A little over a year ago I found a 426D at the Salvation Army for around $15. Bought it, pulled the old Dirt Dobber nest out of it, cleaned it up, repaired what needed repaired and the thing has become a cherished piece of camping gear for my family. It's like 6 years older then I am and I'll probably be handing it down to my grand kids one day.
Seeing *SO* many Coleman stove videos lately! So I had to dig my old 431 "Tourist" out of the crawlspace and see if it still works! Sure does! I'll be giving it a little cleanup and be ready for emergencies. Thanks for the video!

You have some beautiful Coleman camp stoves.I love to see old Coleman’s working so fine. I say they are prized for their simplicity an functioning.I believe that they would be serious treasured in the event of a apocalypse especially if fuel is available!!!
I have 2 out of the three you have. My next purchase is going to be the 413 model. Gotta get me a griddle for my 3 burner. Great idea. I do not camp in -20 so I have a butane stove by my tent that I start with my coffee pot. Go back and relax. Nice video.

I literally bought a vintage one off of eBay (should be here in a couple days)... Just so I could BBQ and cook sides without running from the driveway to the kitchen every few minutes + keeps the house cooler not to have the oven /stove going.
@@johnnygunz2300 Johnny, you got it! Suggestion, get a Coleman stove stand and place a 2" x 10" x 48" board across it. Now you have a place for your stove with side table for utensils, ingredients and such. It'll keep your work bench clear for prep. Skillet
Thanks for the video. I JUST acquired a 3 burner stove and am anxious to use it. I do like the idea of being able to use a griddle and coffee pot or cook pot at the same time. Thank you again for the video and hope to see more in the future.
Just found a 3 burner (426D) today on Craiglist. Still had the original box and manuals for $35. Looks like it was only used a handful of times. Can't wait to take it camping!
..I got one of those Propane generators for my stoves so the wifey can get the stove running just in case. How about doing a video and discussing the ovens you can use Shane? Still some more Nice stoves you got there..!!
I've got a 432 model. Was a thrift store find. Just cleaned it up and poured a little white gas in the tank but cant seem to build any pressure. Did you have to get new seals for your stove??
The left most one with the legs that also lock the lid the one we had when I was growing up. Nothing like hearing it going in the morning to know that breakfast was being made by mom. :) brings back memories.
Coleman, as American as apple pie and baseball, and like apple pie and baseball popular where ever it goes, if you have never owned one,and had the experience of firing it up,hearing it burn and prepare a meal or just a hot drink you have missed out on an experience working having, if you even believe that SHF could ever happen, or power is ever going to drop for a couple of days you should have one of these reliable stoves
I recently purchased a 425 Coleman stove, made in 1984. I've watched a number of videos about cleaning and maintenance but so far, I haven't seen anyone discuss the gas tank itself. How should the inside of the gas tank be cleaned, if at all? My stove is in good shape. Thanks for your videos!
Mix about 3 ounces of clean coleman fuel with the same amount of carburetor cleaner and shake it vigorously. Leave it sit over night then drain. You will be amazed at the amount of crud you can remove this way. Keep repeating till the fluids look fairly clean. you will never get it all out, but a small amount of crud doesn't seem to affect them.
You know if you have an old Coleman if the fill cap is accessible like in the video. The newer ones have the fill cap towards the front of the stove and you have to remove the tank to refill them.
I have a 3 burner that I haven't used for at least a decade and it's accumulated a lot of dust and insects that I need to clean out before I try it again. What I don't remember is whether it needs to be pumped up the 35-40 times every time I use it if it's still set up or just after I add more fuel to it? May I assume I would have to pump more if the tank is half empty compared to full?
hello I just had a question for you. I'm a longtime subscriber and was wondering as you seem to know a lot about this Coleman stoves... what's the difference between a Coleman number 2 stove and the coleman number 2c?
I have a 2 burner style one but there is a slow leak on mine. No fuel comes out of it , only the air so it seems. The thing works but when the nob is turned on off I still hear air coming out of it. what could be the problem
Hey buddy how's it going? Had a question for you, long time subscriber by the way love the Coleman videos. I noticed in this video you use the three stoves and on the one stove you have that one pound propane tank with the adapter that you're using. Basically my question is I was looking to use that adapter with propane in case of emergency if I didn't have any white gas or Coleman fuel or whatever. Do you know by any chance in the three burner stove I'm pretty sure it is the 426b. Could you try or do you know if you lift up one of the greats on the 3 burner 4 to 6 be can you fit the one pound propane tank behind the burners and next to the manifold and then put the great down without a touching? Only wondering because that would be an incredible way just to have everything in one suitcase Coleman stove that way. Let me know when you get this would be greatly appreciated I don't have my stove yet so I can't try it but let me know if you could or if you know thanks again for everything. Hi Van Life, sorry for the slow response. Yes one of the 1lb bottles will fit, in fact, I can fit two of them in mine along with the red tank. However, I don't know if the propane bottles will have enough pressure to run all 3 burners at the same time, but you can always just use two of them instead. I have a 1940's PREWAY 2 Burner Camp Stove, my parents bought when they got married, it's is converted to propane, and I will never buy 1 drop of Coleman fuel, I hated pumping that stove up as a kid
Have herd the newer Coleman stoves are crap, What date(s) should I be looking for? 60's 70's or 80's and how about parts for the older out of production models?
On the newer stoves the case is frequently painted grey with a crinkled finish. The sheet metal is a thinner guage and corners aren't as nicely rounded. They are lighter and fully functional. Not junk but cheaper to build. Many are rated duel fuel gasoline/Coleman fuel and have a grey vs red tank. Parts are readily available going back to 1950's models.
Gday I have a coleman 414 dual fuel stove and I took the main burner apart to clean and saw it had a white ring gasket I got a replacement one and now I carnt remember where it is positioned in the stack of ring can you help cheers
Possibly you might have a leak on the tip part of your generator. Unscrew and clean. When reassembling use some nail polish on the tread to seal up any gaps.
When i get one that acts that way it is usually spiders that have built webs in the manifold. I run a zip tie thru there and look for webbing to come out.

