Thank you for this conversation. I love Prof. Bendell & appreciate his book. I am wishing you all the best in the days ahead. I just want to point out the beautiful carvings on the bench. I am thankful to the artists of the world who labor in love.

Commenting for reach! I'm listening to the audiobook and am into Chapter 12 as of writing this. It'll definitely take a couple of listens and space + time to process it all, but I deeply appreciate your sacrifice in researching, synthesizing the info, and putting forth this work. Thank you, too, for continuing to make and release content around it. It's so so important.

Wish he had narrated the book himself the narrateur sounds like a bot

Listened to Jem’s book and have listened to several chapters again. Although it was hard to get through the first half, the second half has given me a certain sense of peace and courage to do my own thing. A thousand thanks Jem for all the time and effort you put into Breaking Together. 👍🏼😎💚

I cannot see how your farming project has much of a future when the wet bulb temperatures there will soon make working outside for reasonable periods of time - lethal.

Not at 700 metres altitude. The various Western expert views on the future of the tropics tend to ignore we have mountains. Every 100 metres higher is 1C cooler.

Truthfully, nothing has much of a future on our planet now. Which is why living in the here and now, doing what we can for as long as we can, has replaced any long term planning.

I feel that current agriculture methods in the future will not be sustainable or flexible enough to fit changing climate conditions. I live in a dry arid area but which gets lots of mountain snow runoff. I’ve switched to hydroponic gardening because I can control the water nutrients, temperature, and light. This method doesn’t impact soil with industrial chemicals, spares ponds and lakes from runoff, and the plants grow much quicker. If there is radiation in the air/water, my indoor setup is somewhat protected. I think industry is getting better at hydroponics at scale - hoping this will take off and save the planet from the tons of chemicals added to the environment by industrial farming.

I'm sure this is great, but I didn't get much beyond the start because of the audio.

You can't prove a negative, namely that magical, technological solutions are NOT right around the corner. That is part of our dilemma. Hopium persists.

What continued harm to the planet ( the core cause of our climate problems) is done in chasing that elusive unicorn, tho? Boondoggles like carbon capture or carbon offsets use a lot of resources, and money that could be better spent on helping to adapt to and mitigate the worst of what's headed our way in a collapsing world.

When survival is possible and material ambitions are not, you can't convince people that life and survival are enough. So even if you could prove the negative, you won't have many accept the proof.

Fortunately life and survival are enough and many are opening their eyes and hearts to that truth

There will be life, but nothing we can visibly see will survive a perpetual grid down with 8 billion hungry idiots who are used to dancing for their dinner. It will be like the cyanobacteria extinction where the waste of the overpopulated kills the overpopulated by terraforming the ecosystem it needs to survive. What comes after will remove every trace that we monkeys ever existed.

25% Indonesian. Not enough, but invisibilising doesn't help. I was delighted that the biggest applause in my main speech (not this one) was from young Indonesians.

The social-political-cultural-historical structure of High Industrialized Countries 'makes it abundantly clear' that there is no way beside infinite growth - the suicidal path. I'm born in the 60s. Got it in the late 80s. Guy Mc got there much later. Like all scientists who have to laboriously add up symptoms. Today he accuses them of lying - rightly so. He's been just as stupid for long enough. By the way, I like the man. I can't always say the same about his followers... @@roberthornack1692
