Hell of a writer and singer/musician. In the last three years I've fought cancer and lost my mom and dad. Turning 60 in November.... this song hits me in the ❤️.
This song means a lot to me.- As we get older this kind of message begins to make a lot more sense. We (as any young person) used to feel there's no end to being young and having all doors open in front of you and waiting for yourself to make your move. Well, it has taken me a painfully long time to make some moves and it was only me who was keeping me from taking that next step.-
Always loved the music from Colin. For me, what makes this so interesting is that Colin wrote the song about what he mentioned in the intro: He was waiting for his 2nd rise to stardom. As Kami indicated, the message takes on different and more meaningful significance the older we get. For me, the lyrics hit home as I wait for my wife to beat cancer. We are waiting for our real (second, cancer free) life to begin. Bravo Colin. PS- I watch you for your excellent and subtle guitar playing and techniques.
I saw him in a very small venue in Baltimore years ago. Looked very much like this. He spoke directly to me and much of the small audience like we’d known each other for years. I’ll never forget it. What a wonderful human being to put his feelings on display for all the world to understand.
Glad the universe sent you a message. 63 years old. Enjoy every minute you can. It's all too short. Experiences of depression, sad times come and go along with the good. No one has it figured out. Just hang in with the rest of us survivors as long as you can! ❤
Hey. Just came across this while dicking around the 'tube'. Thanks for sticking around. I am glad you are still here, cause Colin still tours and his shows are great. But stay. Just stay. Don't go sooner than you need to. Rock On!
I saw Colin in concert on April 11th of this year in Northampton, MA. When he sang this song, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Such an amazing talent!
It’s amazing to see so many comments about how Colin’s music has helped so many people through dark times. I’m one, too. From all of us you will never meet, thank you.
Absolutely love this song. I went to see the Barenaked Ladies in Glasgow last year and noticed Colin was playing support. I knew he sang with Men at Work and thought it might be worth getting in early to check him out. Well, his set was the highlight of the night for me. Looking forward to seeing him again.
Ahh the BNL were brilliant as usual. Great energy, great music and lots of humour. Always leave their gigs feeling like I had a great time and got my money's worth. They do really well as a 4 piece I think. It's just not quite the same tho.
Got to meet the BNL crew at Daytona Spring Break in 91 or 92. Had just played Twister with the hawaiian tropic girls for Much Music and ran into them on the way out. AWESOME GUYS! One of my roomates was Canadien and a big fan so we were listening to them a lot then. Super cool experience!
My Sister Send me this song to me when i was in a very dark place in my life. She Realy Nailed it ,pffff .There is no one who knowes me as well as she does
I remember finishing army basic in mid September 2001, going to the PX and buying a portable CD player and the “new” Ben Folds album. That was a sacred time in my transition from being a boy to becoming a man. Thanks for the memory!
Best version for me 👍🏽 The intro, this particular version of the song with the higher backup vocals kicking in, the audience and live atmosphere. Mmmmmmmm 🤤 Edit: Forgot to mention - I love the smile he does during the solo 😁
Colin Hay is an incredible artist because he writes songs that everyone can connect to. Not everyone was apart of a world famous band that fell apart, but everyone no matter what is always waiting for that next chapter of their life where things get better.
You sound like the nitwits that complained and whined about Dylan going electric. You're not a folkie are you ? Acoustic is how you play when there's no power available..
God Colin! You inspire so many people with your beautiful simplicity that I hope you live on forever because you have always been at the top of my "lofty peeks of super-stardom" playlist.
Such a beautiful and heartfelt song. Reading the comments, you can see how this song (like so many of other Colin's songs) touches so many people. "Waiting" helped me through a difficult time too, although looking back, I realize that my real life had already begun, I just didn't know it then. Thank you, Colin Hay.
I havent been waiting for new life to begin at all..I been waiting for the smallest opportunity to be gone before they notice. But Fleeing a life with toxic people isnt the answer if you dont have a sound destination in mind..
Had the distinct pleasure of hearing him perform this live in Pittsburgh, PA. (Of course, I knew Hay from Men at Work) Had never heard this song before but was immediately captivated by it, and bought the cd chiefly for this song but was introduced to the real brillance of the man. Thank you for sharing that night.
This song means everything to me, I crank it up on my way to chemotherapy it inspires me to keep fighting. I’m 70 and have followed him since Men @Work. He is one the great voices of my time on this earth.
@@davidrivers2385Stay strong believe in yourself life is worth the fight, you can “ Slay the dragon’” I had a quadruple bypass myself at around your age, and now cancer for the second time after beating it once believe and you’ll pull through it.