@@SWPhotography is the inner generator pin that long skinny part ment to remain attached when you remove the tube? i could not remove the inner broken one, i was fearful of bending it, if i can remove it i have a replacement inner one that i could insert
so when i take the generator off the inner skinny part that is broken the thin wire at the end of it broke, so i am getting no flow, anyway when i remove the generator the inner thin wire part remains attached to the black knob, will that inner thin part come off?

Hi John, This is your 5th comment that you've made about a 4 burner Coleman stove. The only two models of Coleman stoves that I know of with 4 burners are the 900 and the 914, and they are both cabin/kitchen style stoves. I'm sure there could be more though. As far as camp stoves go they didn't make any 4 burner ones that I have ever seen. There are a few of them out there but they are homemade ones. I have made a few myself out of the larger 426 stoves cases and adding burners from two different 425s. I sold those years ago and maybe it's possible that you have one of those.
Shane - Blind Dog Blades yea the one I saw was one called an Omari but it really not a Coleman but sure does look like one . Its on ebay right now but I did try to look up parts for it but no where to be found. I just bought a 414 2 burner stove hope the propane adapter fits on that .i like your videos. Let me know if you look at the Omari stove on ebay would like to know your thoughts thanks.
I have a 3 burner 426C doing a rebuild. I'm tracking down the gasket for the gas cap. I noticed there was a hole on the side of the gas cap...any chance you might know what the function of that hole? I see it on the older stoves and lanterns too. Any help appreciated!
DH L That’s a 3 piece fuel cap. Unlike the modern ones that are a solid one piece with slits cut in the threads to vent downwards, those vent sideways, right through that hole. That hole is to vent pressure from the tank as you unscrew the cap.
You can use Coleman fuel or Crown fuel that is cheaper. Regular unleaded gasoline will also work with a few caveats. It smells It leaves soot on your pots It will tend to clog your generator faster. Gasoline that has ethanol in it will attract moisture, don't leave it in your tank. The tank could rust. Rusty tank pressurized and filled with gasoline next to a flame 🔥 isn't a good idea!
@@98katman Thanks, I switched to straight (real gasoline in lawnmower, weed eater etc a couple of years back, have been amazed at the difference. I understand about the rust.
Yes, you need a propane converter for the stove, Made by a company called Stansport I think, then Coleman sells a conversion hose that will attach to the stansport converter then to your 20 Gallon tank. Cost now for both pieces $40 to $50, but will last forever.
The problem with using petrol is the generator gets dirty real fast so ya need to keep it clean. Some of the newer Dual Fuel coleman stoves may work better for it than the older ones.
