I was 6yrs old in 1974 when Tom Baker joined doctor who, so this is my era that I am still obsessed with. I still have the Denys Fisher figures, sadly all unboxed except the TARDIS. Great video. My favourite yet x

Growing up in the late 80’s/early 90’s, I was able to catch reruns of the Tom Baker era thanks to PBS and that was my introduction to Doctor Who. As I grew up, I found other Doctors and the movies. And when BBC started the new era, I was ecstatic and I loved Eccelston, Tenant, Smith and Capaldi, and even absolutely loved Michelle Gomez as the Master. But Tom Baker has been and will always be my Doctor.

One of the 4th doctor quotes that has always stuck with me, "you know, the very powerful and the very foolish have one thing in common, they don't alter their world view to suit the facts, they alter the facts to suit their world view. Which can be very uncomfortable if you're one such fact that needs altering" . Also "why is a mouse where it spins? Never did quite know the answer to that"

The Bif Bang Pow line was my dream range, not only because of the Mego connection but because the president is my pod cast partner. I even had a little input on it.

Tom Baker's first season of Doctor Who is, in my opinion, the best season. Not only did it introduce the most iconic Doctor of the classic era but it went on to reinvent some of the long standing concepts and characters of the show. The Ark in Space is a great story that mixes the futuristic science fiction element of the show with the horrific monsters that the show would be famous for going forward. Genesis of the Daleks provides an excellent origin story for the Daleks, introducing us to their creator Davros and really driving home the inspiration that writer Terry Nation took from the Nazis and the horrors of nuclear war. Robot served as a great introduction to the 4th Doctor with the security of a familiar UNIT based story to remind us that this was still the same show that Pertwee left.

Tony, Tony, Tony! You've forgotten that Action Man himself appears in Doctor Who at least twice, thanks to the machinations of evil renegade Time Lord, the Master. Dating back to 1971, the Master's signature weapon was a device known as the Tissue Compression Eliminator (though it wasn't named as such until the 80s).This black rod-like weapon would not only kill people, but shrink their corpses down to doll size. During the Jon Pertwee years, this was usually achieved via chromakey. But when the Master returned in The Deadly Assassin as a corpse-like ghoul, having exhausted his regenerations (a truly excellent adventure for the 4th Doctor), the effect is achieved by using an Action Man, dressed in a miniature version of a Gallifreyan Guard's uniform. They used this technique again towards the end of the 4th Doctor's run, when he again crosses swords with the Master in his final adventure, Logopolis.

The best K-9 action figure I came across was sold in a small box and available from the newsagents Smiths. It's exactly the small mould as the carded ones but is battery operated and has a nice clean paint scheme rather than the weathered rusty look most K-9s have.

Due to recent changes with the current Doctor Who tv series, excitement for all things WHO is high once again and the Character Options action figures from the B&M Stores, are a must have. The new Creation Of The Daleks Genesis Davros set features vintage versions of classic WHO characters/monsters, that will make great additions to everyone's Doctor Who collections.

Tom Baker was my first and still favorite of them all. Dr. Who ran here in the Mississippi on what was then M E.T . Mississippi Educational Television. Aka PBS. I was HOOKED from the first episode. And was upset when he was replaced. My lack of knowledge of the characters history was limited only to what I could understand at such a young age from his run on the series. Not believing they could kill him off and replace him with some blonde guy was more than my six your old self could understand.

I sold all my childhood Doctor Who stuff apart from a Denys Fisher Tom Baker which I have owned for 30 years.. I have a pretty decent Doctor Who collection. I didn't become a fan until 2013, and my first real time episode was the 50th Anniversary. Still, by the time that aired, I had a good number of figures, 2 TARDIS? TARDISs? TARDI?, and the 9th/10th Doctor TARDIS Interior playset. I have more now, including 6 TARDIS sets and some older Doctors as well. My goal is to have at least each Doctor, their corresponding TARDIS, and a Dalek from each respective era. Personally, I feel like the 5th Doctor's TARDIS goes good with Tom Baker... for now.

Doctor Who is such an expansive series and has some much merchandise that it is impossible to "buy it all." My wife has focused on Sarah Jane figures and the versions of the characters from the episodes in which she is depicted. It's a small set, but it has Daleks, Doctors and K-9 so far. For me, it's Doctor Who paper models. I have a Tardis I reviewed on my channel and a couple of recent series kits in the works. I almost bought that book you showed in your video, but someone got to the eBay "buy it now" before I could get to it.

Unfortunately, it isn't only the out-of-production sets that are woefully hiked in price. New releases often get the same treatment, due to scalpers and the fact that availability is limited to mainly one chain store here in the UK. If, like me, you don't have one of those stores nearby, you've often very little chance of getting sets like Daleks or a Tardis. I recently came to the sad realisation that I'm never going to have a complete set of the range now, as I won't pay the sort of prices being asked on Ebay and suchlike. And so, my Who collection is slowly being packed into boxes in the loft, replaced with my Classic Star Trek Playmates line, and my Marvel Legends...

I never had the urge to collect the toys (they never existed here) but damn these figures look tempting. It's a shame the prices are so high. I guess I'll just stick to my police box I picked up at some random comic shop and dr scarf that used to wear in the winter until it got to scruffy. 😂. We do share the same fav dr though. Dr Who use to air where i am in the U.S. on the Public Broadcast System "PBS" back in the early 80s when i was somewhere around 10-13, i had NO IDEA what in the hell was going on. because they did NOT air it in order and it came on very late at night and i could rarely manage to stay awake that late, so i would watch an episode then the next episode i would see there was a completely different person playing the Doctor which thoroughly confused me , ad to that i had no idea about the basic plot of the entire show and never knew what they were doing in any random episode i saw anyway it just seemed like they were always being chased and running from some creature or other. and it wasnt until the 2000s and the more modern eras of the show that i ever actually knew what the overlying plot of Dr Who is, ive still never gotten around to watching it even though one of my best friends loves it and goes on all the time about. that said i am a strictly 3 3/4" collector and have been collecting since i graduated in 1990 and i have had a decent collection of Dapol Who figures for YEARS, they are not amazing but i never thought they were ugly :(
