The ending scene where Pen overhears him telling the other men he would never court her makes me so sad for her and it's so much more traitorous than in the books :( Not only did he break her heart by talking of her in that way, but he also ruined any possibility of her having suitors in the future. I have a deep need for season 3 to show Penelope letting her inner bad chick come out in the open and also to have him literally pining after her because she honestly deserves it after all this.
yes, I completely agree with you! i have a theory: I think that Penelope will write this in the Lady W. , all Londra will read it. Antony and Kate will read it, and Kate could talk about with Antony, because also he in the past did the same thing. Antony, will understand the why Penelope runnied away crying to the party. If you remember, Antony see Penelope, because he searching Kate. Anyway, I think Antony will go to Colin and he talk about with him. Perhaps he will scold him, and will make him understand how much he hurt Penelope, also ruining her reputation in front of other men. Anyway, I hope that Penelope will have a suitor and Colin will eat the words and his hands!
In the book I thinks it's worse cause it was in front of his brother's but she was bad ass in how she replied back and told him off then Antbony walks her home.
some y’all in the comments really do be giving men too much credit. just admit that colin was a total ass here. no one deserves to be talked like that behind their backs. it’s quite literally fucked up. no matter the relationship or reasoning
Popular himbos do not really see the merit of their words. Throw some drinks and drinking budies to them, and see the harm they can cause. But the moment was important. She will see him as a human being, not someone to worship... and behave more naturally and casually around him.
It’s sad how we went from him rejecting Cressida to dance with Pen to him talking behind her back disgracefully. Poor Pen. Can’t wait for her to make them pay for it 😂
I hate the fact that Colin goes from like he just “saved” them from scandal, he asks Pen if she’s okay, he dances with her, tells her he’ll always look out for her and that she’s special to him - like that’s all like be still by Polin shipper heart. But not ten minutes later Colin turns around and says to other men (probably not intending to be malicious but 🙈) and say oh yeah I wouldn’t dream of courting Pen, like that’s a mad notion. Like honestly Colin I loved you but that is a horrible thing to say. You need to pick a lane, either you will protect her always or you will ruin her, stop with the mixed signals she deserves better.
This is def what boys do, so easily influenced by the toxic masculinity enforced by their peers 🙄 he will def be chasing after pen after realizing how dumb he was … SO EXCITED FOR SEASON 3
I don’t think that he said that he will never court her in a mean way, it’s just that he only sees her as a friend for now, even if it’s obvious that he’s catching feelings, he’s not fully aware yet. He also seems drunk so idk but I really don’t think that he truly wanted to humiliate her
@@susivarga7303 Yeah he quite literally said "Are you mad? I would never dream of courting Penelope". He laid it out plainly to them that to even suggest he would even date someone like "her" would be crazy - given his high status, that can only be interpreted in one way, that she is far beneath him. It's a terrible thing to say and it's good that Penelope addressed it soon afterward.
I can’t watch this without hearing Nicola Coughlan joking about her hair in this scene in one of her PR videos. “That’s the scene in which Colin was like ‘I would never court Penelope Featherington’ and I’m like ‘IS IT BECAUSE OF MY HUGE BUN 😩’”
It was so much crueler than in the books. In the books Colin only talked with his brothers, and he only said that because they teased him and he got defensive. He was already unsure of his feelings and wanted his brothers to leave him alone. He wouldn't in a million years would have said any of it, knowing she heard
It took me a minute to really understand the implications of the things Colin says about Penelope. Its not even just his words, its his actions. Those other men saw him dancing with Penelope. Just that simple exchange of time could have boosted her chances to have a few suitors. But he more or less dashes those chances by stating he'd never court Penelope. He may not have meant to hurt her or ruin her chances, but he did. Watching Penelope make him eat his words next season is going to give me life❤😊
I hate the way they changed this scene. In the books, Colin was only talking to his brothers because their mother kept bringing up Penelope to him. He would never forsake her in front of strangers in such a demeaning way.
Some of you are forgetting.. he'll never dream of courting her.. he didn't court her. He asked for marriage.. STRAIGHT AWAY! He did dream of kissing her, so yeah there's that
❤❤❤ I can't wait to see these two for the third season!!! I can't wait to see him get jealous of other men loving Penelope. I want to see the passion and desire 💓 we all see between them.
