If Miranda Sings is based off of a disabled family member, that is horrible. Because it is NOT spreading awareness, its poking fun. The character is: selfish, rude, and abusive. Just let that sit in

It’s funny cause the way I remember it….she first posted videos without all the wild makeup of just singing or dancing and it was funny. Yeah it probably was making fun of autistic people but I’m autistic and I found it funny. But had she just kept it at that…adults would watch her. Maybe kids too..which in that case would be fine. I just don’t know what makes one wanna be a weirdo in front of kids. I actually am bothered when kids acknowledge me because I don’t actually understand how to interact with kids as an adult. Alex, I hate to break it to you but these bits she did weren’t just for the Netflix show.. the Netflix show is a recreation of what ALL of her live shows were like. Kids would specifically plan ahead to wear outfits for them so she would pick them to come up on stage. You mentioned that but it wasn’t just for the Netflix show :,)
This is what I don’t understand, why was this seen as ok for so long. Parents would take their kids to the shows so they would see what happened in them. But it’s only now that people are coming out and saying that it was inappropriate. She’s been doing live shows for like 15 yrs and the longer she did this weird content, the more ok she thought it was bc she didn’t get any major backlash for it for so long.

I'm sure things have got past me. I try my best. I've watched hours and hours of several RU-vidrs and tok tok "stars" my daughter was obsessed with when she was younger - even gone to live shows and paid for her to have meet n greets with DanTDM - Miranda Sings was successfully so fricking intolerable that I only saw a few snippets. The bits I saw just happened to be kid friendly but horrendously stupid. Fortunately my daughter only talked about her for about a week when everyone at school was talking about her (so she was cool for five minutes,) and she'd moved on the next week. Someone being unbearable isn't a good enough excuse for me not to have been more aware of her overall content, but these people know that parents are busy and tired and working hard and they slide right in at the right moment - someone having a bloody irritating voice was enough for me to leave the room and start cooking tea. Again, not an excuse, parenting fail, but there it is
@@heatherweeks1487 nobody can be 100% all of the time, I’m more so talking about the parents who have absolutely no idea what their children are doing on the internet. No monitoring whatsoever. Pacifying then with an iPad..the parents who take their kids to a full on “comedy” show for a lady who’s content they haven’t previewed. We can only hope this kind of thing will be a wake up call.

She was able to get away with it because of the disparity between her persons/reputation and her behind the scenes actions. She had a very solid reputation for being wholesome, unproblematic, safe. Being a woman with a goofy-as-hell alter ego didn’t hurt. So when the accusations started, simply put, no one could believe. I didn’t take it seriously myself until the receipts became public. And yes, I’m ashamed of that.

I think it’s a psychological phenomenon where they think that many other parents are okay with it, so it must be harmless… that apples to many things that we think aren’t okay now, that society deemed okay sometime in the past

She had Jojo Siwa on a show with her so I didn't think anything of it till her "haters back off" series came out and dont think we made it past the beginning. After that I noticed everything to be too weird and never allowed her to watch again. Even though my daughter was too young to understand the content it was too creepy for even me.

There's a lot of inappropriate content out there. I've overheard some inappropriate things being said from different creators on youtube that my daughter was watching. I'm glad this is being exposed. She's not the only creator out there who does it.

I never thought the Miranda Sings character was supposed to be aimed at children... I honestly don't think when Colleen started doing it with the thought that kids would be her audience. I always thought that that was made very clear by not only the incest jokes, but the fact the whole Miranda persona is/was making a mockery of how naive and innocent kids are, and just taking to another level with the weird sexual humor.... Miranda is supposed to mean, crude, ignorant, and just gross. I've met people like this in real life and they're not pleasant.... So when her audience became to be mostly made up of children, this is where Colleen went wrong... like she acknowledged over and over that Miranda was extremely inappropriate and that kids shouldn't be watching, but on the other hand completely leaned into it... The theory I've recently had rolling around in my head is.... it's almost as if she was "friends" with all of these kids to gather material, see what she could get away with saying and doing to these kids, and what their reactions would be or what kind of innocent responses she'd get from the kids, that she could then twist and make the innocent remarks into something nasty for Miranda to regurgitate.... Not only that, "Miranda" got away with everything, and being that Collen has said multiple times she uses Miranda to say what she's really thinking all the time... she got too comfortable, she figured she'd been doing it this long, why care what you do and say to minors... Idk it seems as if we're all seeing her true colors, that infact Miranda is the real her, and Colleen is the fake persona she puts on for the camera.... I think that's why she got away with everything for so long, as well as the pure fact that people usually imagine a predator of this caliber to be big greasy, hairy dude in his moms basement, grooming children online and luring them into his white van outside of schools... When really predators can be anyone... even dorky, relatable girl next door type...

I wouldn’t be comparing these two very horrible and traumatic events with each other. They’re both fucked up. When you compare things like this, you can very easily minimise people’s experiences. Just got to the part where you said she based Miranda off of a disabled family member… but I distinctly remember her saying at the beginning of her career that Miranda was based off of girls doing singing covers on RU-vid. As someone who loved watching said singing covers back in day, I remember thinking that it reminded me of absolutely none of them.

Man that is truly disgusting. I'm just so shocked at how a lot of this went under the radar for as long as it did. I remember being 10 or 11 in 5th class in school (Irish system), I'm 22 now, and one of the girls in my class dressing up as Miranda Sings for Halloween one year, that's how long she's been out of my memory for. What an awful way to remember her now hahah. But just shows you that her audience has always been kids and those who watched her then most likely don't watch her now, she's been at this for years and people somehow just never had an issue, or maybe some did but only very minor few. The fact that netflix show was 2019 as well, that was only 4 years ago, its not like the internet was blind to creepy and predatory figures such as Onision or Shane Dawson. I remember watching her vlogs when I was younger. I was never a fan of the Miranda Sings thing. I tried watching Haters Back Off, but it just made me feel weird and uncomfortable. I remember trying to like it because I wanted to watch something that was deemed “popular” or whatever. This makes me really disturbed seeing these live shows and it makes sense as to why her character made me so uncomfortable without even fully comprehending why. It disturbs me that Netflix and other platforms allowed this. It makes me feel yucky.

Here's the bigger question: WHY WEREN'T THERE ANY PARENTS WALKING OUT WITH THEIR CHILDREN? The fact that nobody was leaving with their kids is even more alarming. I personally never watched Miranda Sings growing up when she was in her prime like a decade ago because I always found something incredibly strange about her and now I understand why. I swear to God if I was 10 years old at that show with my parents, they would've taken me and left no hesitation after the first few minutes of the constant inappropriate "jokes". This just goes to show that she got away with this crap for so long due to the fact that so many people lacked morals. It's truly disturbing.
