This is an in-depth lecture on collecting antique Knives. A long video but actually a short college course. So much info! A lot of people pressure me about "What are the prices?" So OK, I asked. That was impressive. Much thanks to Mike who demonstrated a lot of wonderful knives as well as his in-depth knowledge about them.

After watching this video 2 weeks ago I bought the 13" stelleto that he showed at the 11 min. mark with the aged horn handle. What a pretty knife with an overall awesome, menacing look and feel.

Great! Mike has some of the best knives. And is a real authority on the history of them.

Definitely a rich man's (or womans) hobby but what beautiful knives. I don't imagine there's alot of people collecting these though. I'm content with the Chinese and Taiwanese copies. If I hurt one of them, it wouldn't make me sick like one of these would lol

For me it is more about the mechanism than the history so I like to collect the cheap knock off automatics and watch how they work. But I like to look at these collections that people are passionate about. Very interesting.

Question: Some of these switchblades have a loose swivel bolster and are to the point of breaking. What type of glue would i have to use to place the bolsters back together??
@leroiprice1586
@leroiprice1586 7 месяцев назад
Take it to a knifemaker for repair as the bolster is not glued on.
@harimau1115
@harimau1115 7 месяцев назад
@@leroiprice1586 even if it's a swivel bolster?
@leroiprice1586
@leroiprice1586 7 месяцев назад
A knifemaker will likely need to disassemble the knife. Meaning remove the pivot pin, replace that with a new one, and then peen the swivel bolster back on tight.

I had a very old switchblade, from Solingen made by Gutman Cutlery, Very strong spring, which broke. I copied the knife and made one, sold the original to a collector.

Yeah for me one of the fun things about collecting a switchblade would be to fire it now and then. They are often made rugged but metal fatigue is always an issue. Glade to hear you turned a bad situation around a bit.

@@leroiprice1586 Thank you. It was a long long process, about 5 years. work on it a bit, put it up, repeat. I am proud of it.

What with the abundance of American custom knife makers pretty much making variations of the same thing you'd think there would be more guys like Panak (Burn) and especially Havelin making high end custom Italian stilettos, frosolones and priolettos.

Wow i especially love the ones with 2 blades stupid question do both blades come out at the same time?? Or one then the other? Also is it possible for both to come out simultaneously??

Imagine some punk hoodlum waking in to a pawn shop in the 1950s and buyin an Italian made switchblade for a few bucks not having a clue that it'd one day be worth several thousand dollars!

They say that age, and likely handling the knife, causes the horn handles to to a deeper yellow that is felt to add value.

I just took a tour of Ireland, nice place BTW, and was looking for knife stores and they scare. Got to look in one or two antique shops but they didn't have folding knives. I wonder where all the edged weapons from 300 years ago are?
@jonathancullen7190
@jonathancullen7190 Год назад
@leroiprice1586 Yes our knife laws are strict there is not a lot unless you just want a bog standard folding knife or work knife switch blades are banned although I managed to order an Italian steltto on line and it arrived safely to me I would love to buy some of these knifes from you but would thay get through customs. Ps thank you man yes its a beautiful country I must say 😃

Hey @plk5520 or whoever I can communicate with. I have questions about a stiletto I have. I don't know much of it other than all it says on it is made in italy at bottom of blade. Is there a way I can send you pictures directly and pick your brain? Thank you much

It gets me when someone is selling a old knife and says, never been used! My ass! You know. You can sand and polish and even restore the original finish to the blade. And it will look like new again! But, that is a big difference to me!! But, not to the one selling it! To them, it means never been used! LoL!
