Thank you for posting this. It is exactly what I have been looking for. I used adapters to connect to the bottle fitting and the double regulation lowered the pressure too much and it would not cook like it should. Your solution is better than I was hoping as you can still use bottles when needed. Great Job.

Nice detailed video, very helpful, thank you! I did this modification to my 285 today, it has the same basic setup. Since the M8 X 0.75 fitting is so hard to come by, I used a 5/16" brass compression fitting to connect to the tube instead, worked out well, no leaks. 8MM is within a few thousandths of an inch of 5/16, well withing the working range of a compression fitting.

Could you just hook up a 20 lb propane tank and a hose without a regulator to this grill and let the grill’s built in regulator handle the flow?

I have seen that, but my understanding was that the normal 1lb containers are not made for reuse and that can be a bit dangerous. I think I saw some 1lb containers that are built for it, but they were pricey. I much rather just use the large tank that's mounted to the camper 😁

@LifeIsForEnjoying
@LifeIsForEnjoying Год назад
That's weird...if you're certain that the bottle you're using is full, that would suggest either a problem with the regulator, a leak somewhere, improper jets, or a plumbing issue. Did you get the grill new? I don't recall what the warranty was on this, but seems like they might be able to help you out. If you got it used, it's possible that the jets were replaced to make it use natural gas, instead of propane. I can't remember which jets are bigger/smaller, though.

Hi! Thank you so much for posting this! Had been scratching my head... We just bought a Coleman X-cursion and can't find the infamous M8 adapter... How difficult would it be to remove the regulator altogether? Would you expect it to have another M8 connection on that end too? Does anyone else have a source for the M8 adapter?
@LifeIsForEnjoying
@LifeIsForEnjoying 3 года назад
I did remove the regulator, because I was curious, and it was not difficult, but it was an M8 on that side, too. I am unfortunately out of extras, now, and do not know any other source for them, but let me know if you find any so we can make others aware!
@loblightsonblairmont5892
@loblightsonblairmont5892 3 года назад
So can the regulator be removed completely and then you can just screw a hose into the bottom to connect to the quick connect of the RV? Do you happen to have a video on how to do that part?
@LifeIsForEnjoying
@LifeIsForEnjoying 3 года назад
@@loblightsonblairmont5892 you could certainly do that if you don't plan to ever use the 1lb bottles, and it would probably be the same adaptors and pipes, but no cutting/drilling necessary! I unfortunately do not have a video, but if I recall correctly, there is some sort of square section of the regulator that makes it easier to get a wrench onto it and get it off. I don't think it was super tight, but I believe it had some sort of threadlock on it that needed some elbow grease.

I looked back through my comments and realized it was an email that someone mentioned this in, not a comment...sorry about that. They said "I did have to add another adapter with a plug to the 1lb propane port so gas wouldn’t come out when connecting the new port to the RV" so it may have been a little more than a simple plug, but it does seem to me like screwing on an empty bottle would accomplish the same thing 🤷‍♂️

Heh, that seems a little sketch, but maybe? Some people commented that they had a shop crimp a hose on that seemed like a good alternative if you can't find a fitting...might be worth looking into that option
@marcw201
@marcw201 3 года назад
If it’s the right size it would be strong. It’s soldered with a torch just like copper water pipe which is a real high pressure connection. My concern with the hose crimp would be also using a 16oz propane tank occasionally which is high pressure. It could blow the hose off. If used exclusively as a low pressure grill it would be fine. Would you happen to know what the OD is of the copper tubing?

An M8 x 1.0 would not thread onto the threads that are already there, unless you use a tap and die to re-thread them, but I would definitely be worried about it leaking if you did that. @LifeIsForEnjoying
@LifeIsForEnjoying Год назад
The attachment is at a low-pressure point of the grill, meaning that it must be connected to a low-pressure supply. This can either be just a hose connected to a RV propane system that has a system-wide regulator at the tank, or a 20lb tank with the hose/regulator combo.