I heard this song at pandora at first and wondered who could write this candid lyrics and I see a very humble man who loves what he does. I'm also waiting nowadays and if it begins in next one or two years I'll be back here and leave another comment. Lots of love from Turkey
Ok. I had no idea he was still doing music. I remember Men at Work from the 80s. I still have the vinyl record. I heard this song today and immediately loved it. I thought it was Peter Gabriel, Or maybe Marillion, or even Blue October. What a fine surprise! Cool. Xoxoxo
Lyrics Any minute now, my ship is coming in I'll keep checking the horizon I'll stand on the bow Feel the waves come crashing Come crashing down down down, on me And you say, be still my love Open up your heart Let the light shine in But don't you understand I already have a plan I'm waiting for my real life to begin When I awoke today, suddenly nothing happened But in my dreams, I slew the dragon And down this beaten path, up this cobbled lane I'm walking in my old footsteps, once again And you say, just be here now Forget about the past, your mask is wearing thin Just let me throw one more dice I know that I can win I'm waiting for my real life to begin Any minute now, my ship is coming in I'll keep checking the horizon And I'll check my machine, there's sure to be that call It's gonna happen soon, soon, oh so very soon It's just that times are lean And you say, be still my love Open up your heart, let the light shine Don't you understand I already have a plan I'm waiting for my real life to begin On a clear day I can see, see for a long way On a clear day I can see, see for a long way.
Any minute now, my ship is coming in I'll keep checking the horizon I'll stand on the bow, feel the waves come crashing Come crashing down, down, down, on me And you say, be still my love Open up your heart Let the light shine in But don't you understand I already have a plan I'm waiting for my real life to begin When I awoke today, suddenly nothing happened But in my dreams, I slew the dragon And down this beaten path, and up this cobbled lane I'm walking in my old footsteps, once again And you say, just be here now Forget about the past, your mask is wearing thin Let me throw one more dice I know that I can win I'm waiting for my real life to begin Any minute now, my ship is coming in I'll keep checking the horizon And I'll check my machine, there's sure to be that call It's gonna happen soon, soon, soon It's just that times are lean And you say, be still my love Open up your heart, let the light shine in Don't you understand I already have a plan I'm waiting for my real life to begin
They won't ever feel pain or anger or sadness. They will rest. They are at peace. Remember the happy times. Remember the goodness they put into your life and into the world.
one of the most under-rated songwriters of our time.a truly moving song like so much of his other work.just wish he could get the recognition he deserves.this video is from his live at the corner dvd which is an absolutely brilliant show by colin at his very best.highly recommended.
I was a kid in the days of Men at Work, and seldom wondered what became of Colin Hay, but it is so AWESOME to hear his later music, and be able to appreciate his positive energy on stage. Sing on, Colin. I am catching up.
If Colin had never been dropped and forgotten, he never would have felt the pain that gave birth to this beautiful, beautiful song. Life is a journey, friends.
I saw Colin open a show at Red Rocks 2 years ago. People around me were talking and carrying on not paying attention, and I was like "STFU PEOPLE! Do you not hear the greatness going into your ears right now!!"
To quote Les McQueen, from league of gentleman: "It's a sh*t business, you'll see". Clearly very true if the likes of Colin Hay can be dropped from record labels and Justin Bieber's face is plastered all over the media for a decade. These record labels don't deserve to be in business and I'm glad I don't give them my money.
Just had the pleasure of Colin Hays company in Komedia Brighton November 2013. What a lovely honest self effacing chap !!....Who plays guitar effortlessly and sings so well. Like all acoustic guitarists with real talent he deserves perhaps more coverage than he gets because his songs are really that good. I take my hat off to you sir
@@nickbonzer I can't wait, Thanks for all your support. I feel overwhelmed and honor.. It's a great privilege, Have you ever received an autograph from me before ? Stay Safe!
Mad, that those bastards that throw away all of these talented artists but grateful that they keep on creating and that we still have opportunities to see and hear them.
I remember a programme called Judging Amy was on my TV in the background many years ago and I heard this track playing. I stopped in my tracks as I couldn't believe the words. It was as if they were meant for me. I was feeling very low at that time with life. I felt everything was not going well. I started listening to this song at night and I found it so comforting and healing. I used to tell myself that my ship was coming in soon. It was on the horizon etc etc and all would be alright Overkill and many other songs helped me get through this not nice period. Been listening tonight to this great music. Thanks so much Colin Hay 😍
Just recently joined the crowd . I am really enjoying his later stuff. I’m soon to be 62 ,so maw came out at my time. Colin a lot of your music will be on my playlist at the lake. Salute!
Such a beautiful beautiful song! In this day and age when there is so much meaningless trash on the radio being endlessly thrown at us a true genius like this is true salvation
Wow... how I hadn't heard about Colin Hay before I don't know! Such a honest and powerful song that goes straight to your heart... awesome band too, beautiful music!!! ❤🧡
My brother- who made his go at show business- shared with me that this song touched him and made him relate to the always present let-downs. He died too young and I played this at his graveside. Powerful song. REAL soul and REAL talent there by Colin Hay.
I'm here again to say this is the best bloody version. THANK YOU (again!) for sharing. I come back to it time and time again. Much love to all you beautiful people sharing this with me ❤
