UPDATE! Our regulator from propanegear.com went bad after about 6 months. After a few emails and no response, we decided to try some parts of Amazon. Not only did the parts work well, the adjustable regulator lets us really crank up the flow. WAY more than we need to, but it's nice to have the flexibility. It might also come in handy if we ever get a gas firepit. New links are below!
We likely could have gotten Propane Gear to replace the regulator if we'd sent more follow-up emails. But, I wanted to try less expensive parts from Amazon anyway.
Propane Gear is still a great way to go if you have no idea what connections you need, so we're leaving that part of the original article.
---------------------------------------------
Well over a year after getting our Blackstone Griddle (changinglanesr..., we still LOVE it and cook on it all the time! But there was always one thing I dreaded about setting it up - the propane hose!
Finding a hose to reach from the propane tank on the RV and connect to the griddle was no problem. I found one on Amazon the first week we had the griddle. The host itself worked just fine and twelve feet was plenty of length to run down inside the propane bay and over to the Blackstone. However, what I didn't know at the time is, because the regulator is on the grill end of the hose, the hose is of the high-pressure variety and VERY stiff!
Uncoiling this stiff hose was always the longest part of the setup. To make the hose usable I would have to bend it in the opposite direction of the coil, running the whole length of the host several times. And, of course it just wanted to coil back up again. Finally, one day while unbending the hose, I got a little too aggressive and broke it! Time to cancel steak night and find another solution!

These are the parts we recently used from Amazon (see note at beginning of article).
✅ Gauge Master Premium Propane Splitter: amzn.to/31B5jvp
✅ GASPRO 4FT 20 PSI Adjustable High Pressure Propane Regulator with Hose: amzn.to/37dcDyx
This regulator and hose will allow me to connect a quick-disconnect fitting to a bracket on the RV frame later on for an even quicker setup.
NOTE: You are responsible for regulating the PSI down. At its full 20PSI, it's like a bonfire under our griddle and likely dangerous to leave that way. USE WITH CAUTION!
✅ Anderson Metals Brass Tube Fitting, Half-Union, 3/8″ Flare x 1/4″ Male Pipe: amzn.to/2H6zGjP
This is to connect the quick-disconnect to the hose from the regulator.
✅ GASPRO 1/4 Inch RV Propane Quick Connect Fitting: amzn.to/2H2VJbd
This connects to the regulator hose using the fitting above.
✅ MENSI 12FT Male/Female Quick-Connect RV Propane Hose for Blackstone Griddles: amzn.to/379rLg9
To connect to the Blackstone.

Hmmm...I just purchased the 12' quick release hose w/adapter from propanegear.com. I also purchased the adapter so I can use the hose to my newly purchased propane gas fire pit. just now saw your update on the propane gear regulator...I sure hope I don't experience the same problem you did. The folks at propanegear.com were very helpful in getting me setup with everything needed to use the hose on two appliances. Now I don;t need to carry an extra propane tank.
@rogerwoodward9548
@rogerwoodward9548 4 года назад
I just spoke with Nick at Propanegear.com. My 12' hose will be using one of the three regulators in my TT that are already setup for quick connect/releaset to appliances such as the Blackstone Griddle and the fire pit. All will be connected with one hose and two adapters only. I feel confident this setup should be fine since I am not using an after market regulator for either appliance. Regardless, thanks for helping me find a great solution to avoid having to either remove a propane tank from the travel trailer for the griddle and fire pit, or carry an extra bulky propane tank with me.

Awesome! Our Fuzion came with a hard line under the RV and a quick connect on the curb side from the factory. Ours has 2 tanks up front side by side and one of those automatic switches. I do think adding that gas-off device is a good idea! Got to check mine and see if I can use 1 or need 2

Nice. For those who own rigs that have an external stovetop (e.g. GD Imagine 2670MK), much of the hardware mentioned is already built-in. In addition to a grill, an LP-compatible genny might be an option (although probably not both at the same time). We'll be checking into that in the Spring of 2020. Happy trails!

I’m surprised your rig didn’t come with a separate line from your tank setup to the side of y our rig. Most do. Then you just quick connect to that line. The issue there is removing the grill regulator as you can have two inline to get correct pressure but that’s another hack to perform. Did you look for a separate gas line under your rigs belly?

