I love the Coleman dome tent I used last summer but it burdened me with weight and lengthy time of assembly during time constants of nightfall. I ended up searching for a perfect solution for those late nigh camp trips. The Colman Instant tent not to be confused by the Coleman Fast Pitch tent. The Instant tent with the Darkroom fabric has some flaws that come with the ease of assembly hence why they have the same tent just with a junction and hook assembly setup like the 2 in 1 tent I have. Lets get into the Pros and cons of this purchase!

Coleman Instant Tents are the only tents I will ever buy. I have bought about 6 in my life and have given them to friends and family.

So I've been looking for a review of this tent vs. the Ozark Trail(OT) version. I ended up buying both and this one certainly stood up against 40 mph winds better than the Ozark Trail one. I didn't have the OT guy lines out though because I was not camping, just water proofing, and didnt expect a lot of wind. However the wind showed up and the stakes came out of the ground and the tent broke. The OT one does seem to block out more sun and have more features like the vents in the bottom, zipping sections on the roof, and the hanging wall organizer. It also provides more room because it stands up straight. I cannot say which is more water repellent as I always use seam sealer and waterproof spray on my tents. The Coleman is a bit more of a pain to set up and take down because it has extra locking joints but the process is still pretty fast. The hinged door took more time to set up but honestly is a great feature because it velcros to the tent so you don't always have to zip it! I would say, if youre camping in the backyard with the kids and don't want the morning sun waking you up, go Ozark Trail. If you may encounter wind or a storm, go Coleman! Also, avoid my mistake and always put out the stakes and guy lines and waterproof it. Of course this is for people, like me, who are looking for a comparison, not just a review on this tent.

Was it instead or fast pitch Coleman darkroom? I think the fast pitch would be sturdier but the instant tent is no doubt faster to put up.

This looks nice , I'm looking to replace a ozark 6 person tent that I used heavy for 7 years before it fell apart last year. This tent peaks my interest , I'm just worry about how sturdy it is. My Ozerk withstood heavy rain and 50 mph winds. So I have high standards.

I’m sure it will if you use all the stakes (recommend aftermarket lags). Unsure if 50mph is suitable since instant tents are not as sturdy especially with high roof lines. A dome tent with fiberglass rods are better for high speed wind. The 7’ roofline will catch a lot of wind

I saw a review online saying it stood up well in 40 mph winds. Said it was a pain to set up in wind but did fine once fully set up.

I have a tent similar to this and it requires you to pull down on the middle hub to add tension and make it stand strong and sturdy. Check if yours has this.

Another good tent is the 2 in 1 10’x10’ if you don’t mind the 7’+ height and weight for assembly, also provided they still sell them. It’s my favorite due to its full walking ability, my only complaints are no sturdy door, no darkness and how many heavy parts there are. The dark room tent has 3 drawbacks, it can be hot due to the darkroom if in direct sunlight all day (no breath ability unless opened), not tall everywhere and it’s not as sturdy. They also sell a version that isn’t instant and has traditional fiberglass poles which might be a better option. Instant tent or fast pitch? Both look the same. I never use either but the one seems real flimsy on top may bottom base stakes is all that’s needed.

PROJECT ANUBIS Mine is an instant setup. Normally i do secure guy lines on my tents but never have with this one and haven’t had any issues. Once I put the Rainfly on and attach rain fly to poles and stake down the base, it’s sturdy.

I always buy everything on eBay and Amazon. You may want to try Costco if you have one of those near or even potentially a sporting good store if Walmart is sold out. Hope this helps. My apologies for the late reply I don’t get the notifications all the time.

I don't like it when tent say they can fit a queen size a twin to King's mattresses and it but did I mean it can fit two Queen's right next to each other or will there be space between them

Its all marketing, the images show everyone in a sleeping bag packed in like sardines. 10'x10' will fit one queen or king size mattress and have room to move. The 10'x10' will fit 2 queens snug with a 2' foot room just for an idea of size. Just remember the peak style tents have a angle / draft that avoids head space on the walls. This makes your mattress have to offset from the wall if its double height to avoid from touching the walls and moisture from entering. I like the Coleman Dome 10x10 because it has a 7' roof and vertical walls; the only issue is the poles are metal and the thing weighs 50lbs but good quality. I got this 10'x14' tent for the use of 2 air mattresses because sometimes we take people that never been camping and its a good compromise with size (to fit in a campsite area with decently level ground) and have a hangout area.

The only concern I have is the plastic bits. The poles are string but lack sturdiness in the hub above. It is super easy and quick to setup. Its a compromise for all tents ease vs durability. I like the fiberglass style tents and they make one in this but longer setup time.

