After begin inspired by @jaidenanimations ranking her Pokemon dolls, I thought I'd give it a #doctorwho spin and rank my collection of Character Options Doctor Who figures! The Doctorwhoguy - 2023
The balls it took to upload this during the coronation 😂 great ranking! (Disagree with some of them but I’m a Doctor Who fan so somethings always gonna bother me.) and I would love to see the dvd ranking!
Set this up a couple weeks back, completely forgot about the Coronation (not that I watched/cared about it myself). And yes, us Doctor Who fans will never agree on NOTHING! XD
Great fun video, Jack. Your delivery and humour are great and remind me very much of my eldest son. As you can guess I am a fan (or enthusiast as Mark Gattis would have said on Doctor Who night) from the classic era and have collected almost all of these figures over the past 20 years (20 years! - where did that wibbly-wobbly stuff go?). We have been so lucky that a company like Character (and Underground Toys) decided to take the franchise and be the first ones to run properly with it after almost 40 years.
Glad you enjoyed it! (And perhaps I am your eldest son in DISGUISE!?) Always loved the Character figures, my childhood was a lot better with them in it!
Poor Eternal, ik the boy was never given a proper role, but hey I like the mini-mystery surrounding him, it would be more underwhelming if they revealed he just does Davros' taxes
Get ready for a long comment Jack. 4th Doctor box: F. Just the 80's box and not at all accurate to the Brachaki Mark 3. 9/10 Box: S Definatly one of the most accurate and visually stunning pieces CO have ever made, The lights set it off. 11 Box: B It's ok. Wish they released one with lights. 9/10 console: S. Do i need to say why? 11 console: A. wish it lit up. Lift: F Could've spent the money on making a Dalek Emperor. Pandorica: F I listened to one of the discs when i first bought it (Yes i am that old) And it's just a woman narrating the events of the episodes. Why not put big finish in there? DIOE Daleks: B Vastly inferior to the original releases of these figures in 2009 & 2012. They look cheaper somehow, which is to be expected from the B&M range 💀 R/C Bronze Dalek EASY F If you have the crucible Progenitor or SFX Dalek you will know how hideously out of proportion these OG Daleks are. The plunger is too small and the eyestalk too long. And the bronze is far too pale. Dalek Thay: B Still not accurate but an improvement. This was one of the first figures in my collection and i called him B Bum as a kid because there is a distinctive B on his arse. Dalek Sec: B For what it's worth, it got the job done when i was a kid. It looks nice enough but still inferior to the 2008 sculpt. Dalek Supreme: S Gorgeous. this figure uses the accurate dimensions and is a beautiful figure of a beautiful Dalek. Davros: S Beautiful detail all over, though it would've been cool to have a swapable jacket piece with the ribcage. like the Bracewell figure All 5 Paradigm: A Very accurate to what the props are like, though having made a custom Adventure games paradigm with the slimmer proportions it kind of puts the TV props to shame. Drashig: Drashig Drashig, Drashig Drashig, Drashig! Omega: S Gorgeous work with the Fabric. and the sculpting of the helmet too. Master Deadly Assassin: B Decent likeness to what's on screen. I do prefer the Decayed Master from season 18 though. 8th Doctor: F So funnily enough, When you said it's a good likeness to Mcgann, Paul disagrees, he says it looks nothing like him, and i agree, the NOTD Scuplt is much closer. Also the figure odes have one leg shorter than the other so...💀💀💀 K-9: A I feel like the opening panel was a given with a figure with no other articulation. It's decent. Martha: A Again, decent. Does what it says on the tin. No accessories though. Cyber Controller: B While i do love the brain, i don't like the eyes, they have these little black pupils that give off a sort of comedic look. Ood: F The paint apps on the head are atrocious, and the head itself is too big. Like the Daleks, it is improved with the 2008 sculpt. Werewolf: A A true testament to CO's ambition and productivity back in the golden age. You wouldn't see something like this today. 12th Doctor: B He is a bit tall but i am thankful they tried again at sculpting Capaldi, that series 8 Sculpt was God awful. 