*Not what i was looking for, ran out of propane at 1:00 AM hard learned lesson waking up freezing like that, LUCKILY i still have my old RV on site and i was able to steal the tanks out of it. one of which was still 1/4 of the way full, wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't 30 degrees out right now. still got to get my water line built and burried and then hook up the heated electrical water line to the RV so we don't have PEX lines to replace soon too so yeah lots to do but still learning lessons very much the hard way. also about to replace my refrigerator. bought a10cu ft all electrical one to put in place yesterday but haven't swapped it out yet, it's so cold out right now i should be ok tonight. my rv fridge is leaking amonia so it has to be replaced and i don't have the spare $1700.00 to buy a new one or the $700 to replace the cooling unit on the back either. I did have the $330.00 the replacement all electrical refrigerator cost me however. yeah i'm cheap too but i got an off the shelf model at Home Depot that was $389 and asked them to knock some off since it was out of box and had scratches on the back of it. $50.00 was what they offered i took it! this refrigerator will fit in exactly where my Dometic was too it's about 2" shorter but has way more room and it's more efficient so i am counting this a complete win at this point. where else are you going to get a proper refrigerator freezer the right size to fit where the camper fridge sits and one that gives you more storage room inside* ?

I replumbed some of the steel pipe for my quick connects under my trailer for a more sturdy mount. The valves shouldn't move or leak but with Murphy's Law, I feel better about any potential leak being on the exterior of my trailer. I may even add a more durable gas valve than the light weight ones that are normally used on these set ups. I am contemplating an interior quick connect for Mr. Heater vs a solid installation without any hoses.

@jpvcwby
@jpvcwby 3 года назад
Does your RV not have a quick connect somewhere for propane? Mine has it for the outdoor 2 burner stove. I bought a Y-splitter and connected to my propane outlet for the outdoor 2 burner. Now I can run that and use a quick connect hose running to my blackstone tabletop griddle. It all runs off of the 2 main propane tanks for my trailer, no need for a 3rd tank.
@oysterjohn5669
@oysterjohn5669 2 года назад
I have heard that the flexible propane hoses can break down inside and leach an oily substance into regulators and orifices causing problems. The stiff ones are stiff because they are made of something that can hold up to propane. This came from an RV tech. Just passing this along FYI.

Chad, based on your update it sounds like you now have to hook up the new regulator on the 4’ hose to the Y on the tank and the 12 ‘ quick disconnect hose you show the link for to that ..? That puts the shutoff valve at the grill end which leaves your hose filled with propane when disconnected doesn’t it? You still need a shutoff after the regulator don’t you? What did I miss?

The regulator is still at the propane tank just after the Y. It's just an adjustable regulator now.

Ordered the hose and attachment to connect to Treadstone before your vid was even over! I already have two quick connects spots outside, one at the outdoor kitchen to hook the kitchen cooktop to, and one at the back of the trailer...I guess in case I want to grill way back there because I smell bad or something...so all I needed was the hose and Treadstone attachment. I quit using the Treadstone because with the little green bottle it never got hot enough to work right. I can't wait to try it on a 30lb bottle! Hope the potatoes turned out OK, lol

How do you store the griddle when you’re traveling? Big storage bin? Bag? I’ve got the 22” and can’t seem to find a bin big enough for it.

We have a large basement... So it just sits in there, towel over the top, and the stand on top of that.

That's awesome. Thanks guys. Been a while since I've been able to respond. Was in a serious vehicle accident April 30th. Not able to type. But I'm alive.. Have been watching you though, keeps me calm.

My class C came with a quick connect from the factory. Of course it connects to the system after the onboard regulator. What I am wondering is if I could connect a portable tank with a regulator on it to use so I don’t have to tear down and go fill the onboard tank if it goes empty?

This system should work on any tank, directly connected. Be sure to see the description for the latest info on our newest variable regulator.

Thank you guys for the info.. Would a 4 port "extend a stay" accomplished the same goal? My propane tank is an asme fixed mount
@ChangingLanes
@ChangingLanes 4 года назад
I think it would, but the line would then be high pressure and need a regulator on the grill end of the hose. And it's those high pressure hoses that are super stiff. I would give propanegear.com a call or email and get a dialog started with them about your options... 👍🏼

I'm surprised that you're camper did not come with a connection for propane like ours did on the bottom near the rear. Love the endings with the outtakes, and great video.

Our 2015 had connections, or newer 2017 dosen't so strange.

@ChangingLanes
@ChangingLanes 4 года назад
yes.. 30 lb. Usage varies a lot. Boondocking and using LP fridge, cold temps using furnace etc. Maybe once every other month on average?
