Not at all surprised he's such a grounded chill guy. And I know it's stupid to say he looks like his Dad because _duh_ of course he does, but sometimes he makes a face or a certain mannerism and it's like seeing a clone of 80s Tom.
I dont agree with the notion that work has to be your passion. Sometimes work is just work. You can have your passions separately and still enjoy your life. I think this is an important message for many young kids, who start work then quit because the “passion isn’t there“. I also think sometimes it can take time to become passionate about something. Like when you start a job and you’re not very good, it’s not as fun, but when you have done it for so long and you’re THE expert that itself can be fulfilling and give you “passion”.
I think its more industry dependent. Because broadly speaking I agree with you. But if you are specifically in a career like acting where its so competitive and the rejection is so brutal I do probably think if you don’t have passion its the wrong industry. Its much easier to “be” a engineer or a teacher or a IT person than an entertainer making a living in Hollywood.
Ha, Conan and I were both in Chicago in 1988, both with no A/C in the hottest summer in record, I believe 15 days were over 100 with the full-on Midwest humidity and none of the famous Chicago wind (that’s for the winter...). We went to movies just for the AC. Wish I’d seen his stage show, if it was cool ...
Best advice I got from Tom Hanks is always go behind 40 building to smoke & go see Forrest Gump. He gave our commencement address for my graduating class. Skyline High School C/O of 94 !!
I liked when he said "this is either the greatest or worst job in the world". If you think acting is ever at any point comparable to some of the worst jobs people do to put food on the table, you live an incredibly privileged life.
I love when bitter small-minded people pick apart every single statement a person makes so they can feel as superior to them as possible. Must be great to bitch about actors and act like it's not a real job while completely ignoring actual malicious forces in the world like corporations and political money. You're typing on a phone, wearing clothes, and eating food made with child and/or slave labor. Obviously it's hard to get by in the world without those things but when you start acting like you're better than "big bad Hollywood actors" while still utilizing those things you have zero credibility.
Or Tom Hanks could be one of those parents who will let his kids figure stuff out themselves. Which is way better then just handing over bags of money and probably getting a spoiled dependant kid for it in return.
Lol...I know 😅 but he's a great guy considering the kind of insanely privileged upbringing he had. And it's totally inevitable and not his "fault" (many of us would like that fault lol). But none of Tom Hanks' kids ever had to take any real challenges (financially, that is), their parents clearly love them very much.
@@Kinikia95 Nope, untill yesterday I wasn't aware of Tom Hanks kids. Anyway, guess many would try to support their kids in some way. But at some point, you better figure out what you want to do.
Must be nice to be able to pick and choose who you want to be without anything to hold you back. I wish all of us knew what it was like. Most people in this world have no options when it comes to who they become, no matter what the Hollywood storytelling narratives would have you believe.
I get it now. Whether you're flipping greasy burgers over a hot stove or a rich celebrity, it really comes down to enjoying what you do. Thanks, Colin.
I like Colin.. he's always been a humble guy... but to say he could face months of unemployment ... I'm pretty sure he's never has had to worry about rent or food on the table and even if he sucked at acting, which he doesn't he would always get a job somewhere on something straight to dvd because of who his dad is
@@nifemi_o Chets mom is rita wilson, you have it backwards. Chet grew up with his parents rita and tom. Chet is like over a decade younger than his brother. Colin grew up with tom's first wife.
He reminds me of when 25 year olds think they have it all figured out and explain things to real grown ups who are polite enough to let them think they are being insightful. Seems like a nice guy and all, but so many tone-def statements that it became distracting lol.
I've seen him in so many movies and never recalled his name, and just now, after years of ambiguity, I just realized he is related to Tom Hanks. Weird.
Struggle is very relative between people in developed countries. Almost everyone thinks the pain they are feeling is the most pain you can feel. I could easily see how living forever in the shadow of your dad would be more fucked than simply not making it in a career and having to switch to something else. Pretty superficial analysis imo
I was really just waiting for Conan to be like, "So how did it feel knowing that you always had an in?" No offense, I'm a fan of Colin Hanks; it's just that it's a legitimate question
You could say the same thing for many careers. So what if a kid benefits from his parents career. By your logic a wealthy parent should send their kid to the poorest school. If he benfited as a actor from being Tom Hanks, who cares. He didn't use it for negative things like drug addiction, crime etc. Most likely he will allow his kids to benefit from what he gained. That's how it works. You take from your famiy and you give to your family.
This man is a good actor. Like dad. In some ways better. Still --how hard is that choice? I believe he is a good man. However, born in to a family with mega bucks and Dad the top actor in all of Hollywood--I have zero empathy for a spoiled rich child that could do whatever he wished. Colin probably made the right choice. Nepotism is powerful but unacknowledged.
I'm struggling decades before in front and behind the scenes , I'm sure his daddy and daddy's s friends didn't help him ! I can't talk to an agent , cast director , manager ! I'm sure all doors for him were never locked and closed 🔐🔐🔒 like they are for me ! Bastards !
Nah, he's a talented dude, maybe not at the same level as his dad, but that's like Paul McCartney's son being compared to his dad from The Beatles...not particularly fair.
