This week was full of surprises. I thought I lost something that was found when rearranging my office, the other day. There it was a small square red and white box and the name Colgate Shaving Mug Soap. I thought for sure it was gone. I had lost it years ago, I had no time to hunt for it back then but there it was. Don't let this little shaving soap fool you. If I could find another one I'd grab it up because I did a quick google search and if you can find one you're going to be sending a lot more than I did.
I purchased mine on eBay and without any other bidders jacking up the price I was able to get two of them at 4 dollars I still don't know where the other one is. At the time I was into vintage straight and DE razors, soaps, creams anything. I was buying up so much crap I had to just stop and take note at what I was doing but that was a long time ago and after my stay at I still get the bug every now and then. I think I need Wet Shavers Rehab
When you take the soap out of its packaging there is no other inner wrapping just a puck in a cardboard box. The face of the puck has a little stamp denoting that it is a Colgate product.
The scent of this puck really disappointed because there is none. I guess back then scent was not as important as it is today. I moved on to the process of should I bowl or use a mug to lather. The puck was screaming mug but I didn't listen I went with bowl lather. This is a really hard soap and I knew I was going to have to do a little blooming first. I placed it right into the bowl and ran hot water over it until it just covered the top of the puck and let it sit in the bath for over 2 to 3 min. People always remind me that I should use the bloom water to wet my face before I shave but I didn't do that either. I wet my brush which has a real good backbone and started. I was amazed at how it allowed me to create a thick creamy lather in no time at all. I had created so much lather the brush almost disappeared.
When applying it felt great going on it got right into my beard and provided great coverage. It reminded me of shaving foam but in a good way if you know what I mean. During the shave, I had no problems with slickness and glide allowing me to run my razor many time over trouble spots. Another surprise was the post shave feel it was excellent you would never have guessed that this shave was from a puck that only costs a few bucks.
So, Like I said get online and start looking see if you can find one because I think the word is out on this puck already and once you try it you'll understand why I was so surprised.