2nd Doctor: So upon customizing, i have discovered that there are two types of 2nd Doctors, both with completely Arse sculpts. The original Arse made the legs spread out too far so for the 11 Doctors set they must've changed it. Cyberman with Chest Damage: B character were given a large budget for the series 6 figures and boy did they not know what to use it on. Just goes to show how little there is from series 6 to make into figure form. The detail is nice but at the end of the day it's another Cyberman and it's from the James Corden story 💀💀💀 Rose: B The likeness is better than series 1 rose, but what you may not know is that there was a prototype with articulated arms seen in one of the toy adverts. Can't think why they didn't go through with it though. Osiran service robot: B While it's a good likeness to what's on screen the figure is a little bit boring. with just the grey and little bit of red. 6th Doctor: F I do disagree on you with the likeness, it does look like Colin, i'm working on a larger haired Custom from season 23, and it does improve him. The Body however is appalling, he's too short and looks like he's been hit by a bus. S5 11th Doctor: S too nostalgic for me to diss. Loved the Blue shirt Toys R us variant. 9th Doctor: S Beautiful likeness, beautiful skin tone, beautiful eye detail, wish you'd kept him in better condition though. River Song: F Maybe i'm biased for not Liking River much but this figure kinda sucks. The skin tone is too dark and her hair looks like it's made up of a load of little Dog poos. Cybus Cyberman: S Out of all the figures character none have resonated with me as much as this one. So accurate to the Cybermen on screen. Beautiful. Amy 1 & 2: A As and adventure games lover, having her in her Victory look is great! And the stripper one just kind of exists too...I guess... Old 10th: B While it's not very good for anyhting, it's still well sculpted and works for what it is. Raggedy 11th Doctor: Again nostalgia gets the better of me, used to recreate the scene where he's hanging out of the Tardis, that was the funest thing to do with that figure. Slitheen: B Don't like the constant snarl, prefer the neutral face. also, Nice arse. 1st Doctor: S it's uncanny how good the likeness is to Hartnell, they they really did him justice! Space suit 10th Doctor: B Good, yeah good. Very Orange... Zygon: B Looks very good too what's on screen, he does look really really sad though. 5th Doctor: A Very good figure. Does what it says on the tin. 3rd Doctor: B Prefer the other Jon Pertwee head sculpt as seen in the death to the Daleks set. And yes, he always wore those boots he just tucked his trousers over them sometimes. Simm Master: F Almost looks like John Simm but his face is just too damn long. Not as round as Capaldi would say. Also his hands are HUGE. Bracewell: A Very good example of taking a side character and making him fun for kids to play with. Regen 4th Doctor: F It's hideous. He looks like he's wearing makeup and he's got these weird orange sideburns. VOC Robot: S Gorgeous! Everything you want in a figure! Also it came with a sticker sheet but was probably thrown away with the box by little Jack. I know this because i did the same. 💀💀💀 Restac: F Too flimsy and spindly. Granny Conolly: 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 4th Doctor: B Amazing sculpting with the coat, but like the Zygon, he just looks really sad. McCoy: A would've bumped this up to S if not for the fact they gave us the hatted head with the stupid grin. Stetson 11: F a HORRIBLE Likeness to Matt, and the hat looks stupid. Spearhead Auton: A Beautiful figure but let down by the Capt Jack limb reuse. Rory: F Looks nothing like Arthur Darvil and reuses a body from Primeval. Slackers. Coated 10th Doctor: B As somebody who owns the articulated 10th Doctor prototype from China, this figure pales in comparison. Angel Bob: B Way too short. And that goes for all the Angels. Destroyed Angel: S such a creepy looking figure! the paint apps really sell the idea of an aged ancient Angel and the cracked scuplt is stunning! Silence: B The sculpts are nice with good articulation. The screaming one's mouth does kinda look like a V****a Though. Tuxedo 10th Doctor: A Looks not alot like tennant but the body is a step up. the arms are used on the China prototype too. Prisoner Zero: B Not much you can do with him. But looks good. Smiler: F Horrible figure. Horribly designed monster in general. Idris: A Very well sculpted clothing but the face is a bit meh. I did use the head for a Tegan custom though. Projected Angel: F time has not been on this guy's side. Just completely yellow.
1987 "I'm a Doctor Who fan!" Response "Dear god! why!!!!" 2009 "I'm a Doctor Who fan!" Response "Cool, so am I!" 2022 "I'm a Doctor Who fan!" Response "Dear god! why!!!!" 2024 "I'm a Doctor Who fan!" Response... ?
I never saw much of a different with the light and sound aspects, but personally I'll always prefer the 11/12 box in design. But hey, opinions be different :D
