Went out in the snow to test a new piece of equipment, the world's warmest sleeping bag from Pajak Sport.
I put new gear to the test in a new area and embrace the cold January weather

That was cool that you showed a “fan” at the end recognizing you. More nice when you introduced yourself and shook his hand. That’s class. Well done. I always think you are nuts camping with no tent…but that’s because I would be chicken to do the same. If there is a formula for this type of channel it seems to be 25% scenery, 25% firewood cutting, 25% cooking show, and 25% chitchat and sleeping. Yours is great because you do all of those well, and your big playful personality is always worth watching. The maple syrup on everything is weird though….lol, and I am a fellow Canadian. Keep up the good work.

You're bringing back memories of the many frosty winters we spent during our time in Yukon. My hubby ran his dog team in the first ever Yukon Quest. Though not as well known, it's a more difficult race than the more familiar Iditarod. One of his favorite nights was spent on top of a mountain, windy with a temperature of -55C. He had no tent but put his sleeping bag on top of a caribou hide and was quite warm. Thanks for not quitting during the winter months. We'd miss your fun videos if we had to wait until spring.

I was born and raised on a beautiful small tropical island called Saipan, in the Northern Mariana Islands and have since moved to Seattle, WA here in the United States in 2005 when I was 11 years old. Years later and I have been depressed and still struggle with Big City Living with all the craziness going on in the world, but your videos remind me of the happiness and love for being outdoors and connecting with nature as I did when I was a little boy. The Butternut squash with those toppings sound wonderful. You need to roast them in foil with oil like a baked potato to get them to cook all the way through. Using just foil isn’t enough because the rind is not as permeable. A couple pats of butter would work perfect and be portable.

You should invest in a Warn bumper hitch winch set up so you can use it off the front and rear of your truck. Just add a 2” receiver under the front bumper and wire 1 or 2 gauge to quick connect plugs. The second tree you cut (at the second campsite 18:45) that almost took your face off, was a textbook ‘barber chair’ break. Kills more loggers than jealous husbands 😎

Imo the fjällräven polar -30 bag is superior in design to this. The fur covering the face area is really amazing for stopping the wind getting in. And also cheaper (in Sweden at least) 1420 of 800fp vs 1050 900fp in size large. So id imagine the theoretical warmth to be similar. But as you say, if the baffles suck then that will diminish any perceived benefits from the higher quality down. I'd highly recommend the fjällräven sack. I've used it here in northern Sweden down to minus 38 paired with an exped dura 6 and some foam mats under the open sky with light wind. I've also heard good things about the thermarest polar ranger.

Where I live... the coldest night of the year is usually about 5 degrees celcius. The last few years we've been down to 2. I once travelled somewhere that got to -2. I am not actually sure I'd survive in -25. At the moment the weather here is 29 degrees celcius at 9:30pm. It got to a top of 38 recently. Hearing you talk about it maybe not being the coldest, is wild to me. Functioning at all in that kind of weather is pretty awesome.

So, how to prevent smokey the bear from rolling up on you in your sleep?
@ohjopi7722
@ohjopi7722 3 месяца назад
Tip for winter camping (from someone thats been in the military in the north): try to wear as little clothes inside the sleeping bag as possible. I see youre wearing multiple layers which dont really work with the bag. Just wear a slim base layer and let the sleeping bag do its work, you dont need your jacket inside it

Xander, please try this; this would be interesting experiment on back to back nights with the same bag and similar temperatures.
@Oemssi
@Oemssi 3 месяца назад
That is counter intuitive and against the laws of physics. If you want to be warmer, you want more layers, not less. The sleeping bag is just another layer of insulation, similar to clothing. Your advice would be good, if you just wanted to warm up the sleeping bag for some reason, but that's not the point. The point is to stay warm yourself. I do agree that in those temps, with the new bag he should be just fine in only base layer.
@Dexter00000
@Dexter00000 3 месяца назад
@@Oemssibut this is what you can also find in lots of videos as well as sleeping bag manuals - wear a base layer, warm yourself before entering the sleeping bag (eg. by tightening your muscles) and if needed, use a chemical warmers or a bottle with hot water. They do not advise multiple layers cause you will sweat = produce moisture = get wet = get cold 🤷🏻‍♂️
@Oemssi
@Oemssi 3 месяца назад
Yeah, all that is good advice. If you wear too many layers and start to sweat, that is not good for the insulating properties of the sleeping bag. But still, the principle more layers = more warmth applies. If you do all that and are still cold, more layers will provide more warmth, not less.@@Dexter00000
