Another great video. I use my Weber Q as a backup for family cookouts or for a quick grill session. Never tested to see how long these little tanks last. Almost alway have an extra cylinder or two in the grill box. Good to know one little tank is good for 3 hours or so. Keep the videos coming. Really enjoy watching your work.

If I placed a small 2 quart cast iron Dutch Oven on the Weber Q would it fry fish or would I be better off getting a small burner designed for frying? It does light every time! 🔥I always preheat for six to seven minutes on the highest heat setting to disinfect the grill surface, and then crank it all the way down to the lowest setting for grilling burgers, brats and hot dogs. My compliments to the chef here on your indirect grilling and smoking method! Thanks for the tip. I would ballpark my grill to use one full camping gas canister at 3 hours on average. Hi dude, great video!. I wonder if those little disposable tanks are made to be used only once, do you know? I mean, if since they last almost 4 hours, you could use it for about 2 hours, leave it plugged in and use it again the following week? Or in that case the gas is lost? I've never camped, so I've never used them, and I'm thinking of using them as a replacement for my 11 lb tank. That one (11 lb) doesn't look good at all on my newly renovated balcony.

Yes, you can leave them plugged in. Just make sure you don't accidentally leave the gas on or bump it to the on position. You'll waste all your gas.

Got a Q1200 couple years ago thanks to your videos. Thanks! Have had fun trying some of your recipes as well as general cooking. Was wondering when you'd start releasing new videos :) Ironically I've been having problems with using 15lb tank with adapter hoses. The flow of propane keeps stopping and flame goes out. I've googled the problem and something to do with increased pressure of large tank versus small one. Tried all the fixes, worked for a while, but now won't ignite at all. Just using regular propane tanks now. Have you had any problems? I see you always use large tanks. Thanks for any info... keep up the good work!

@GallaghersGrub 4 года назад
I've used many larger 15 and 20 lb tanks as well as the small tanks and have never had an issue. Unfortunately, your grill may have some defect, but I'm not certain. Thanks for watching!
@dandaly7305
@dandaly7305 4 года назад
There's a safety valve/diaphragm that senses high flows of gas just as the gas leaves the hose and enters the grill. It triggers, and the flow is greatly reduced, if you just crank the tank valve open. Try to turn it about 1/8 turn per 4 seconds until the first turn is over, it should cure the problem (this takes patience). The diaphragms age and get stiff, which makes them more sensitive. If you turn the tank valve slowly, the safety system does not activate. For City Escape Griller - pictures of where you set the heat control would have made this video better. Also, if you put a hand behind your phone, the lens will focus there.

Hello, I recently purchased the Q1200 and have had mixed comments about using a larger propane tank versus the one-pound bottles. Do you not have to remove the regular on the barbecue to use a larger tank? Thank you (from Calgary, Alberta, Canada).
@GallaghersGrub
@GallaghersGrub 2 года назад
Yes, you have to remove the small 1lb tank to hook up the hose to the larger tank. If you're mostly using it at home, I suggest the larger tank. It will save you a lot of money in the long run. The smaller tanks are great for taking the grill on the road.

In the U.S. the regulator comes standard on the Weber Qs. In some countries, like Australia, you have to buy the regulator separately. Since I did not have to buy one, all I can say is I think they are pretty standard and available at most hardware stores.

Might be a dumb question, but let’s say you run out of propane mid-cook. Is it safe to unscrew the empty one and screw on a new one? Or do you have to wait? Any precautionary steps?

Just turn the gas knob to "Off," replace the tank and start it back up. Happens all the time.

Question I have a cheap portable gas grill (expert grill brand from Walmart) it does not have a ignite button first time dealing with gas grill now when we do like a family cookout and we do not use all of the propane are we supposed to disconnect it from the grill after we shut it off or do we leave it on there ? I don't know anything about these little 1 lb cylinders also when I turned it on I could smell the propane but no flame so I put a lighter to it and then it had a flame a small one like I said it does not have a ignite button so I don't know how it's supposed to work also how do you keep the grease from getting on the bottom had a lot of Grease falling down in there making the flames high Orange.... any information will be a great help
@GallaghersGrub

I've never used an expert brand grill. With the weber Q, I like to unscrew the little canister when I'm moving the grill around as to not accidentally bump the gas knob on. Grease happens, just have to give it a good cleaning every now and then. Cheers!

@Yang1
@Yang1 4 года назад
@@TheCorporateCollege Well, if I have all the time and resource to test all the queries I have in life, I wouldn't get much accomplished in the same amount of time. That's why I came online to search for test results performed by people who enjoys doing them (and hopefully compensated well for it). What I'm trying to say is although I appreciate the video creator's time in creating this video, his tests are statistically insignificant when he's only testing a setting in the middle. What I don't understand is the purpose of your comment; it's neither constructive or informative. For others who is equally as curious as I am, I saved some time in calculating the theoretical maximum usage time per 1 lb bottle. Each 1LB bottle (assuming has exactly 1 LB of propane) has theoretical value of 21591 BTU. Assuming q1200 indeed burns exactly 8500 BTU/hour at maximum setting. It should in theory last around 2 and a half hours. Obviously this is all on paper (and i don't know the propane usage at lowest setting) which is why I searched for videos like this to answer my question. P.S. Obviously, I know most people are content with the information that was presented. However, coming from a scientific background, the way an experiment is designed means a lot to me. If it was designed and executed improperly, the information presented might be false or misleading. What I pointed out is in fact just the biggest blatant gap in the experiment design; there are other gaps that stood out to me too. I know youtube isn't a peer reviewed source of knowledge which is why I overlooked everything else and kept my original comment simple and sweet.

If the Q is in one stationary place, then yes you can. But if you're putting it into your car to take it somewhere, disconnect the tank. You don't want to bump the gas knob on.

You can leave it attached. But if you're transporting your Q, you should take it off, because it's very easy to accidentally turn the gas knob on, and you'll lose all your gas.

So what is that in number of meals cooked per tank, starting from a cold grill? Two and a bit?
@GallaghersGrub
@GallaghersGrub 11 месяцев назад
A normal sized steak takes about 10 minutes to pre-heat the grill, and about 10 mins max cooking time. About 20 mins total. That would be about 8-9 cooks for steaks.

This has happened to me several times. Occasionally, the threads on the tank may be stripped a little bit. It will usually attach, but it may take a few minutes of really pushing to get it on. The Coleman brand tanks tend to have better threading.