"I will always look after you, Penelope. You are special to me." ❤❤❤❤ bro should've stopped talking there instead of running his mouth to his mates 😢😢 while I love a good heartbreak and pt1 of se3 has been to my liking so far, I hope for more grovelling 😂😂
I really do wish they'd follow the books more in book colin and his brothers are talking and pen overhears them and there is quite an interesting conversation ahead it would've been such fun if it was included in the movie
In the book he know she heard immediately and was ashamed of himself on the spot. What Whistledown wrote about the event in himself was indeed bittersweet. She didn't tell about what was said but she was like yeah that girl have no chance to wed one of the brothers.
This specific scene made me watch bridgerton and as much as I hate what Colin did, there's some chemistry between the two. Nic and Luke had played there characters well making you care about them.😊
Okay, I like RMB.. .BUT I wish they kinda take more from the fanfics for season 3. Penelope not answering his letters, being indifferent or formal with him, Colin realizing he fucked up, lots and lots of pining and Grovelling for Colin....that's all we want 😭
This is just my theory, but i dont think Colin meant it in a cruel way when he said he'd never court Penelope. There were other episodes where Fife is mentioned, and that can't be a coincidence. Also considering how Luke and Nicola say how they're dive right into the season, Colin won't even have to court Pen bc they've known each other for so many years so he's just going to go straight to proposing and then marrying the girl cause even he learns he's wasted time being blind of what was right in front of him
I remember fife being mentioned by Colin before, and that can't be a coincidence. My theory is that guy as well as the others, are sleazeballs and probably showed interest in Pen, and Colin being Bridgerton gives him some power. Think of Simon and how all the dudes became interested in Daphne cause he was. Colin holds that power and it's like if a Bridgerton wouldn't then I don't wanna embarrass myself so I won't either. But this is just my theory, I can't imagine him being s1 level of stupid after the secret plotting he did for a few episodes of s2 to expose jack
A bridgerton saying , he won't court her ! Reduces all chances for Penelope 🥺 to find any suitors... ofcourse Colin didn't mean in malicious way... but he did her wrong
@@kalyanibhosale756 he subconsciously doesn’t want Pen to have any suitors, but will feel bad when he finds out she heard him and try to make it up to her. He is swimming in denial river with his feelings. Can’t wait for him to get out and realize he’s down bad.. I hope for a lot of groveling and jealous Colin next season.
That scene is so out of character for Colin, it doesn't make sense. Maybe he was indeed drunk, but the Colin that was so aware of what is expected of gentleman wouldn't do that. Can't wait for the next season to shed light in this particular moment, because it felt like a complete personality transplant to me.
@@PolinContent You know, I hope there was more to that scene than they let on, like we only saw what Penelope saw, but he might have said something else that we didn’t see.
He should of told those who were laughing at them while they were dancing later that Pen was the most beautiful, intelligent, dignified lady of their entire world. He NEVER had to worry about PEN doing scandalous things behind his or his families' or her family either. She wrote the newsletter because she was challenging society rules and the Queen's judgement of her diamond. Like El who got caught with radicals should of did what Pen told her to do and leave those people alone and Pen should of told her that she was writing the newsletter because El would of kept her secret and helped her friend like Pen-El was wanting to challenge the whole marriage for titles and money. Because it 100 years later their society burned to the ground due to WWI and it was a shock to their whole world.
I haven't read the books only seen the series, so kindly don't get mad at me. Is it so bad that Colin said he would never court Pen? I understand he likely ruined the chances of Pen getting a lot of suiters and I agree that it was a dick move. From what I have seen, Colin is a simpleton and trusts easily. He has also implied enough times that Pen is special to her. Could it be possible that he meant that he would never court Pen as she is a good friend and her sister's best friend too. Is it right to get mad at a person if he/she doesn't feel the same about you, but rather values your friendship more. Are people not allowed to feel differently?
I don't think colin really meant at the end that he would never court penelope I think he was just trying to be smart and silly in front of his idiot mates and i bet if he was own afterwards thinking about the awful thing he said about penelope he would of been feeling bad about it but wouldn't say sorry to her as at the time he didn't think she heard him say anything so would of just kept quite
Wait. So at 0:37 are those the same man Colin is talking to at the end? And one of them isnt in the beggining of the season talking to Anthony about getting girls "wed, bed, bred and returning to more pleasureble persuits" or whatever? I'm having thoughts here...
Yes one of them is Fife. He also watched pen at the Bridgerton ball on their estate. He seems off so maybe Colin tried to reduce his interest. He holds power as a Bridgerton similar to what Simon did with Daphne in season 1 (showing interest so other men will show interest, he will use that in season 3 to find her suitors) but he could have worded that better
