailed aspects, as well as potentially more economic simulations of the various different industries, as well as scores for civilastion style cultural developments, art movements, etc. There's important social progress in terms of the civil rights movements, racial/lgbq/women's rights. There's various sorts of endeavours that certain countries could realistically take part in, such as the space race. Whilst the time period might not be the greatest map painter for those wanting conquer the world style gameplay like the world wars. I suppose that could be handled with escalation, de escalation to change the computer AI depending upon the Defcon footing. There's definately a bunch of different conflict hot spots, like the chinese civil war, Korea, Vietnam, Israel, middle east conflicts and the gulf war. But these are more like colonial wars, the rest is more policing in places undergoing civil unrest, civil wars, or piracy near shipping lanes. But it would be definatly more economic focused, would need to simulate more free market devlopment vs. centrally planned economies. Being able to develop economic blocs, like the EFTA, European Community -> EU, etc. Some games sort of try to do this, are the Supreme Ruler series, although I have found them difficult to get into. And if you want to try a 'Cold War' goes hot and Nuclear scenario. The gameplay setup still seems a bit difficult to replicate that scenario. The closest I've seen is the arcade style multiplayer Defcon game. I think there's potential for a good, even if the maps won't usually change that much for this sort of game setting.