I haven’t had it long enough to test it since the COVID kinda put a dampener on vacations.... it’s not for rain but it should be sprinkle resistant you might need to put seam sealer on it for the thread. You would need a fourth season tent for any actual rain usage since they are made out of a canvas material. All the nylon style tents will be more of a three season tent but will resist a light drizzle and dew in the morning as long as you don’t touch the fabric because once you touch the fabric the water wicks inward. The base of this tent is a tub style floor which will keep water from coming in if for some reason it happened to be set up in a hole in water happen to fill it since it is a tarp. It mainly depends on your mattress’ measurements and how much room you required for personal space lol. Typically 2 (3 tightly maybe) queen size air mattresses with room so maybe 4 (5 tightly maybe) twins. Without a air mattress It claims to fit 10 people (most over sale actuality) but realistically I’d say about 6 to 8 people is ideal unless you want to lay side-by-side like sardines 🐠 . An easy way to figure out how much room you will have by keeping in mind that you need room to move around a little bit measure your mattress length and width and see how you could strategically place your air mattress is within a 14’ x 10‘ space. Before this ten I had a 10‘ x 10‘ Coleman 2 in 1 tent and I was able to fit two queen size air mattresses (snugly) with some bulge out the side of the tent and I had maybe about 3 feet by the door to move around in. I will only camp 2 queens and maybe 1 twin, but no more than that, I like my space to get ready. I’d only camp a queen and a twin in a 10’ x 10’ tent. Also remember there’s a fast pitch tent (same look, different assembly) and an instant tent which is what this is. I hope this helps clarify your question.

Nothing on a budget is rainproof, the seams will leak and the nylon sweats in the morning just from dew if you touch it. You will have to treat any budget tent. It’s expensive but for the size it’s still a budget tent. It’s water resistant but not rain resistant. The base is also a tarp style with tub layout which keeps water out unlike other brands that use the same side material on the base.

Sorry for the late reply something is wrong with youtube notifications. In the middle one typically for a light or small fan wich take D batteries (that sucks). I recommend buying a portable jobsite fan like Milwaukee or Dewalt since batteries will last longer and can be used for your power tools. If you have other things that you use the batteries for (jobsite light, chainsaw, drill, leaf blower - for cleaning the tent and blowing the mattress up) they will always be apart of your camping kit.

What am I doing wrong? I've followed manufacturer instructions and watched this video multiple times. All top poles extended and locked, all legs extended and locked. But my tent is completely unstable and leans -- and almost collapses -- to one side. I try to adjust the legs and pull the ground sheet tort but then it collapses the other way. Meanwhile the side poles (which as this video notes do not extend at the top part) are about half an inch off the ground.

@@ProjectAnubisUSA I can see on the video that you have a bit of the same problem with leaning as I have, though yours ends up more upright than I can get mine (mine leans at a 45 degree angle, effectively bending some of the poles with the weight of the tent as it leans ) I gave up tonight as night fell, but will try to get the fly and lines on tomorrow to see if that fixes it. @@martinspence5117 Make sure the top web hub Pivots upward enough or else it will sag and the poles will pivot inward more than usual. Mine leans more than I like until I put the rainfly up to pull a lot of tension across the roof with the shock cord unlike a dome tent that has natural arch tension this rectangle design requires help from the shock cord and guy lines. The guy lines will help when pulled from the top of the rainfly using lag bolts ratcheting in the ground with a washer because they drive the tension down without ease of release. Another reason why this tent has trouble staying up is because the polls pivot/ rotate in the center hub and knuckles on the corners.

I know it's in too tight a spot at the moment to stake down, so I'll move it to front yard and see what I can do.

@@martinspence5117 you need the rainfly and flat land to start. Mine did this also. I pulled out the center poles the the end poles evenly to get it to stand somewhat without a rainfly. I believe I mentioned this issue in the video and argued with a commenter because they said you should always use guy lines, which on a dome tent you’re fine without unless you have high wind issues.

I agree to an extent only because I haven’t actually used it so I couldn’t speak on it but as I put it up it did seem really flimsy. Others have commented below and said it was sturdy. I believe they use all the tension lines and stakes which I did not. When I get a chance to take it camping I will put it there to test since Covid happened I could not get it it to the campsite 🏕. Also they have A fast pitch tent that should be stronger due to the fiberglass construction on top. With an instant tent I would assume all of them (instant tents) will be flimsy since the Ozark was the same way but it was only a 10 x 10 so the stature was smaller so it wasn’t as apparent. It may be designed that way so everything has a loose tolerance and doesn’t bind and bend when setting up and taking down.

Belinda Mcleod on your instant tent (not fast pitch tent for those who didn’t know they have two versions) how was the structure of the tent flexing, canted over, lifting due to the aerodynamics. Also, was all the stakes in place or is it possible to leave out a set? How was the water resistance? Thanks for any updates, it’s good to get confirmation on the purchasing value 👍🏻.

Two corner poles failed in first use of tent during wind. I don't recommend this tent.

I'm sorry....but, anyone who does not tie and stake down their tent in the outdoors, IS A FOOL. There are plenty of videos of tents and even bounce houses flying away in strong wind.

Surprise...I to live in 'Cali'. I've camped in Yosemite, Kings Canyon Sequoia, Juliette Phifer Big Sur, Angel Island and half a dozen lakes and reservoirs around the state. And I still say that anyone who doesn't stake and tie down their tent...is asking for a very 'interesting' story to tell in years to come.

Well in the Sierra Nevada’s during summer, I’ve been fortunate enough to be suited well with pitching a tent 🏕 without the rest. Tents are technically luxury and anything big is foolish to have in areas that require guy wires because of high winds... these rooflines are too high and shouldn’t be a tent choice to begin with; a low profile dome tent is more suitable if your interest is technicality. Good information for the beginning camper either way.
