My single burner Coleman 533 (also sold as the Coleman Sportster)
Its a liquid fuel pressure stove that uses petrol / shellite / white fuel
Simply pump it up and light it, its that simple. Very economical, burns at 10,000 btu, holds 500ml of fuel and burns 260g/hr so a tank will last 2 hours on high. Leaving home with a full tank and a litre bottle will last 6 hours of high .... that's a bloody long time in camping cooking terms

Hi Ross just stumbled across your awesome Troopy vibe channel..... bloody mint. Anyway I was searching the 533 to replace my old 424 model which parts are not available in Oz as we seem to only be 414 imports and spares. Q to you is do you use your 533 predominately over your dual burner as I was thinking getting 2 x 533 instead of a new 414 to cook. How does the 533 simmer? Or is she just a water boiler? Thanks and awesome vids. Great rig set up as well.
@Vagare
@Vagare 3 года назад
Hey Legend, thanks for the love. I have the 424, what's the issue with yours?? I just replaced all the seals in mine and runs like a bird. My 424 originates from Europe, and according to Coleman they were never sold here, hence the parts issue. I suspect some parts btw models are interchangeable but I know some arent. The 424 is always in the kit but I do tend to preference the 533. The frypan dominates most of the realestate on the dual anyway, so not significantly more useful than the 533. I cheat a bit and I mostly precook a lot of meals, vacuum seal them and then throw them in boiling water either on the 533 or in the billy over the fire. Steak, vegies, pasta, roasts all in the water, but whatever I do I rarely need 2 burners much now. The 533 does simmer quite ok but it is a little fickle, and not quite as easy as the 424. The 424 is better to use, just a bit big for most of my cooking. Before the 533 I had a Soto Muka hike stove but melted it; I didnt want to hock my first born for another high end hike stove, so at around $90 for the 533 I thinks its a winner ... not the best, but gets the job done and the Muka wasn't 3 times better as the price suggested. Cheers

@@Vagare I’ll answer that with banter, lies then truth. My folks toured UK and Europe with the UK purchased 424 20 years ago before is resting place in their shed until a newly TOA member found it and then was gifted to me a few years back - and of course loved it since. So it’s leaked at threads aand caught fire and I’ve pulled the generator apart and cleaned the needle and spring and got her working well I think... I’ve never seen or used one before so I’m not sure how a shmicko one runs but still pleased with the outcome. After small flame 🔥 incident the Mrs won’t ever light it so I’m always up making the morning coffee.

@@Troopstan You need to keep on top of soot build-up like what youve done. The tiny O Ring and seal replacements are a little challenging to find but they are out there at specialist suppliers. Catalogs and online ordering wont cut it tho, they'll need to see the components and then gather a bunch of possibles for your trial and error. Luck puts Seal Innovations near me so it was easy enough. After a few non starters, I found the right combo from the selection they gave me. They are too good a stove to give up on, Troop on

Hey mate. Coleman dual fuel stove or this burner single?. Atm i have ya typical gas burner stove but would like to do away with gas bottles. Is the dual fuel stove essentially a bigger version of the 533. Would like to keep the 2 burner setup, but dont wanna upgrade to dual fuel coleman if its not worth it. Just cooking meals for 2 tbh. Are the coleman dual fuel stoves any good?
@Vagare
@Vagare 2 года назад
Hey Krump. I have both the 533 (couple of years old) and a very old 424 dual burner. I find both great but now days I don't use the 424 a lot, because mostly for a solo trip I generally pre-cook and vacuum seal meals or part meals and then just boil them in the bag. The current dual burner "Powerhouse" model is bigger than my 424 so much better accommodates the practical use of both burners together, mine is only 450mm wide to the Powerhouses 550mm. The Powerhouse and 533 function on the same principle, the key difference is the 533 tank is attached and Powerhouse tank is stored inside and attaches. Both require to be pumped with the fuel vapourised in a manifold over the burner. Dual fuel stoves are pretty economical, my 533 with a full 500ml fuel tank will easily last me a week. Liquid fuel is so so much easier than gas to source and carry, and the Powerhouse will perform pretty much equal to a gas stove with heat BTU within a similar range. The Powerhouse doesn't suffer from the same fickle simmer control as the 533. Coleman dual fuel stoves are also very common in the 2nd hand market, and while parts are common for the Powerhouse and more recent models parts are commonly stocked, parts are problematic and not interchangeable if you buy an older models. They will sort or carbon up over time but are easily cleaned and no parts are required to keep them happy. I look after mine, even with the old 424 Ive not needed anything more than a couple of commonly available fuel rated "O" rings. The age of my 424 is testament to their longevity. I converted to liquid fuel many years ago, and I think only people who have never experienced liquid fuel continue to jerk about with gas
@krump743
@krump743 2 года назад
@@Vagare hey mate thanks for the reply. I decided to go with a 2 burner stove, so i hunted down a second hand unit in a cash converters style store. I think its a 424 version, fits well inside my stove nook in my 4wd setup. I couldnt justify spending 260 to 300 on the newer version of dual stove coleman offers. Fired it up this morning and it works great, might even give it bit of a restore in the future as the paint is showing its age. Still has the price sticker on it from when the original owner bought it from ranger camping lol. I will prolly end up running it on couple bottles of shellite when i go away. Thanks for your feed back it was the final push i needed to give one a go, im going to hunt down a 533 and have that in my kit as well eventually.

Hey mate, thanks for the video. It looks like the only place that sell them in Australia is Amazon You said in the video that you store it in your car, I'd like to do that too but I wasn't sure if it was safe to store petrol inside a vehicle. Where do you keep your fuel for it too btw?
@Vagare
@Vagare Год назад
Hey Josh. Very safe in the car, i carry both the 533 and dual burner 424 in the car. I previously used a Soto Muka petrol hike stove until it failed, and now I use its 1 ltr fuel bottle to store the spare petrol for both Colemans.
@JoshSinnott97
@JoshSinnott97 Год назад
Cheers for the fast reply, I originally looked into the hiking stoves but the pre heating times and the noise of the unit didn't really suit my needs That's good to know, thanks. My original idea was to fit a bin bag on my spare tyre and have a 2L can of petrol and have the 533 in a canvas bag to keep it out of the dust I've heard petrol can cause the generator to clog up faster but I watched one video on RU-vid where the owner said he's only replaced his generator once or twice in 15 years and the trick is to store it pressurised (30 pumps) so that the fuel doesn't sit in the generator. (Another video said not to store it pressurised so know knows aha) I haven't got a 533 yet, I'm just doing my research. A lot of pros to owning this over gas canisters/bottles

hello, I bought coleman 533 10 days ago, I use unleaded gasoline, I burn the stove by following all instructions, but there is a dark leak under the burner during burning, sometimes it turns into a ball of fire. The leak continues even though I clean the generator, please help
@Vagare
@Vagare 3 года назад
Return it. There is a fuel sump under the burner with an absorption material to collect liquid fuel, and the liquid fuel can accumulate in there if it isn't vapourising correctly. Over pressurising can also cause this, as well as the unit being faulty. Let me know how you go

Hey Ian, i find fuel stoves equal to or better than gas as a cooker, and logistically much better. I've cooked many things incl steak etc. Boiling water is the generally accepted stove test. I also use a dual burner fuel stove for multi pot meals if im not cooking on the fire. The 533 is a 10500btu burner so will perform much the same as a good quality gas cooker. I dont need gas bottles and can top up the stove from my lawn mower fuel
