After all these years, I finally learned the history behind this song! Great to see retro Late Nite show!

This is a REALLY awesome interview with one of my favourite singers. Nice to see him so animated! And Dave was really cool with him too. It's been so long since I heard Colin's Aussie accent! Thanks for posting!

1987, the year when roping in some african backing singers going 'babbly boo mbeze mbasa, babbly boo mbeze mbaasssaaaaaaa' was all the rage

They are from Jamaica. Men at Work was a reggae rock band.

@Ray Beaulieu he ripped off the whole concept for that album from a lady friend composer

From Paul Simon to Elvis Costello it surely was all the rage back then, with varying degrees of artistic merit.

This album needs to be remastered

@Jerry Gaither The album sold very poorly, so it's highly unlikely that Columbia would ever remaster it. In fact, it sold so poorly that Columbia later demanded that Hay return the hefty advance that they gave to him prior to the album's release.

Weird that he had such a strong Aussie accent back then. Now he's fully Scottish again, haha.

@TinOwl I've suspected for some time now that his Scottish accent is contrived, because he left Scotland when he was a young lad and he has never returned to live there since. None of his friends or associates is Scottish either, and he has lived in Santa Monica for quite a number of years now, so in all honesty his accent should sound like a Los Angeles citizen by now.

@@shirleypena4133 He left Scotland when he was fourteen. His Scottish accent is not contrived. It is not uncommon for people to be bí accented. Listen to John Barrowman interviews and his accent change dependent on who is interviewing him

I've found that people with good musical ear tend to pick up accents very easily. I don't think the switch between Australian and Scottish accent is so weird nor is it something he willingly does.

In a Craig Ferguson interview (which you can find on RU-vid) he says he put on the Aussie accent to avoid getting beat up when he still lived there but the Scottish accent took over when he moved to Topanga.

This, frankly, is sad. He is trying to find a place as a solo in the "world music" element. But it does not fit. We're talking the heights of Peter Gabriel. This does not work. Thank God he decided to become real. His later solo work is so great. Waiting for my real life to begin.
